I think they bring back neither. The expectation is that Cook will carry the load and we’ll bring in a very cheap vet or late round pick to be the third down back. Hines can be cut with no dead cap. He’s probably a goner.

Buscaglia: Both Bills Coordinators are likely to be back in 2023
DapperCam replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
We didn’t have Saffold who seems worse than Williams at G last year. Spencer Brown also looked worse to me. He had off-season back surgery and didn’t have any training camp. For a big guy like him that can be a career killer. Idk if it’s on Kromer or Dorsey, but we only seemed to have like 2 running plays. Maybe get creative and add a few more for next year to make things more difficult for the opposing team. -
Mel Kiper is back and you won’t like it

If Edmunds walks and we draft his replacement, that frees up enough cap to sign a starting caliber o-lineman. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. -
Bills Coaching Staff Changes Thread
DapperCam replied to hellofellowbillsfans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Frazier doesn’t have a contract, so he doesn’t need fired. Maybe they are clearing out his guys that are still under contract. -
I said Benford, not Bernard. Benford played safety in college some so it isn’t that big of a stretch. He’s also a late round pick, so if I were him I would do anything to get on the field as a starter.

Should we trade Ed Oliver?
DapperCam replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oliver’s 5th year option is fully guaranteed and his stats haven’t been that great. Idk if you will find a trade partner. Might have to sit tight with him and hope he improves. -
I think they are going to give Benford every opportunity to win the starting safety job. This is a budget year and we need to find adequate cheap solutions where possible. Hopefully Hyde is well enough to return. Sounds like Poyer might be gone.

Hey pal, I think you might be lost. You’re looking for the “Reasons to be Pessimistic” thread, which is every other thread except this one.

If we sign a vet WR like Crowder this year he probably won’t break his ankle during the 4th game of the season. What are the odds that happens twice in a row?
-
Defense: - Don’t bring back Frazier. Look for somebody better or at least different. - Let Poyer walk unless he’s coming back at an absolute bargain. - Benford to safety - Let Edmunds walk (depending on input from new DC and scheme) - Sign vet UFA MLB that is cheaper than Edmunds. Think of D. Jones and T. Settle caliber signings last year. ^ We’ve already reduced the cap dedicated to defense here to be much more reasonable Offense: - Draft WR and G/C in the first three rounds of the draft - Insist that Dorsey develop a short passing/screen game - Maybe bring Crowder back if they liked him in the little bit of time he had before he got hurt. Otherwise look for a reliable vet slot WR on a good deal. - If they can manage the cap, look for a middle of the road vet right tackle. Special Teams: - Maybe ditch some of the higher cap specialists like Taiwan Jones - Bring back Martin If we can replace our worst players with okay ones (Saffold, Spencer Brown, WR2, slot WR, Jaquan Johnson, Hamlin, Marlowe) we have a chance to really improve if we can tweak some things in coaching.

Players have career years in a contract season all the time. The trick is to not fall for it and let them walk afterwards. Let some other team overpay them when they revert to their regular selves.
-
I hope he gets paid if that’s what he wants. It won’t be by us. If the market isn’t there for him because of his injuries it would be cool to have him back on a cheaper deal.
-
People are just excited for the possibility of getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs, lol. Not too different from the Bills when they made it with Tyrod.

This place is frankly depressing, so put any reasons to be optimistic about next season for the Bills here. 1. Tre White could very well be back to his regular All Pro self with an offseason of rest and a full training camp. 2. It’s possible we have Hyde and Poyer back there for game 1 next season (we’ll see if Poyer is too expensive, but with his injuries he might not be). 3. Gabe Davis and Ed Oliver will be in contract years next season. They might ball out to get paid. 4. We have Josh Allen, the best QB in the league (or second or third best, point remains). 5. Saffold won’t be playing for us next year. There is no way his replacement isn’t better, even if it’s some third round rookie. 6. Elam, Shakir and Cook will all have longer leashes next season. They could show out in a big way. We saw glimpses all season with them. 7. Von Miller is a machine, you know he will rehab and do everything he can to be 100% for our playoff push next year. 8. We have a first round pick which could become a stud playmaker. We kept our draft capital. I’m sure there are more, what do you think?

Bills will not make it to the playoffs in 2023?
DapperCam replied to Cygnus99's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would be really surprised if they miss the playoffs next year, but you never know. The same offense that struggled against a good playoff team feasts on bad and mediocre teams. I could see the defense taking a step back if there is a shakeup there (in terms of coaches and players). -
Was Micah Hyde's injury the key to the Bills' season?
DapperCam replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
In general I agree, but when you lose 2 all pros on defense that’s gonna hurt. Bills still made the divisional, so our season wasn’t “tanked”. Just not as good as it could have been with a little more luck… -
Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
DapperCam replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
5th year option is fully guaranteed. They will keep him another year and maybe see if they can get “contract year” production from him. He certainly seems capable, but the production isn’t always there. -
I hope whoever goes to the Super Bowl from the AFC gets crushed so hard people are turning off their TVs after the halftime show

No Joe Bus, Burrow did not surpass Allen based on yesterday
DapperCam replied to appoo's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bengals were playing the correct offense for having a garbage o-line. Quick passes and power straight ahead running. The Bills have a similarly garbage o-line but instead go for slow developing runs and slow developing downfield passes. Guess who had more success? -
It being his first year as an OC is the only reason I give him some leeway. It’s possible he could learn from his mistakes. I wouldn’t be heartbroken if he were replaced with a more veteran OC either.

McD is okay, but his coordinators stink. Frazier should be gone and Dorsey should be given some pointed criticism and some serious homework for this summer.
-
Some of those players that were injured and were going to play a major role might not be the same anymore. Poyer, Hyde, White, Miller…all might be done or much less effective next year. Edmunds might be gone as well if he isn’t signed. Defense might look very different next year. Might be time for a new DC and soft reboot of the defense with some new blood.
