Live 2024 NFL Draft thread - Round 1 (Do NOT tip the Bills pick)
Cray51 replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wouldn’t be shocked if worthy is listed as “first round disappointments” a year later. He screams gadget to start and then finding out if he can develop further -

Sky Moore was the speed guy taken two years ago who is awful kadarius toney was picked up to be the speedy first round grade receiver to be a stud ross was brought in to see if his speed could amount to somethjng in the tail end of his career the chiefs have struck out on receivers just as often as they have hit. Hill was and is an amazing player. If they have fooled everyone and found a guy of tbat talent again? Credit to them -

I’ll just say this, I was more impressed with McConkey running with the ball in his hands than Worthy when I watched them mcConkey also looks like the more natural catcher worthy has more experience with the route tree and Is is fast in a straight line -

I’ve watched the tape on Worthy, I’m not impressed. i think he has value as a gadget guy and if Mahomes and him gain chemistry, he can be effective i didnt have a top 40 grade on him -

The quality of this draft isn’t its depth. Moving up in rounds is good value for this year -

I mentioned it in a text to a friend - 33 and one of our seconds next year for Aiyuk and their second at the end of the round extend aiyuk, take your savings and draft Franklin who you love at 61 -

No historical comp showed Josh Allen would be a top QB in the league. I understand what you are saying. Bleed the chiefs dry if they try to move up. However, there are so many variables to the situation. Maybe the chiefs were the only team offering to move up? Maybe the bills are working on other deals and need certain picks to make it happen, maybe the Bills are targeting players that they know will be available later on? -

Maybe the trade we received was in fact a premium…? -

Of course I’d be upset, but not at Beane trading back. I’d be pissed if we drafted worthy to only have him get injured right away, or turns out he can’t catch the ball if the chiefs maximize the ability of him, so be it. This isn’t us trading the first overall pick. you can’t be “scared” as an NFL gm. Beane has someone in mind for our pick, and he obviously knows he will get him -

So would you prefer the Bills take worthy to spite the chiefs, but can’t use him effectively and he busts, or take someone at 28 that would have been available at 32 anyway and not move up 30 spots into the 3rd round? -

Losers focus on winners, winners focus on winning. Bills weren’t going worthy, and they obviously have a guy in mind. Get your guy and get a 3rd to either move up in the 2nd, or fill out the roster -
Gunner's 2024 Mock Draft - FINAL v3.0 NOW LIVE (p.13)
Cray51 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
@GunnerBill great job as always - any idea why WR has gone from "We may see 7 receivers in the first round" to only 5? Mitchell/Legette/Franklin/McConkey all not being selected in the first. Does that say more about the concerns of the talent, or the addressing of other needs by teams? -
Oof - the penalty for being good, but not good enough

B. Cooks - Good #2 K. Benjamin - Bad W. Fuller - Bad N. Agholor - #3/4 B. Perriman - Bad P. Dorsett - Bad J. Doctson - Bad L. Treadwell - Bad D. Moore - Low Tier #1 C. Ridley - Low Tier #1 M. Brown - Good #2 N. Harry - Bad C. Lamb* - Mid Tier #1 J. Reagor - Bad J. Jefferson** - Top #1 B. Aiyuk - Mid Tier #1 K. Toney - Bad R. Bateman - #3 with Potential So we have: 1 Top Tier #1 4 Mid/Low #1s 2 #2s 2-3 #3s 8 Bad To be fair, in the last few years the results have been better: Since 2018 Draft: 4 Mid/Low Tier #1s 1 Top End #1 1 Good #2 1 Good #3 with upside 3 Bads So really the tweet is a little misleading. In the past 5 drafts, teams in our position have found a #1 WR 50% of the time. With this class being deep, the chance of that hit only goes up. Is the risk there? Of course. But I'm not scared about picking a WR at 28. If Beane had a guy they want, they need to go after them. -
The question is dependent on two things. 1) am I able to complete passes like a shovel pass to a motioning receiver? That’s really the only pass I think I could complete. 2) is the teams goal to win the game or for me to complete a pass? I can throw the ball 20-30 yards downfield with decent accuracy, but I have no reference to the timing of an NFL play. I don’t think I could judge a corner/safety/lb in zone coverage. I also think if someone as bad as one of us was behind center, the other team would bring a heavy set in and drop everyone within 5 yards of the line. Zero blitz all day and none of us could process and develop a rhythm to complete a pass. I’m not small (6’2), in decent shape, and can throw a bit. However, so much of the QB role is pre snap, and then just insanely fast reads real time. Then the athlete part comes into play. if I can shovel to a wr? 1-5 passes. If the goal is to complete a pass PAST the line of scrimmage? Zero. And I’m comfortable knowing I’m correct

In the playoffs, Kelce went 32 catches on 37 targets for 355 yards and 3 TDs. He elevated his game because he is still absolutely a top 20 receiving threat in the league. His regular season wasn't great, but he turned it on when he needed to. Just like most Chief's players did. I dont disagree that Allen will likely have 4,100+ yards to end the year. I'm just thinking, when the playoffs come around, can our talent at the WR/TE positions elevate like a Kelce can?

Buffalo Bills QB3 - Sam Hartman (QB, Notre Dame)
Cray51 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't like him at all. I just dont see the ability to throw at the NFL level. Would stay away -
And Poyer was given a higher guarantee on his last extension to convert 4.85 of bonus to guaranteed money in 2023... They stuck with White through his first ACL tear and supported him even though he took 1.5 years to come back... I dont hate any player for getting what they want either. But to say loyalty only goes one way is a disrespect to how Beane has handled this organization. They are some of the best player forward orgs around. Nobody is perfect, but they do a great job taking care of their players.
-
Outside of Kincaid and Shakir, no one on team is a good sure handed receiver.
-
Totally understand that, and I really like Kincaid. But there is a very very small chance Shakir or shorter get to #1 receiver level
-
I don’t fault anything you are saying (although I think saying us getting Diggs and not winning clearly shows a top WR isn’t our problem is a bit simplistic). The Bills still have a top 6 roster in the league. They carry a top 3 QB, a top 7 RB, top 5 TE room, top 10 O line, top 7 LB core, and top 12 dline. They need secondary, which McD and Beane have shown to be able to bring in above average talent without investing high draft capital. Their WR room is bottom 10 in the league right now, and if they bring in a top 3 draft WR they fix a bad spot on their roster. Along with that, they potentially have a cost controller superstar talent, when as you mentioned they have a potential cap squeeze over the next two/three years. WRs are becoming the third highest position in football behind QB and Dline. Getting 5 years of cost controlled #1 WR play? I think if Beane believes he can get it, he will go for it

Tom Brady picks the next QB to win their 1st Super Bowl
Cray51 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Brady is an all time competitor. He likely sees the way Allen isn’t afraid to lay it all out there to win, along with his ability to elevate those around him and respects the hell out of it. -
I understand what you are trying to say, but every Super Bowl winning team in the last 5 years HAS had a top 10 receiving threat in that season (Kelce, Kupp, Kelce, Evans, Hill) and, no team that has made the Super Bowl in the last 5 seasons has had a little surrounding talent then what the bills have right now without Diggs. the situation is clear. WR room is lacking talent on this team, and there are 3 high end potential top end #1 WR prospects in this draft. in addition, the concern of not being able to field a strong roster if we mortgage picks to move up is in my opinion a controllable risk. One of Beane’s best abilities is to utilize several avenues to field NFL capable talent across the field. One of his big criticisms? Bringing in superstar talent. does Beane moving up for a top end WR guarantee any success? No, of course not. But if he does move up does it give us more autonomy in selecting the right WR to potentially put us to the promise land? Yes it does. we will have to see what happens on draft day
