  1. MLB will be a real problem for us until Dorian feels comfortable enough to take the reigns. He’s talented enough and physical enough to be impactful. I guess they prefer Dodson’s experience and knowledge of the defense, but he is not instinctual and lacks the demeanor necessary to deal with the ebbs and flows of games where his leadership is necessary and being calm in the storm.
  2. Mike Evans is not a FA and the Bucs are looking to extend him. How many highly drafted receivers do you have bring in to get one as productive as Gabe? So far we haven’t gotten one that I can remember. You’re going to have to bite the bullet and spend on a FA. Any one year deal is bringing in an injury riddled player his previous team gave up on or a malcontent. Why are you so concerned with preserving cap space at the expense putting homegrown quality on the field. To me this guy raises his game in the postseason when it matters most and this team is all about getting to a SB.
  3. I like Davis better than any vet available and I think he just suits our offense and Josh loved him.
  4. I guess you’re in the camp of thinking the worst and being pleasantly surprised. That’s fine. I can’t see how your diminishing Kincaid is justified not seeing him on the field with Josh. With our receivers getting plenty of attention (Diggs,Davis) and Cook ready to pop, I see Kincaid and his great hands and catch radius being a perfect security blanket and 1st down machine in this offense. Torrence will be better than Bates after getting acclimated to the speed of the NFL. I especially like him in the run game. Dorian, is a heat seeking missile and is better right now than anyone not named Milano as a MLB. He might not start but he will make a lot of tackles. Sean will definitely find a way to get him on the field. I’m not saying Dorian will be Edmunds, but he’ll be productive. All in all, I’m optimistic about these three.
  5. Maybe your prototypical MLB from the Butkus era can try doing something in a regular season game when it counts. Look at his production thus far. He’s just depth, not a guy who puts our starting RT out of commission .
  6. I don’t think Dodson is the guy for us in the middle. For an underachieving player to be over the top, losing his cool against his teammate, and having the leader of the team nose to nose trying to reel him in is a bad look. Beane needs to bring in another MLB and scare this guy into looking like our starter.
  7. Beane needs to watch for the cut down victims and get us the tackle depth needed because Brown’s back will not hold up for the whole season. The MLB position also needs more quality depth. The first game is coming fast.
  8. I hope you’re right, but when you factor in an average of 110 tackles a year and a steady defensive signal caller, presiding over a top 5 defense, how can you not expect a fall off with cast of underachievers(Dodson) and unknowns(Spector,Bernard). That’s not to say the addition of Rapp, a healthy Hyde and a stout group of tackles can’t cover up deficiencies. Look for how we defend the run in these next 2 games.
  9. Dalvin will help but James is a rising star and his body is fresher. Our offense will dominate but I want to see how Sean addresses the Swiss cheese run defense without Daquan and limited Ford. Let see Dodson and the other LBs look reasonably competent against Pitt.
  10. Well said, sadly the brain trust is glossing over a position that averaged 110 tackles and called the defensive signals. God help us if Milano goes down. AJ Klein could probably handle the mental part, but the physicality, tackling and closing speed to cover the underneath crossers he’s not close to what we had and neither is the other applicants.
  11. The question is whether that happens before he hurts too much. If Dorian plays the next 2 preseason games like the first, he will be a better option in 2 LB sets with 5 in the secondary.
  12. Very troubling prospect of the options available to replace Edmunds. Dodson, Bernard and Spector just haven’t shown instincts, closing speed or the physicality needed to protect the 2nd level on runs or underneath receivers. I know Beane prioritized edge rusher (Floyd) over the MLB available in FA, but AJ Klein seems like our best option over these young guys, and that is problematic. When do we admit that maybe Dodson isn’t the heir apparent to Edmunds?
  13. Dorian Williams looks like he can play. He’s really quick and is physical. He’s definitely an OLB that will contribute immediately. Cook is explosive and will be one of the keys to making the offense multidimensional. Murray will be a good complimentary back and be a great as a short yardage option. Basham will be a tough guy to deal with when Miller and Floyd are on the field. He looks highly motivated. On the other side of the ledger, Allen can’t be #2. He’s just not experienced or confident enough for our team. Barkley knows this offense and is a good backup. Shakir must clean up the drops because he can be a tremendous asset as our slot receiver. I like Sean as the DC. We will be more aggressive for sure.
  14. Hopkins is signed for 2 years and will be 34 when available. I understand you don’t think Gabe is worth the kind of money I called for but he’s young and improving and works well in our offense.
  15. Why do you think our options are better if he walks? A late 2nd rd draft choice or worse who takes 2 or 3 seasons to produce at Gabe’s level or a 2nd tier FA who gets close to the money I called for and has been inconsistent or injury riddled enough to be passed over by his previous team. I think Gabe’s a legitimate #2 for our team going forward, and these receivers get 15 to 20. The cap will be going up and this position group is right behind QBs.
  16. 17 or 18 with incentives making it worth 20 if he meets thresholds. That’s Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore territory but Gabe’s much younger.
  17. Gabe is about to become elite and his production the last three post seasons is enough proof to do everything possible to sign him before he hits FA. The value of getting your own draft pick on the cheap is huge. You know the guy’s work ethic, character and desire to be a Bill, along with his relationship and trust factor with Josh. Any time a GM wants to sign a player they can find the money and structure the deal to make it doable.
  18. No offense meant towards you. My issue is with the imbecilic, inflammatory declarations made by sports talk hosts for shock value. What difference does having a defensive minded HC make if you have a talented OC like Dabol or Shanahan? The fans that agree with Cowerd are not giving this offense credit for being the explosive, dominant group they’ve proven to be the last 2 years. Don’t let the Cinn. game diminish that.
  19. Why do we dignify this merchant of sensationalism and contrary opinions with a thread. He jumped on the anti-defensive coach bandwagon and is using the Reid/Mahomes and Taylor/Burrow successes as cover. Worst case scenario he just admits Josh/Sean combo is the outlier. He also blamed Republicans for overreacting to open borders and crime in big cities. He’s a successful sports influencer who will be wrong many times about various topics in sports. His opinions shouldn’t bother rational fans.
  20. No wonder Josh is being judged on the Cinn. game and some turnovers that in many cases were partially caused by him trying to overcome predictable play calling by a rookie OC. Having said that, any NFL coach that puts him in tier 2, better stay unidentified because they would look silly and be bulletin board fodder and get their team buried.
  21. Why would you question Gabe’s relevance in this offense after making suppositions related to 4 or 5 practices. The guy is a proven contributor and post season top statistical receiver. Is it that you feel a unproven Hardy or Sherfield should be ahead of Gabe on the depth chart? He will be a highly sought after receiver in FA. I see him being a crucial option in our passing.game and in his contract year, a big asset.
  22. Who takes Colin seriously?. He creates a narrative that a defensive minded coach won’t be able to beat the offensive geniuses in the league(Reid, Payton, McVay, Pederson, Taylor). Naturally, when the Bills beat the Chiefs until we gagged up the game in the final 13 seconds, and then beat them the next season, we were 1st on his herd hierarchy for most of the first half of 2022, until Dorsey struggled calling plays. Colin considered Sean one of the best coaches in the game until the Bills ran out of gas last season. If we win a few games coming out of the gate, look for the Josh/Sean combo to be featured on the “Where Colin was wrong” segment. He’s just a guy that throws a lot of sensational nonsense on the wall, hoping something works out.
  23. The 1st Miami game was played in conditions as you remember where we had our bench in 100 plus degrees and blazing sun. We were fortunate no one died of heat stroke. The 2nd game in Buffalo was a tough win but when Josh had to produce, he marched right down the field twice. The 3rd game was part of the problem this team had against Cinn. We were spent after all we went through. Those games were not indicative of this team’s talent. The Jets should be better, but with our additions on defense and at O-line, receiver and RBs, we should be improved as well. Remember, we have the best QB and Tua and Rogers have real physical challenges. Tua with injuries in his history and Rogers, being 39 and in his 1st year in a new system. Do fans think KC will be in a dog fight because the Broncos and Chargers will be much better?
  24. Homerism, dismissing teams with lesser rosters and QBs that are either 1st year with their team or one concussion away from being out of football. I don’t think so. A possibility is a nebulous, ridiculous standard for making a calculated prognostication.
  25. Losing the division to Tua or a 39 year old Rogers.who is operating behind an O-line that NFL analysts think is below average, is unlikely. Remember, we are the team with the best QB and the best defense. Why would you think these teams could win the division? The Jets have a frightening schedule to start the season. Let’s see their record thru 6 games and then start anointing them.
