The root source of D problems is the D Line
Eastport bills replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
D-line was awful but a zone defense in the secondary was giving up wide open completions consistently. Nicua and Cup are good but they should have been doubled especially after Robinson went down. Our 2 LB sets were pitifully out of position and blocked easily when they were in the right place. Detroit will feast on this defense. Josh better be ready to hang 35 to 40 again. -
Josh put his Superman cape on today

That’s pretty sad, especially because they were leading the league in defensive points allowed. -
McD will be the scapegoat to hide the real issue this week

I listened to Sean’s post game presser and it sounded like he didn’t understand calling a TO was effectively giving up. Then he said that they didn’t have enough men on the field to rush the punter. I love the guy and the players play hard for him but he is not buttoned up at crucial times in big games. -

I have to believe our defense will be better down the stretch. Considering Josh with a full complement of weapons will put up big numbers, he’s capable of putting the team on his shoulders. If that false start is called and they make one stop, do you think Josh doesn’t pull that game out of his rear end as atrocious as our defense was.? -
12/8/24 Game 14 GAMEDAY! Bills vs Rams post game Thread
Eastport bills replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sean was bad, no doubt, but when your defense has 1 stop all game and gives up 2 consecutive long drives for TDs after cutting the lead to 3, how can you pin it all on him?Did Babich make the necessary adjustments? Did our Special Teams coach prepare our punt unit to close down rushing lanes so we don’t have a block for a TD? How do you allow one of the worst 3rd down teams to be almost perfect on 3rd down? Is Sean responsible for all the PIs? That’s enough said. -
Why is Matt not coming off the field if he hasn’t played in a year and a half. He’s out of position and can’t chase down running plays or underneath receivers as well as Dorian. He’s not making tackles and our run defense was invisible. It’s a game like this that scares you to death about winning big games against quality QBs, with good O-lines and RBs. Josh will have to score 30 plus with no mistakes.

Josh doesn’t need SBs to be considered the best of his generation. I believe he will get a few but our defense is not stopping really good offenses. They’re too small and our back end is inconsistent. -

The defense was exposed today and Sean and Babich had no answers. We have a problem that starts with our front four not being able to get pressure against good O-lines. Then throw in our zone defense can be abused by good QBs.. We don’t stop the run well enough That unfortunately describes the Lions, Eagles, and Baltimore. -
An absolute disaster by the coaches at the end of this game
Eastport bills replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
You can’t trust Sean in these big spots because he is just not up to it. That timeout was him giving up. The most frustrating part of it is that our defense stopped their offense once the whole game. Why would you think we would stop them from getting a 1st down if they needed one? This is the only way we lose. A shootout where we get out scored and our defense can’t get near a quality QB with excellent receiving. -
Different team, different year and everyone thinks the Chiefs can look like crap every single week and flip a switch in the playoffs. They did it last season but their defense was a different animal leading up to the playoffs than the Swiss cheese they’re throwing out there. If the Bills get them you putting your house on KC? Good luck.

Have you been watching the games? Rapp represents the physicality that our defense wants to play with. He’s great in run support and has some picks while playing all the games. Our team leads in points allowed and we’re 10 and 2. What are you dissatisfied with. When receivers run routes across the middle, it’s Rapp that they’re thinking about.

What’s it gonna take to improve /prioritize our run defense?
Eastport bills replied to Jistafan's topic in The Stadium Wall
They have made a conscious decision to take away down field splash plays by receivers between the 20s, sacrificing heavy boxes to defend running lanes. This strategy as described by Collingsworth, makes offenses go long fields without mistakes and usually translates to FG attempts after our defense clamps down on the run game in the red zone or from the 30 yard line in. -
OT: what did you think of the hit on Lawrence?
Eastport bills replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Al-Shaair has a history of being a violent and a willful headhunter that won’t be satisfied until he either does permanent brain damage or kills someone. He should be suspended for the rest of the season and put on notice that one more dirty hit to a defenseless QB sliding to protect themselves and he’s out of the league. -
Thanksgiving Day football, no Bills talk
Eastport bills replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Chicago is a poorly coached, undisciplined mess of a team. To think they had the 1st pick Caleb.Williams, a top 5 receiver Odunze, Moore, Allen, Kmet, Swift from Philly and they will be 4 and 8. They have a defensive coach and their defense is just pedestrian. They lose close games, they lose blowouts and they are boring with poor play calling. They don’t tackle, they don’t cover receivers in man and that’s what they play mostly. They have expensive FAs(Edmunds, Sweat) and it’s obvious they need a new GM and coach. I sympathize with the fans in Chicago who must be on suicide watch. -
Great breakdown, the point you make about an effort to establish the run with Cook and bubble screens with Shakir and Samuel are giving the offense some juice. The targets are condensed because Josh is throwing less downfield. I’m so impressed with what Hollins has done with a few receptions each game. Shakir is the best slot receiver in football( certainly the clutchest)and Cooper looks like he will command double coverage.. It should be interesting to see how they deploy Kincaid and Coleman. They both could be good red zone options. I’m afraid as long as Kincaid’s active Knox is the odd man out.
-
I go back and forth with this guy. He is not being used in our offense. He certainly has talent but they want to feature Kincaid because he’s more explosive and has better hands. You look at the way KC uses Noah Gray and Baltimore uses Likely as complementary TEs and you wonder if Dawson can’t be more involved. He’s great depth if nothing else.
-
I’m not saying he can’t eventually be a contributor but you can’t have multiple high defensive draft choices be multi year backups (Elam, Bishop) It forces addressing these positions in FA or the draft again.
-
You’re absolutely right, until you beat the champs you are what your record says you are. Excuses are for losers and we have accomplished regular season success and postseason failures. My point is that our best player doesn’t have scars and always shows up. Our supporting cast is better and new in some cases, more prepared for the challenge.
-
Not saying we couldn’t beat them especially in our building, but modifying the game plan with our slight in stature defensive personnel still will offer a challenge stopping a ball control running attack with red zone efficiency like they have. With Henry and Lamar running behind that mammoth O-line, I prefer our chances against KC after someone else eliminates Baltimore.
-
Josh doesn’t have a psychological deficit about KC because he’s been good enough in the losses. The “13 seconds “ ugliness is a McDermott thing. Last year our decimated defense was abused and dominated and only because Josh is great we were in a position to win before Dawkins got beat and Josh got jostled on a game winning throw to Shakir in the end zone. Throw in Bass choking on the chip shot FG and that team wasn’t good enough. This year we have a better defense, better receivers ( last year Diggs sucked and mentality checked out) and our running game and O-line is better. With Josh playing at a level that’s historic, we are better prepared than ever before.
-
I agree, he’s like a deer in the headlights, looking overwhelmed by the speed of the game. A team like ours can’t wait around for him to develop because we’re thin at the position and Rapp leads with his helmet and plays with reckless abandon.
-
I’m know we’re a different team and I agree if healthy we’re a handful for anyone. The win against Baltimore 3 or 4 years ago also means nothing because they didn’t have Henry or the receivers.(Flowers, TEs) They are unpredictable and inconsistent. We could get a version of them that would result in a shootout that might not end well. Give me the Chiefs any day. We matchup better against them. I think McDermott and Babich actually have a good defensive game plan for them.
-
Not only will Ravens make the playoffs, they will be a team we don’t want to face because we don’t matchup well against Henry and their run game. They are a dangerous team. Best case scenario is the Chiefs get them at home before the AFC championship.
-
Bishop looks like a project. Not only is he lacking the physicality necessary for the safety position, he seems out of position when he’s on the field.I don’t know what the scouting department saw in him. I see a middle round pick at that position.

I think 14 wins gets the #1 seed.
Eastport bills replied to Billyhouseman's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unfortunately the Chiefs are most likely to get 14 and 3 with the light schedule. Carolina, Vegas, Chargers in KC, Denver, Houston and Pitt if it still matters.Bills can get there but they have to go 2 and 1 against SF, at Detroit at Rams and then run the table against Patriots (2) NY Jets, I think playing the Lions indoors is tough, along with the Rams playing for their playoff lives at SoFi. The Chiefs will lose at least 1 but the odds are we will see them in KC going 4 and 2 in our last 6.
