You just don't dispose of your good young players as soon as they become good for the uncertainty of a draft pick. Davis is here to help limit the work load for Cook. He is here to help in short yardage and add an additional weapon for Josh. I love the Davis Pick as I saw him play at UK and Vandy, but this kid has logged a ton of miles as a college RB. He isn't here to replace Cook, but to compliment him. Beane has been looking for this type pair since he drafted Singletary and then added Moss the next draft. That pair didn't quite work out. I'm more hopeful for this pair. The closest Bills comparison to how I think this is going to work is the Thurman Thomas/ Kenneth Davis pair. Granted Cook isn't Thomas, but I think the analogy works. The best thing about the current RB room, is that the team has confidence in all 3 players and I can easily see Davis or Johnson stepping up and succeeding if Cook gets hurt.

LOL - Beane, one of the best GM's in the NFL disagrees with your "rules." Between 2019 and 2022 (4 drafts), Beane used a 3rd on Singletary, a 3rd on Moss and a 2nd on Cook. I do agree with the general premise in today's NFL that you don't draft RBs in the 1st rd, but the rest of your rules make literally no sense, especially for a team trying to get to the Super Bowl.

As to the OP - keep your day job. Let's go over this again. Cook, in his 2nd year in the NFL, was 3rd in yards from scrimmage by a RB in the entire NFL. He was a Pro Bowl selection. Cook is an excellent receiver, has a fantastic burst and average 4.7 yards a carry. He is also 24. (25 in a month). The key to longevity in the NFL is tread on the tire. Cook only has only carried the ball 230 (college) plus 326 in the NFL. That's 556 carries over the last 6 years. That is not a heavy work load. Cook benefitted from UGA's rotational backfield. Now let's compare to Davis. In 5 years in college, Davis carried the ball 746 times (that's 500 more college carries than Cook). He is also only 6 weeks younger than Cook. Davis is definitely here is lessen Cook's workload and hopefully keep both players healthy and productive, but don't be fooled. Davis has less tread on the tire after being the workhorse back for 3 different universities in college (Temple, Vandy and UK). Cook is much more likely to get a 2nd NFL contract from the Bills than Davis. By the time Davis gets to his 2nd contract he'll already be nearly 29. Cook will only be nearly 27. Trading Cook for a 2nd or 3rd round pick now right after he established himself as a Pro Bowl running back is just dumb. When was the last time the Bills drafted a RB who had a season similar to Cook's with a 2nd or 3rd round pick? The answer is Travis Henry in 2001. So lets trade Cook and wait 20 years to replace him. Sounds like a great strategy.

I'm sure Colin Kaepernick's agent has already contacted the Bills. Maybe the Falcons will trade Taylor Heinicke to the Bills for a 6th.

Who? Who in camp has impressed you and makes you think he could be a major cog in the offense or step up if one of the top receivers is injured? Hamler? Shavers? Shorter? MVS? Isabella? Maybe one of these guys has done something during practice to convince management that they are worthy of a roster spot, but I doubt anyone of them will have an impact on the roster even if they make the team.

Have we? Who have we really missed out on? Shakir has developed nicely. We got everything we could from McKenzie. Ray-Ray McCloud? Hodgins?

Tannehill is unlikely to sign here even if offered. Tannehill is likely waiting for the first major QB injury so that he can jump into a starting role. Think Flacco last year.

It will depend on who shakes loose and how healthy guys like Bishop get before the season starts. He is back to doing conditioning drills. As to the WR. I'd cut everyone after Hollins (I'm not a fan of his either) including MVS, Shorter, Shavers, Isabella, Hamler etc.... I don't see anything so far that tells me they can help this team. Granted I'm not seeing practice or film on the special teams work, but they all look awful with the offense. I'm praying someone better gets cut elsewhere. At this point, I'd keep Davidson as TE4, and move Kincaid around the field as both TE and WR. Similar to how UGA utilized Brock Bowers. Bowers lined up in the slot, with the O-line in 11 and 12 personnel and occasionally as a traditional boundary WR. Kincaid is likely to be our top targeted receiver anyway. Think of it this way. Would we be so worried about WR if the roster looked like this TE (3) - Knox, Morris, Davidson WR (5) - Kincaid, Shakir, Samuel, Coleman and Hollins

I agree somewhat, except they got a lot of reps with Josh in the joint practices this week. I totally agree that Trubisky was awful. This was his chance to shine with the first team players and crapped the bed. DiNucci is just learning the offense. He’ll hopefully be better next week.

The Bills have already seen Jonathan play in real NFL games last season and know what he brings. They are likely going to keep both Jonathan and Solomon as they probably can’t cut either one and they like to rotate pass rushers. It helps their cause that Smoot can also play tackle. Because of Smoot’s versatility, the Bills probably only keep 4 DTs.

The list isn’t just about who makes the team, it’s who played well to help their status. Gore certainly helped himself earn a PS job. I thought he looked better than Evans. Hardy got all the reps as the punt returner and broke a 31 yard return. He also got significant time at corner. This usage shows that he has solidified a roster spot. He also did a decent job at CB.

Zero chance. Only an injury to one of the top 3 could open the door for Evans or Gore. Evans is probably fighting Gore for a PS gig. The Bills like what they got from Johnson last season and he’ll probably take over the kickoff returner duties in the regular season. He played only a few snaps against Pit as he is coming back from injury.

Preseason game 2 is in the books. There was some good play by a few bubble players that helped their cause. Ingram and Hardy probably solidified their roster spots. There was also some mediocre play by some known vets (or in Trubisky’s case terrible play) that hurt their cause. Trubisky also got hurt. Specialists (4) - Bass, Martin, Ferguson and Hardy (KR/CB) DE (6) - Rousseau, Miller, Epenesa, Smoot, Solomon. Bubble Jonathan if they keep only 5. PS Cline. Cut - Toohill DT (4) - Oliver, Jones, A Johnson, Carter. Bubble - D. Williams (if someone gets hurt or they keep 5). PS - Ankou LB (5) - Benard, Williams, Jones. Bubble - Spector, Ulofoshio, Andreessen, Morrow. Morrow and Spector have injuries. Milano may have to start the year on the 53 man roster if he might come back this season. I think Jonathan, Ingram, and Hardy did a great deal today to help earn jobs on the 53 man roster. Andreessen may have played his way onto the practice squad. I'm bullish on Shakir, Samuel and Kincaid, but Hollins, MVS and Coleman have not impressed so far. Coleman has an "excuse," but Hollins and MVS don't. The good news for them is Hamler, Shorter and Shavers haven’t done much either. Granted Trubisky is throwing the ball to them, but I'm not really seeing them get open much. I hate to say this but Davidson looks better than any of the depth WRs.

I think he already won the KR job. McD is working at CB to see how valuable he can be besides returning kicks. I thought Jonathan played well tonight. Wilson and Fields are terrible. That said, I'd take Fields over what I saw from Trubisky. Fields can at least make something happen with his legs. Give him to Brady for a couple of years and he'll turn him into a QB.

Just finished watching the pre-season game. 1. The defense looked much much better. 2. All the o-lines created running lanes 3. Mitch Trubisky is just awful. It looked like he can't read defenses, has no idea how to get the ball out quickly and has happy feet in the pocket.
