With new owners with deep pockets who are committed to keeping the Bills in Buffalo, it seems really disingenuous for Goodell to be questioning the long-term viability/success of the Bills in Buffalo without a new stadium. At some point it would be great to have a new downtown stadium (easy for me to say not living in Buffalo), but Goodell is just coming across as pushing the narrow agenda of the greedy NFL owners who only care about maximizing league revenue. I don't like what happened with the Rams and what is happening with the Raiders possibly moving to Las Vegas. The NFL eventually will lose its base of support if it continues down this path.

Seantral AWOL since end of season (not really)
jahnyc replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is true that Crohn's can be difficult to diagnose, and at least the medical staff seems to have been in contact with Henderson and/or his doctors. Still does not explain the lack of contact from the coaching staff. Really seems like an awful thing he went through. I am impressed that he will be back so soon and wants to compete. Says a lot about the young man. I hope he will be able to play this year, but I wonder if he will need more time to fully recover from the surgeries. -
Seantral AWOL since end of season (not really)
jahnyc replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agent says the medical staff did not diagnose the medical condition. Also surprised that no one from the coaching staff reached out to him, particularly since it sounds like he went through a really rough time. Only now hearing from the agent, but none of this reflects well on the Bills coaching or medical staff. -
It's May 24, do you know where your right tackle is?

I think it is a bit early to be condemning Rex about this. I have a feeling there is more to this story about Henderson, but we will see. -

I think it would be hard for Whaley and Rex to survive if the record is 7-9 or worse this season. Just my opinion. -
Carucci thinks right side could be worse
jahnyc replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is now more video/info about the Bills offense (schemes, tendencies and players) after the first season with Roman as our offensive coordinator. Opposing defenses will be more prepared and looking to exploit weaknesses on the o-line and in Taylor's game. I expect the first thing they will try to do is shut down the running game. We will see how that goes. -
Carucci thinks right side could be worse

I assume opposing defenses will really go after the right side of our o-line this season. Having a mobile QB will help with this, but hopefully they will be adequate in pass protection so that Taylor does not get killed. -

I don't think the national media is looking to make up stories about the Bills. I think the stuff about the pressure on the front office and Rex has been reported by too many to be entirely inaccurate. -

Yes, it is true that none of us know what the Pegulas are thinking about the front office or Rex, but the reality is that there has been a lot of reporting from the local press and the national press about Whaley and Rex being under scrutiny. I doubt that all of these stories and reports are made up, and likely reflect in some fashion the thinking/thoughts of the Pegulas. -

Maybe this is a czar, maybe a consultant, not sure if there is much of a difference. This would not be for me and other fans who are not qualified to assess Whaley's time with the Bills. It would be for the new owners who have spent a lot money for a team that has not had success on the field in a very long time. I guess we will see if this season is different. I certainly hope that it is. -

What I really want is a performance review of the front office and personnel department (including scouts) by an independent senior football expert. Let this person make determinations about how the front office and personnel department are operating, assessments of recent drafts, signings and trades, and whether there is a blueprint for future success. There is such a disconnect between the perception of many fans on this board about how Whaley is performing versus what is reported in the local and national press about Whaley's job security and long-term future. I really would like to know what an experienced, well respected football person thinks about it all. -
John Clayton: Bills "Regressed" in the Offseason
jahnyc replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
BillsVet is right. The national media has been generally negative about the Bills over the last number years and they have been generally correct. The Bills front office and players need to prove them wrong at some point (hopefully). I hope that Lawson and Ragland are upgrades, but I am not sure it is realistic to count on them being upgrades in their rookie season, or that Washington will be a capable starter. -
Sorry to bring the Watkins trade into this, but we are drafting in need in part because of that trade. I know there are a lot of differing views on the actual trade, but losing a first round pick always hurts. In addition, the KuJo pick really hurt us. We really needed him to be a starting caliber RT. He isn't, and it will hurt us until we find one.

I think you missed my point about Gilmore, Glenn and Taylor. It was not about not having enough cap space to sign all of them. I get it that we have enough cap space to sign all of them, but that assumes that they will want to re-sign with the Bills, and there can be no assurance that this will be the case with one or all three, since each likely will be able to get the same money or more elsewhere. Three potential free agents at the end of next season, but we only can tag one of them.
-
A few thoughts below: 1. Is it now critical that we sign one or both of Gilmore and Glenn before the end of the 2016 season (preferably both before the season begins to get some cap flexibility before the season begins)? The Bills did not use picks at the top of the draft to address these positions and there do not seem to be any replacements for Gilmore and Glenn currently on the roster. If we do not re-sign Gilmore and/or Glenn, we will go into next offseason with Gilmore, Glenn and Taylor as free agents and the ability to use only one franchise tag, which could mean, in a worst case scenario, losing two out of the tree to free agency without adequate replacements on the roster. 2. I liked the first two pick in our draft. Both fill significant holes. Hard to assess the rest of the picks, but the results of this draft seem to indirectly suggest that the Bills will at least try to re-sign Taylor since Jones is a project and Manuel is not a starting caliber QB. 3. The Bills had a surprising number of holes going into this draft. You can argue that DE, WR, LB, RT and possibly RG needed a new starter or an upgrade. Being up against the cap has not allowed the Bills to fill some of these holes with starting caliber players. 4. At RG, Miller really needs to step it up. Mills and Henderson at RT do not inspire confidence. Unfortunate that we could not address the right side of the o-line in free agency or the draft in any meaningful way. 5. I like the drafting of Williams (Arkansas) at RB. With the injuries (concussions) that K. Williams had last year, I thought it was smart to draft a RB, particularly a player who was undervalued because of an injury during his senior year. 6. I like Ragland and think he will be an immediate and strong starter. Not sure about Lawson's ability to be an impact starter in his first year. Both should be strong additions over the long-term, but is it unfair and/or unrealistic to think that they will be better in their first year than the guys they are replacing (Bradham and M. Williams)? 7. Still seems kind of odd to me that going into last season, the Bills had a very strong defense that Rex was going to take to the next level. Fast forward to this season, and we need to spend out top picks in the draft to improve a poorly rated defense. 8. A bit worried about our WRs after Watkins. I do not think that Woods is an adequate #2 or slot receiver and we cannot count on Goodwin or the street free agents that we signed to be an upgrade. Our draft pick Listenbee is raw and it probably unrealistic to assume that he will make a significant contribution in his first year.

QB Lynch very high priority for Bills/Jets!!
jahnyc replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Lynch will go much earlier than most people here expect. Rare size and physical ability. Who knows about the rest. I don't think the Bills will want to trade the necessary assets to move up and take him if that is what it would take to get him. -
I think Bills are planning a move up in the draft
jahnyc replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills would really do this (which I doubt), one potential positive would be having a low cost starting QB for at least some period of time (assuming that the QB drafted was ready to play in his first or second year as a Bill). -
How would you feel if the Bills traded up for Paxton Lynch?
jahnyc replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills do not think that Taylor is the guy or that they will not be able to re-sign him after this season, then I am fine with taking a QB (Lynch) if he is there at 19. Would not be in favor of moving up to get him. -
No progress toward TT extension per Carucci; agent unhappy
jahnyc replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reality is that the Bills cannot pay him now, even if they wanted to. I am not sure whether the Bills are hedging a bit in their public statements about TT in part because of this, or because they are not sure he really is the guy. I guess we will find out soon enough if the Bills take a QB in the first round of the draft. The agent took an unnecessary shot with the lack of discipline comment, and it was clearly directed at management and the coaches. Who knows, he may be trying to precipitate a blow-up to get TT paid now, possibly by another team after a trade (I am sure that TT would find Denver to be an attractive landing spot). I do not see this happening because TT is under contract and the Bills have the leverage, but if the agent pushes TT to hold out, things would get interesting. -
What will happen if the Bills finish last in the division?
jahnyc replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A bit early to have any expectations about next season, but our schedule does seem tougher than last year (at least as of now). -
Yes, a bit concerning, mainly because we are up against the cap, and we cannot count on being able to sign many free agents to replace the players that we have lost. The draft will not be able to fill all holes.

Yes, depth will be a huge concern. If we have injuries, we will be screwed (even more so than in prior years). -
Chris Hogan visiting Patriots-Signs $12M offer sheet
jahnyc replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We are a mediocre team losing talent and we will not be able to fill all of the holes through the draft. Sure, some of these players were back-ups, but what concerns me is whether we will be able to sign replacement players if we have injuries during training camp and once the season starts. We are really tight against the cap now. Any improvement for this season will need to come from more familiarity with the coaching staff's offensive and defensive systems, better coaching and growth from players like Taylor, Wakins etc. -

jahnyc replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who knows what the Bills really think of Hogan, but I would not read too much into the low tender by the Bills since they are up against the cap and were limited in what they could do at that time. Interesting that a lot of the players released or not tendered have found homes quickly in free agency (Bradham, Brooks, Williams, Hogan (yes, I know he was tendered), McKelvin and Charles).
