I assume your trepidation with the “if” as it relates to the O-line being dominant is shared by many. The new guards, McGovern and Torrence, with Edwards in the wings, have to be better than Saffold and Bates. You would think, Dion, Brown (with another year under his belt) and a former starter in Shell backing them up, should be at least as good as last year and our more physical rbs should provide better protection than Motor and the rookie, Cook. I am cautiously optimistic.

Beasley is polarizing with his commentary. I think he’s a tough competitor and productive if given the opportunities. We were able to maximize his abilities and now he.can move on to the twilight of his career, We are on the precipice of presenting an offense that teams will not be able to defend.. The TEs and RBs are perfect for our quick release, strong armed QB. Our receivers are multidimensional with Diggs and Davis established as top notch and Shakir, Sherfield and Hardy ready to provide speed and a vertical component. If our O -line comes together, and provides running lanes and good pass protection, look out.

Dawson Knox, 10th Best TE in NFL
Eastport bills replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Knox emerges as a real red zone machine, with Kincaid being a threat as well, how can any defense cover all our weapons? Look out for Cook, Harris and Murray to have success in the red zone with these receivers and Josh needing to be accounted for. -
The Bills offense was a tale of two different approaches that changed for the worse shortly after mid season. Dorsey, after having success with a passing attack that featured a heavy dose of Diggs , with Davis, Knox and Motor providing complimentary production. Josh’s runs for needed 1st downs and TDs rounded out a very successful offense. Then, inexplicably, the emphasis was placed on a home run happy, vertical passing game, that didn’t fit Bills personnel. The running game became Josh-centric and when the playoffs started, it was obvious Diggs was used more as a decoy and Josh was asked to pull wins out of his rear end with an underachieving O-line. It’s clear with the additions this off-season, the Bills will try to take pressure off Josh with a conventional running attack and focusing on a pocket passing game. I see major improvement if this O- line comes together and Dorsey can balance this offense while keeping Diggs engaged . Better running, receivers and less exposure to injury for Josh equals a better offense.

Random preseason OLine rankings <edited>
Eastport bills replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
How can you rely on ratings when the O -line has 2 new starters at guard and 2 new veteran depth lineman with a highly touted TE added. Could we see the new O-line play a few games before giving a rating. -
Chris Brown to start season as interim play by play guy
Eastport bills replied to Matt_In_NH's topic in The Stadium Wall
I like Brown a lot as a Bills lifer and beat reporter, but for one of the most popular and talented teams in the NFL, can’t we get a nationally recognized play by play guys to do our games for a year instead of going with this local “do it all” guys. -
Tua Answers Media Question Too Honestly
Eastport bills replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s obvious what a great kid Tua is. The cloud that hangs over him(concussion history) is scary. -
Just a question for fans that feel shame about 4 straight SB losses, how many teams in NFL history have made it to 3 straight SBs? The answer is one other than us. Those Bills were all time great teams that were clutch, resilient and really talented. The first SB should have been a W but fate had other ideas. The other 3 were remarkable in that we overcame major obstacles to just get there and met more talented teams in the big game. I’m proud of those teams and that feat in the age of FA will never be accomplished.

Playoff offense is just as much an issue as defense
Eastport bills replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Cinn. game should be wiped out of our collective psyche. This team was overwhelmed on both O-line and our defensive front. We were missing our emotional leaders(Miller, Hyde) and White and Poyer were shells of themselves. Dorsey and Frazier had bad game plans, and the snowstorm benefited the Cinn. offense with those receivers. Other than the Cinn. game, we were a good offense, although our O-line and running game were less than top level. This year, with the additions on the interior O-line and bigger RBs, look for better balance and pass protection. Our receivers are arguably as good as any team’s not named Cinn or Miami. With Josh, can anyone doubt our chances to break through. This team will be more physically imposing on both sides of the ball guaranteed. -
If Elam emerges as a shut down corner, look for sack #s to explode for our edge rushers and if Sean is truly going to be more aggressive, blitzers like Milano and Williams. These great cover corners force QBs to to look for 2nd and 3rd options. Shakir was very good as a rookie and he could cement his role as a #3 receiver. With this receiving corp, and the threat of Josh taking off requiring defenders to cover breakouts, this offense will be hard to defend. If Cook. Harris and co. can establish any type of running game look for massive point production.

Did we do enough? I think we are getting there.

The additions on the O-line and D-line are the most impactful. I see our O-line being improved with the new guards, especially McGovern and Torrence, and Shell backing up Brown. It may take 3 or 4 games to be coordinated but addition by subtraction with Saffold moving out. The running game and pass protection will be better and that will bring the best out of Josh. Kincaid, Sherfield, and Davis should all be big contributors with balanced play calling. The D-line will be better at run defense with Ford and Settle rotating with DeQuan and Oliver. Factor in Rapp and Hyde back with Poyer and White in our secondary and you have arguably the best group in many years. With Sean calling a more aggressive defense and Dorsey one year removed from being new on the job, this team is very scary. -
Josh has been hamstrung by a coaching staff that has failed to provide an O-line that could sustain a real running game. His instincts to find a way to win has made him vulnerable to turnovers and taking punishment. Dorsey has not helped with predictable play calling and too many home run balls and Josh designed runs. This season needs to be about a balanced attack with the OC taking what defenses give us and keeping Josh in the pocket more, That should keep all of our playmakers engaged and being more unpredictable.

I understand your reluctance to read longer posts. The fact that you had to criticize and lecture me on your personal reaction just seems silly. You made a comment agreeing with the main idea I was making, the rest of this is an opinion of my writing style you’re trying to bludgeon me with. It’s a waste of your time.

Cowerd can make any inflammatory statements about a team with a national following and get radio ratings and viewership. When he gets it wrong it’s just “what Colin got wrong “ on his weekly right and wrong segments. He’s trying to set up his narrative of defensive coaches can’t win in today’s NFL. The problem with this reasoning is that the OC and QBcoach along with the offensive coaches are responsible for game planning and play calling. When Shanahan was OC before taking the SF job ,did it matter who the HC was with respect to the offense. When Dabol called plays for Sean it didn’t affect our Offensive success. The idea that the personnel moves on offense is adversely affected by a defensive coach is also ridiculous because Beane makes personnel decisions.

You bring in bogus negativity and qualify it by saying there’s pertinent elements, don’t expect a pat on the back.
-
You’re confusing being defensive and angry for being less tolerant of shock value commentary that is designed to diminish the achievements of a team that was built to compete for as long as Josh is a Bill. I mean why would you give credence to an unknown Bills hater who offers up a prediction of abject failure by one of the elite teams in football. Poor reasoning, a serious lack of preparation in knowing personnel and an ill conceived optimistic perspective on unproven teams, is not a reason to doubt a known entity and a 3 year division winner, who finished 13 and 3 just last year after being decimated by injuries. These predictions don’t deserve serious discussions.
-
Why would you dignify that nonsensical crap by making a thread out of it. This unknown sorry excuse for a NFL contributor is proud of his groundbreaking prediction but unfortunately all his reasoning is flawed. First, his assertion the Bills haven’t added talent is just silly. On defense, Floyd,Ford, Rapp, Williams,Dantzler not to mention the return of Hyde, Miller. On offense, McGovern, Shell,Edwards, Sherfield, Murray, Hardy, Harris and Kincaid. Why is this unknown qualified to say how good our running backs will be? How does he know Tua will be good enough to win a division? Does he know how the Jets , who haven’t made the playoffs in many years will overcome their O-line issues or their #1 RB coming off an ACL will play. Aaron Rodgers is an all time great, but he’s 40 on his next birthday and gets hurt every year. Give me Josh any day and always respect the champs until someone vanquishes them.

I think your affection for Dak is messing with your objectivity. First, he’s desperate to get a contract and by blowing smoke up Dak’s rear end, he figures it can’t hurt. He’s openly lobbying for a spot on the Cowboys on social media. By comparing Dak to Josh in the area of leadership is silly especially when Dak has underperformed in the last 2 post seasons and is generally considered the most overpaid QB in football, hamstringing his team’s ability to add talent. I know you’re not a Josh fan because anyone who’s watched Josh’s career knows he leads by his heroic performance on the field with disregard for the pain he absorbs. His teammates all talk glowingly about him and rush to his defense when he takes undue punishment. He leads by playing through injury and taking full responsibility for losses. He only praises teammates and coaches and makes it his business to organize activities off the field to build strong relationships. Naturally Cole complimented Josh grudgingly because he’s acknowledged as one of the top 3 QBs in football. If he’s trying to get a contract do you think it serves him to sound like a malcontent. Everything Cole does has an underlying purpose. His disdain for Bills fans was part of this imbecilic statement.
