This is where good coaches and a quality sports psychologist come in. All the NFL teams have these people on retainer. Josh is going through a crisis of confidence. We have leaned on this kid to make up for a lot of shortcomings on this roster. It’s time to give Josh the support he needs or our lofty goals will be unrealistic.

Allen ignoring defenders last few weeks.

Is this him trying to do too much, or is he not being coached to avoid low percentage throws at all costs. This unfortunately will land at the feet of McDermott. The idea of throwing into coverage should taken out of Josh’s process. -
Hard to disagree but it’s the last 2 games and it’s happened during an extreme let down by our defense.

Poor coaching by McDermott is becoming a theme

He is a defensive coach and it’s obvious he’s lost confidence in his defense. They are feisty and the front seven plays hard, but this young secondary cannot hold up against big time receivers. They grab and hold and never knock balls away. 50/50 catches are commonplace for our opponents. He’s never been more than a conservative coach the players play hard for. If he can’t get Josh to cut down on turnovers, he needs to go. -

It wasn’t happening with Dabol and Dorsey is probably calling these long developing routes over the middle and Josh is not accounting for a defender. -

He’s a smart kid, he’ll look at the film and see how damaging those throws are. The coaches have to demand it. -

I love the guy, but these games that are closer than they should be, he’s bouncing off tacklers and a fumble potentially loses it. If the offensive coaches can get him to value the ball, we can be a lot to handle. Picks in the red zone are destructive. Maybe now after 2 bad losses, they’ll realize it’s a problem. -

Seems like they think he’s capable of doing anything he wants and getting away with it. Even those great runs in overtime, he was carrying that ball like a loaf of bread. Ball security is everything at the end of games. -

You don’t want to limit his aggression but he’s making bad decisions and with a game that is guaranteed to be a tie worst case, he’s throwing it right to the defense. The young secondary is being exposed now and we need some veteran leadership at corner. Look for a lot of these games to be shootouts. -

That throw was unforgivable and Josh is trying to do too much. Just take what the defense is giving you. These offensive coaches have to protect this guy from low percentage throws. The idea is to protect the FG when you’re on the 20 with makeable throws and QB runs. Two weeks, 4 red zone picks. Very concerning, especially with our inept secondary. -
I think you’re on to something. Reliance on this freak athlete to avoid killer lineman and lbs rushing against pedestrian pass protectors in predictable passing play calling,is not sustainable and will get Josh seriously injured. o-line coach, Dorsey and RBs have to be better and share more of the responsibilities.

The team is good enough as constructed to compete for a championship. I think the problem that surfaced in the Jets game is that our offense has become too reliant on Josh’s ability to avoid free rushers and either run or find off schedule targets. Ths is not sustainable without getting Josh injured or having him facing a crisis of confidence because there’s too many in coverage. We have to become multidimensional using Hines and Cook on short screens and underneath crossing patterns along with a better running approach using Gilliam more as lead blocker. Let’s see if our lineman can be better at opening some running lanes. If we can do this , our incredibly talented QB can be even more effective throwing to receivers downfield.
-
That’s just frustration from losing a game that we all marked down as a W. This could be a positive if the coaches and players take away that we must make adjustments in our approach. Josh has too much responsibility for our fate. Play better run defense, tackle better, pass protect and run block. Put the run into our offense so Josh doesn’t get overwhelmed by good front sevens.

A "credit to the Jets - that's a good team" thread

Jets played with urgency and grit in a game they had to have. Their defense is real and our run defenders did not match intensity. We can’t allow runners to keep abusing our front 7. Let’s see what we do against Dalvin and Co. -
Who has been the biggest disappointment?
Eastport bills replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
For me it’s the O-line and Dorsey, because as good as our record is we have become predictable and QBcentric with limited talent at receiver and O-line. If Josh didn’t have incredible escapability and improvisational skills we’re a 500 team. Just a suggestion, stop exposing our generational QB to serious injury and establish the run to give the defense something to account for. -
Our chances for one seed is still intact, but we need to show some urgency in games against our division. Does anyone think the Jets or Miami are coming to our place and taking us down? The games against NE will be competitive because they are playing good defense and we have to get back our swagger. Let’s see how we play against Minn. Without Poyer, Rousseau, Milano It’s going to be tough.

Josh has carried this team through 8 games. Now it’s time for Sean, Dorsey and Frazier, if they’re any good, to build this guy’s confidence by doing what they can to take the pressure off by getting the O-line to protect and run block. They must force feed running the ball in the play calling to slow the rush and finally, improve this run defense and tackling. That game should have been a W with the Jets starting that last drive at their own 5 yard line.

Josh Allen's waning confidence and mental yips

Bills are Now Out of the Spotlight
Eastport bills replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s a long season with 9 more games. This game represents the clunker we knew our guys had in them. Now we will see if the Bills are the team the national media anointed as SB favorites. The coaching staff and players have to come out next week with fire and win a game. It’s go time. -
If we can’t start scoring the way we did before the bye and stop the run, we will be playing in KC again if we get that far. Teams can take Diggs away and then our offense has to find other ways to move the ball other Allen runs. I’m expecting Dorsey to have a whole new approach next week.
