Bills will add at least 4 more Free Agents
Eastport bills replied to khlax3's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can’t fire him yet and hopefully won’t have to,but between blowing the cap on underachievers and putting undue pressure on himself to build a competitive SB worthy roster with limited cap space, he’s a year away from the hot seat. Ponch, instead of some backhanded sarcasm, give me some credible support for Beane’s performance. -
Suitable Edmunds Replacements in the draft

I agree with that, but the point was you can’t replace a speedy, talented LB in a 2 LB defense with just anyone. Even the All Pro designations are mostly rep and political. -

Good point, maybe asking him to make bold moves is the kiss of death. -

He went 2 pro bowls and most NFL Analysts agree he was snubbed last season. What’s your point? -

He signed a potential slot receiver with speed who is coming off a serious injury, and a guard. The positions that demand talented FA is ILB and a big bodied back who can get short yardage and pass protect. He whiffed on 3 backs who would have been perfect(Foreman, Williams and Perrine) and signed affordable deals.Beane freed plenty of cap space to get a couple of meaningful FA. Why is he waiting to get FA that won’t help? So far he’s been bad. Our fan base shouldn’t accept this. -
This is the type of imbecilic signing that will make it harder for bad teams to get better. Why pay a tackle that much when you’re a team with many needs and years away from competitiveness. Why would Miami give up on Tunsil and then the Texans pay him so much. Now decent left tackles will command 20 million, mostly guaranteed. When a franchise QB is getting 40+and #1 receiver and edge rushers and now tackles 20mill, that leaves a little over 100 mill for 50 players. Chances are one of those highly paid spends significant time on IR and the team can’t compete.

Suitable Edmunds Replacements in the draft
Eastport bills replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Silly thread for the simple reason that in a 2 LB configuration with so much responsibility for playing primary run defense and having underneath pass defense, you’re asking a rookie to play every down competently . Why would anyone think a 3 rounder could replace a 5year all pro . I guess the Edmunds derangement syndrome has reduced his value in our defense. If we try to shoehorn a middle round draft choice as our new Edmunds, our already suspect defense will be a real weakness. -

How can you with any degree of confidence say what we will add? Why doesn’t Beane just address the gaping holes in our roster with the best available FAs. We need a physical veteran at ILB with speed, another RB who can move the pile and pass protect, Edge rusher because Miller can’t be counted on early in the season, another safety . The #2 receiver can be addressed in the draft. If our GM is any good he should get difference makers at 2 of these needs while they’re still on the board. -

Nicely orchestrated by a couple great Bills fans. Just imagining watching the Bills with my favorite beverage with boats passing in the background. Not too bad. Little concerned with the lack of activity in FA with Rogers and an improved Dolphins team in the AFCE. -
Beane still looking to add big bodied RB to roster
Eastport bills replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Check out the teams on our schedule and factor in Rogers and the upgrades by the Dolphins. Miller is 34 and coming off an ACL. I’m not counting on him coming back 100% or being ready in September. How about TE, I know the draft is deep at that position but it just points up how many positions need to be addressed. -

Eloquently put but we’re not trying to win the off season but trying to replace crucial pieces we lost. KC and Cinn needed to revamp their O-line and got the best FA tackles. We’re just as capable of getting 2 or 3 good players as they are. Hardy was an OK pickup but he’s coming off major injury. We lost arguably our best defensive player and our 20 million edge rusher along with our starting RB. If Hardy works out, he is a slot to replace McKenzie but weren’t we trying to get deeper in the secondary and at receiver. After #27 in the draft which should be O-line, are you confident #54 or #81 will make a difference. Remember we’re chasing KC and Cinn, we should be better than last year. -

No excuses, he freed up enough money to get the guys we need. Keep making excuses for mediocrity and we deserve what we get, which is 0 for the club history SBs. -

That feeling is starting to get a lot of traction. The shame is Josh is being exposed to injury if he has to the offense. -

It’s not only the #2 RB, it’s starting LB, #2 receiver, Edge rusher if Miller isn’t ready. We’re playing defense with free agency instead of aggressively getting difference makers. -

OK, good point but guys are coming off the board that fit the description. What viable big bodied backs are eligible for release. I know of several that have just been resigned. Unless he’s looking to go RB with 27, we’re looking at a bargain basement dumpster dive tomato can. You can always count on me for up to date info. Sorry -

He signed back with Cleveland for 2.4 million. I know he’s not as big but I like him. He’s not being aggressive and he throws these wish lists out there to give fans the idea he’s got a plan. We may be in trouble with this guy. -

If he’s looking for a big bodied back why didn’t he pull the trigger on Williams, Foreman, Perine . For god’s sake D’Ernest Johnson signed back with Cleveland for a couple million. This guy thinks that these FAs will take less for the privilege of playing in Buffalo. Just go out and get Zeke or trade for someone. I’m losing confidence in Beane with each passing day. -

A scrambling GM kicking the can down the road, trying to correct the frivolous overspending on FAs, doesn’t make a top GM. So far, he’s sitting back and watching the FA pool dry up. A seriously injured Hardy, a guard from Dallas and bringing back one our own FAs is going to close the gap on KC and Cinn. Maybe overpaying the punter and a special teamer is his defining off-season move. Once again this guy is setting the stage for Josh to have to pull a rabbit out of his rear end for us remain competitive. Are we trying to win a championship or trying to mark time until we get the new stadium. -
I can’t speak for Bills management definitively, but they always said publicly how they valued the guy’s contribution and after he had his best year as signal caller in a top 5 defense, any objective observers would think they wanted him back. As an Edmunds detractor, you feel confident the Bills will be as strong at the position. Not me.
-
Sounds good, he’s got something left in the tank. How about Bush or Wagner to ease the concerns about the loss of Edmunds?
-
Let’s hope we don’t get left with the players that won’t make a difference. I think Beane has gotten us to the point of being nationally relevant, secured the new stadium and the pressure to make bold moves is off. Rather than make a splashy, cap heavy move he’s content to wait for a deal to fall in his lap. I’m not optimistic about this approach.
-
I hate to criticize Beane prematurely because he could still bring in good players but it seems like he’s not being aggressive enough. We’re chasing these teams and we’ve got significant holes. What did he free up all that cap space for? Hardy is nice player but he’s had serious injuries. The guard from the Cowboys is a good add but Poyer was here and keeping him is great but won’t make us better.
-
What is Beane waiting for to grab one of these targeted FA? He loses Williams to the Saints and Kendrick to the Chargers. It’s like he’s low balling these FAs and expecting them to cave. Let’s go and bring in some talent. The draft is not the way to replace Edmunds or get a big time back. Is it me or does this guy seem like he spending his own money.

Chances are if you live a reasonable distance from the ocean you’ll survive hurricane season but from Nov to June give me Fla all day long. I’m sure any NFL FA would concur. Now after May all bets are off. You have 4 or 5 hours to play golf or be active outdoors before you’re inside. -

Compared to the Dec/Jan Buffalo survivalist specials we absorbed, it’s pretty perfect. I know there’s been weather disasters but all in all pretty good.
