No, Josh on Pat McAfee said Diggs was voted C.

Diggs is more than a C in my book. He's an A+

    No Milano

    Was he a Capt previously?

Just assumed he’d be one given his skills.

Has anyone actually ever heard Milano speak? Like, does he speak? I'm not saying one has to speak to be a captain, but speaking kind of seems like a part of the job.

Sorry don't pay too much attention in the offseason or pre-season.  Yes free agency and read up on the Bills picks in the draft, but that's all.

I already had 12-5 as the expected record and a 1 or 2 seed.

Now I'm reading division up for grabs and a dogfight to make the playoffs.

    What did I miss?

You're going to want to make sure you're seated and have a strong drink in hand when you get to the Bills / Steelers Preseason Week 2 Thread.

  3. When I played JV football, we had a coach that talked about "The Turk." But his "Turk" was that voice in your head that tells you to take it easy, loaf around, watch TV, and be lazy.

Disappointed that this thread wasn't posted by you, coach.

  4. Could the story here be less about Elam and more about Benford being a gem of a pick? But I don't know anything so don't listen to me.

Also, passing league. CB depth is good, right? Or would you rather have Jamarcus Ingram out there? (I know he had a nice little int today). Or worse, Cam Lewis?!

No, no. Give me Elam as CB 3/4 and say, wow, that Benford kid keeps surprising!

I'll say what I've said before, and get flamed for it.

I think Allen is the problem.

Yes, Allen may be the best weapon in the NFL, but if he is, it's because he runs around back there and sometimes takes off for big gains.

Allen is not the best quarterback in the NFL.

If he were the best quarterback in the NFL, I'd agree, he needs great protection.   But if the Bills want to take advantage of his running, they need lineman who can block downfield, and that's what they have.

The problem with the Bills is not that they can't protect Allen.  The problem is that Allen doesn't do what great quarterbacks do, which is to release the ball quickly and accurately to the receiver who is open.   That's what good QBs do.  They have high completion percentages because they take and make the easy throws.

Allen is not patient.   He isn't willing to give up on a play and take the easy throw.  He wants the chunk play every play.   Good quarterbacks take the chunk play when it's there and take the easy throw when it isn't.

Either his coaches are failing him, or he's failing himself.   His future, if it's bright, is as a pocket passer, and he's wasting his precious time on the field by trying to hit home runs every play.  The best quarterbacks take what's easy.

I think there's merit to this. Josh needs to protect himself from Josh.

We've seen Josh play QB like Brady and Manning: reading the defense pre-snap, getting it to his hot reads quickly, and waiting for the perfect opportunities to take shots. He's done it. He has shown he's more than capable of doing it.

But other times—for some reason—he just doesn't do it.

Josh has to evolve. Has to. And he knows it. He's said as much. But, will he? That's TBD.

And here's the thing—when Josh does read the defense and gets the ball out quickly the o-line starts looking better. It's give and take. Yes, the o-line needs to help Josh but Josh also needs to help the o-line.

Life in the NFL comes at a team fast. For most of the summer, I felt really good about the offseason additions. Saturday was concerning. I think the Bills will still be good this year and be a playoff team. And if you're in the playoffs, you've got a shot. But, man, there's a part of me that feels like maybe the wiser move would have been to take an intentional step back this year to get younger and free up cap space for the next couple of years.

I agree this sounds like a decent approach in theory, but where were there cuts that could be made to accomplish this?  The only think I can think of is maybe passing on re-signing Poyer?  Unless you wanted to consider cutting a guy like Von already and taking a huge cap hit?  I don't follow the dollars and cents side of the team, so I have no clue how that kind of approach would play out.  Anyone up for presenting what a minor rebuild this past season might have looked like?

    100%

I have no idea how they could have accomplished that, which is why I'm not an NFL GM and give no illusion that I know the first thing about building a long-term competitive team.
