I assume our ability to consummate a trade will be for the most part dependent on acquiring a player with a very low cap figure for the remainder of this season. We should focus on the those possibilities.

10/14/24 Game 6 Bills at (NJ) Jets MNF Post Game thread

Some quick observations: 1. I didn't here Sauce Gardner's name called once during the game. 2. Davis really surprised and impressed me last night. Seemed ineffective prior to this game, but I also knew a lot of his carries were coming in clean-up duty after our starters were out of the game. 3. The Dawkins and Brown penalties hurt, but I do like their feistiness and physicality (and the Brown penalty was a poor call). 4. Bernard is really good and Williams has improved a lot from his rookie season. Johnson is consistently strong. 5. Great that Josh played well coming after the last two games. Was worried about his confidence after the last game. -

Not a good group of offensive weapons for Josh tonight. -
10/14/24 Game 6 GAMEDAY Bills at Jets MNF PREGAME THREAD

I am very uneasy. Bills offense has looked terrible the last two weeks and the Jets defense may be the best one we will have faced so far this year. Not expecting a lot from our offense and worried about the ability of our defense to stop the run against the Jets offense. -
Really hope they have figured out a way to get Allen more comfortable if he is unable to roll out to his right. Ravens and Texans had a defensive player on top of Allen as soon as he tried to roll to the right (where he usually can buy more time and make a play). Taking this away from Josh seemed to throw him off his game.

Have to think that the Jets will focus on the running game against our defense given our poor rush defense and Downing's prior history as OC with the Titans during which the Titans led the NFL in rush attempts in his first year.

Notwithstanding our potential interest in Adams, given our cap situation and ownership of the Raiders not looking to retain salary, I just can't see the Bills as a serious contender for Adams. Having said that, another reason that it would be great to soundly beat the Jets is that it can only help push this possibility forward if Adams cares more about playing for a winning team instead of someone he has played with before (i.e., Carr or Rogers).

Definitely the latter.

Do you approve of the job Brandon Beane is doing?
jahnyc replied to KentuckyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Overall, yes, but I had wanted Beane to trade up for Thomas (WR) in the draft and I still think that he should have. -
I thought that the Raiders recently had some cash flow issues. If true, I don't think they will want to eat any part of his salary for 2024.

10/6/2024 - Bills at Texans post game thread.

A few quick observations: 1. Ravens recognized that Allen's big plays and extra time generally come from rolling to the right and putting immediate pressure on Allen when he does that neutralizes his ability to make a play. Texans copied that defensive game plan and Josh was forced to make throws from the pocket. 2. Brady's offensive play calling and game plan were awful. Same running plays and too many first down runs. Heavy rush but no screens. 3. As others have noted, this game highlighted the need for a true number one WR. Texans offense lost all of its momentum after Collins exited the game and Josh did not have an open WR to throw to. Eagles offense also has played poorly without Brown. The need is clear. Interestingly, Diggs is not that guy. He is better than anything we currently have, but he could not fulfill the number one WR role after Collins left the game. 4. Have to give the undermanned defense props for its overall performance. Collins leaving the game helped, but they generally played strong against the run for the entire game. -
I think it is a bit early for this kind of a take. We were extremely limited overall in free agency given our cap situation and we had needs at a number of positions in addition to WR. I am not sure that Coleman was the best pick available to us at WR, but I had hoped that Beane would draft more than one WR in the draft. One thing that I did not count on was that the anticipated top teams before the start of the season all seem to have their weaknesses. Seems pretty wide open this year.

Once the decision was made on Diggs, what could Beane have done given our poor cap situation for this season? He had to shop in the bargain bin, and that is why we ended up with MVS and Hollins (and Samuel as a low mid-priced free agent acquisition). We will see if Coleman turns out to the right pick in the draft, but our cap situation dictated the limited additions we were able to make to our WR group and our roster in general in free agency or trades.

A top tier WR would be great, but maybe the needs on defense are greater. Still not convinced that our safety play is strong enough and help at DT and DE may be the most significant need given our lack of quality depth on the d-line. LB is a need as well, but if Bernard can come back this week or next week and Milano in December, we should be okay.
