That’s what a good GM gets done. If he replaces him with a quality player it’s fine. So far his performance after creating cap space has been underwhelming. Is this guy aware that we’ve been humiliated as a SB favorite the 3seasons. Let’s be proactive and address specific needs with proven FA instead of frantically dumpster diving with what’s left.

Beane again showing why he is a top GM

You must be toughened up living in enemy territory. Those fools in Miami think they will be the big dogs in the AFCE now. Living down there is everyone’s dream. Sounds like a great situation you have and a Bills fan to boot. Nicely done. -

Well said. I know Poyer wanted Miami. Can you imagine what an advantage it is to have no state tax and perfect weather. We were lucky to get him back. -

So in your estimation,as one of the foremost evaluators of talent, at 24 he’s reached his ceiling as player no matter what system or coaching he.gets. That seems like sour grapes from a jilted fanboy.Josh and the rest of the team looked awful against the Bengals in a snowstorm. We can’t predict what he will look like in a different defense but his body, speed and length is an asset for anyone in pass coverage or chasing down backs sideline to sideline. Your problem, for the purposes of this conversation is that you refuse to acknowledge Edmunds evolution in the last year as a more instinctual, physical player who plays every down, through injury and produces. Can we survive losing him, of course, but you’re judging him by his first couple years. Remember, the Bills coach and GM loved him but couldn’t afford the price. He was classy as hell when he raved about the organization, fans and city as he left. He got generational , life changing money as the top inside LB in the game. -

You’re forgetting he was. being used in a defense with Milano and 5 in the secondary every down. He played all game without substitution and called the signals from the age of 21 to 24. He averaged well over 100 tackles and the defense was in the top 3 in every defensive metric. He was much better last season instinctively and if you can’t acknowledge that you’re in the vast minority. The guy’s just getting started and he’s a physical freak with speed and length. He would have been paid by any GM who watched his tape. -
OK, let’s hope we can keep Josh healthy. I guess with our cap limitations, this is the type of backup we can afford.

Has Kyle won an NFL game in his entire career? There has to be a better option.

Beane again showing why he is a top GM

The only reason I bring them up is that their positions require competent replacements. Say what you want about Motor and Edmunds, they were important starters on a team that won a lot of games and was one of the favorites to go to the SB the last 2 years. Keemun had plenty of success with a few teams and was a competent backup which is why he keeps getting contracts. I believe Motor could have been a more productive player with a better O-line and play calling that prioritized the run with someone other than Josh. Just see who we bring in to replace Edmunds before criticizing him. Inside LBs don’t get 18 million a year because they suck. -

I see this as a good start, but at the same time we should realize those restructures are pushing the cap limitations down the road. I don’t really care because we’re in a win now mentality. The reality is the state of our team is still weaker than at seasons end. Losing Edmunds, Singletary, Keemun leaves us having to replace productive vital position players. Now the FA signings have been really important but more work to do. -
Busted, I love trolling the Bills board. You gotta admit, he’s been our best receiver in the playoffs, 3 years running.
-
You’re absolutely right. Matakevich is a luxury a cap stretched team can’t afford. Now you wonder how we got into cap jail in the first place. This guy overpays for unproductive players. The money spent on the underachieving O-line is the biggest issue and the D-line hasn’t produced commensurate with the outlay. He’s got this year before we should look elsewhere.

Diggs is the kind of player that every team needs to find success in the NFL. He’s supremely confident he can dominate any defender or scheme. He can’t tolerate losing if he is not allowed to contribute with being targeted. In wins, he’s fine with others filling the stat sheet. He’s nasty and projects toughness to younger players. Part of the problem last season was Dorsey not finding a way to feature Diggs down the stretch and in the playoffs. Dorsey needs to learn from his epic fail at the end of the season. Diggs strives for success and demands production from his teammates. How can you not love this guy.

Gabe Davis is developing in his rookie contract years. He has drops in his regular season resume. He also is a big game baller. The last 3 seasons he has been great in the playoffs. He’s young and has been a great draft choice. You don’t get the nickname “Big game Gabe” for not showing up when it counts the most.
-
Wake me up when Beane makes a difference making FA signing. I’m losing my patience with this obsession with cheap useless players. This is a crucial offseason for us. He has failed since the Josh draft and Diggs trade.
-
I don’t know how he’ll be deployed, it depends on their other LBs. I know he’ll be asked to rush the QB more than we rush our LBs.
-
They never coached him up to be in pressure packages. He played LB with Milano in 2LB defense with the nickel. They wanted to rush 4.
-
Good post, it’s a lot different not wanting to win a bidding war for him than denigrating his talent. We couldn’t retain him but in a conventional 4/3 with him outside, he thrives.
-
You’re not getting those guys on the cheap. Maybe not Edmunds #,. but you think those guys could be deployed in 2LB defenses and play every down. Edmunds allowed our young secondary to play nickel all game. These guys are long in the tooth and Edmunds is 24.
-
Finally, someone who’s objective. These people that won’t acknowledge his performance last season have sacrificed their credibility.
-
Sour grapes from someone who must have been in a coma when Edmunds had a great year and represented our most physical player. You think professional GMs give 72 million to a inside LB that is what you’ve describing. You’re talking about his first couple years. He was 24 last year.
-
Thankfully your not making personnel decisions. Vander Esch plays 5 games a year and is not pimple on Edmunds butt.
-
My opinion is based on watching Sean’s game day decision making. and the fact that he’s unable to impact the offense because he’s reluctant to clash with his OCs. Case in point, our offense was predictable and never developed a running game with Josh being their leading rusher. Our O-line was just OK. The short passing game which dominated early, turned into big vertical passing game with a receiving corp that underachieved. The defense, Sean’s wheelhouse, got pushed around by Cinn. and were underwhelming against Miami. Sean himself admitted he wants a defense that is more physically dominant. This is after he assembled a defense that is more about speed. We need an HC that can add something to our offensive production ala Reid, McVay, Payton or Shanahan. If our defense put their stamp on playoff games that would be another story. Offensive minded HCs are the new poster boys for SBs. We should be proactive during Josh’s prime.
-
Reid was also acknowledged as a good coach who couldn’t get over the hump and was replaced. I understand many fans are connected to Sean because he made us a team that was a legitimate contender to win a SB. The question you have to ask yourself is once you have reached the level of being a top team, how long do you give a coach to reach the last game. Long suffering fans are driven to go further. Besides the soul crushing choke of “13 seconds “, Sean’s teams have regressed on offense and have been limited to letting Josh find a way with pedestrian O-lines and running attacks. His defense has underachieved in the playoffs. You like rooting for a high character leader like Sean but remember this a bottom line business for coaches. When your team is a contender they must find a way or after 7 or 8 years get another voice. Reid, Jimmy Johnson, Landry, Shanahan, Gibbs all got fired after winning.
