QB is not on top of the 'fix it' list
rocketbills replied to rocketbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
just thought i would add this too. the bills are running a brand spanking new off. this season and those things take one, sometimes two seasons to gel and come together. also, to those of you complaining about JP not throwing slatns to his recievers the way the packers were.....do you think JP calls his own plays??? he can only throw the ball to the recievers who run the routes that the coaches tell them too!!!!! as long as he is not forcing the ball into coverage, i'll take 100 yds, 1 td, and a win any day of the week!! -
someone posted earlier that JP sucks based on his having 56 yards passing at halftime. nevermind the fact that the coaches on had him drop back 12 times to throw the ball, two of those plays resulting in sacks. the game plan was to run the ball and try to hit a big play or two witht eh passing game. on the first attempt at a big gainer, royal dropped a perfect pass from JP where JP bought time with his legs in order for royal to get open (something most qb's could not do). on the second attempt, JP had to step up in the pocket twice to avoid pressure and his toss to evans was about two feet under thrown as a result of being rushed. if the O-line was even AVERAGE, jp would look like a decent starting qb at this level, if not a very good one. if the Bills don't draft O-linemen with the first three picks in teh draft, it will be an absolute dissaster and the mockery that is the buffalo bills organization will continue. sorry if i am just pointing out the obvious but to those who are too blind to see it, the bills have many problems and the quarterback isn't even close to being on the top of that list.

hey. i appreciate that you are willing to be honest and blunt about JP when you know you will get nailed for it. i don't agree with you but i respect what you have to say. however, i don't feel like its fair to judge JP based on the saftey in the endzone or the last drive against the jets. if you watch the reply of the saftey, once again the bills line let the defense come in untouched and losman was able to dodge the first guy who got to him but not the 2nd. i think that 75% of nfl qb's would have gone down with the first man. also, jp never got out outside of the pocket. he never had a chance. his choices were to either take teh saftey or throw the ball away which would have been a saftey too. i am just glad he didn't force the ball into coverage and give up 6 easy points. and as for final drive against the jets, i don't know how many qb's would do well with the wind blowing around the way that it was and with the rain comming down in sheets. just my two cents though. i'm just glad the coaching staff has not given up on him yet. if his to's drop and if the blocking gets better, the bills will be fine.......

here is something i'm gonna throw out just to try and put things into perspective a little bit. i don't really care if JP is a boom or a bust. i just want to see the bills get back to the glory days and i will go on record as saying i feel much more comfortable with the direction the team is headed in now under the new mgmt. as opposed to mur'lack'y and company. peyton manning went 3-13 during his first 16 starts. yes, that happened to be his first full season also, just in case you were wondering. i know JP is now in his 3rd season but how much do you really think he learned sitting on the bench in year one? real game experience can not be replicated and as far as I am concerned, JP has the 'on field' experience of a 2nd year QB, not a 3rd year. back to peyton- his rookie season, or his first full year as a starter, he threw 28 interceptions. over the course of his first 3 full seasons as a starter, he tossed 58 interceptions and fumbled the ball 14 times. I will go ahead and say that his teams went to the playoffs during his second and third full seasons as starting QB. Will JP be able to take Buffalo to the playoffs next year (2nd full season as a starter) and the year after (3rd full season as a starter)? that remains to be seen. but i do think the kid is showing promise and until he has atleast 20+ games under his belt, I am not going to judge him one way or the other. In closing I will say this. this is the first time I am 100% happy in a season post-bledsoe that Drew is not still behind center. or holcomb for that matter. JP is saving several downs each game playing behind an average O.line with his scrambling ability. I love the kids moxy, but I do admit I need to see more development and maturation before I anoint him the next great bills starter. but as he is the bills QB for now, i am backing him 100%. ok, sorry for the rant. just some random thoughts on the bills qb situation as it stands right now. Go bills!!!!!

i didn't think we had a chance to win the game but it had more to do with the wind and the rain then it did with JP. throwing a wet ball into the wind is probably one of the hardest things for a quarterback at any level of the game to do. any time you have a wet ball, especially when you are trying to put some zip on the ball, you have a tendancy to press a little and throw it much harder then you normally would. this causes the ball to be thrown a little lower and wet balls thrown hard usually come off at an angle as well. i do not fault JP for that last drive at all. if its a clear, dry day, i think we very well may have been able to go down and score. probably not because of the lack of time, but still there would have been more of a chance. thats my two cents on it atleast........all is not lost, long season ahead boys. GO BILLS!!

he throws two dumpoffs to willis.....the first one was designed you bum!!! and on the 2nd, if you tivo'd the game, go back and look when they show the overhead shot of the replay. all the wr's were covered!! the guy can't be superman...geez, you guys are just..wow....
-
hahahhahah. nevermind the fact that the ball is slippery as hell making it hard to throw a tight spiral. have you ever tried to throw a wet ball before? how about try it against nfl coverage?? you guys are bums. change teams and go pull for a quarterback who is a media darlin' like the manning boys. you make me sick.
-
dude, i'm a bills fan. i don't complain anymore. football is football. we went to 4 straight superbowls and to the playoffs multiple times in the 90's and once again in this decade. thats more then a lot of teams can boast. i'm willing to sit back and watch and wait and appreciate what they have given me. again, you can go pull for a team that is better now if you want.
-
then change teams and go pull for a real winner!! you can pick any team you want. the colts??? jags?? perhaps you want to be a bengals fan now??? no one will stop you man. i don't care if the bills are never an elete team again. each offseason, thinking that this might be the year, is enough for me. i am not a bandwagon fan and i never will be. you can try it out if you want....
-
hold them to three. score a TD and kick off with 3 min left in the game. quick three and out and go down and win on a field goal. its never over. and its gonna be a long season. i hate to see everyone get so down. i guess faith ran out the window along time ago around these parts. go bills!!!!

the bottom line: buffalo gave up 7 points in the 1st half when it was our starters vs. theirs. yeah, i think i'm pretty OK with that..... -

it's refreshing to read a post like that. and i agree with you 100%. to me, the fact that the D played so poorly or that we didn't have a lot of rushing yards is not reason to raise the red flag. this is a team playing in a BRAND NEW scheme with several new/young players and also, no teams show all of their blitz packages in the preseason. the fact that JP looks much better so far this year then he did at the end of last season is reason enough for me to be positive about this season. we will get better each game and we will finish stronger then we started. rome wasn't build in a day..... -
the D will get better each game and the running game is doing ok so far. how many teams do you know run more then they pass in the preseason?? not many, if any......be positive man!! JP may be asked to do more this season then we think and I for one feel like he is going to be the real deal and that he can carry more of a load if need be......

Thoughts on last nights game
rocketbills replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
all we can do is speculate as to why the D looked and played so crappy tonight. i hope it has a lot to do with the team playing so many young/new players and the new scheme is still a work in progress. i do fully believe, however, that with each game they will get better. it may be painful at first but we all know that we are still in a rebuilding process.... -

the D. did look pretty pathetic except for a handful of plays. that said, they are playing in a brand new scheme and until they come together and the 'tampa 2' is something they know like the back of their hands, there are going to be massive holes all over the field and opposing O's are going to exploit it. i do expect the D to be lightyears better then how they played tonight by week 4 or 5 of the season. also important to remember is that the bills will unleash a variety of different and more complex blitz packages then what they showed in the preseason. -
food for thought: jim kelly's rookie year: 22 td, 17 int Jim would go on to total 19 and 18 interceptions in 4 seperate seasons troy aikman's first full year as a starter (1990) 11 td, 18 int payton manning's first year (1998) 26 td, 28 int 2001- 26 td, 23 int brett favre's 2nd full year as starter (1993) 19 td, 24 int eli manning's first 25 games as a starter: 26 int, comp.% 51.6% the point of my post is just to throw out some stat's from some of the greatest qb's to ever play the game along with eli manning who most experts believe is a great up and comming talent. i know that jp will be hung out to dry after throwing a second bad interception in two straight pre season games, but he is doing no worse then the qb's who are mentioned above. this season is going to be his FIRST FULL season (at least i hope) as the starter and he is going to have his growing pains. he may or may not pan out, that remains to be seen. but i think he at least deserves one full season to show that he can progress, learn from his mistakes, and get better with each game. and my gut tells me that you will see marked improvment as the season wears on, especially if you mark the season into four equal, four game 'mini seasons'. all in all, he has a lot to work on and he is no where near a probowl caliber level right now. however, from watching his action these last two pre season games, it is very clear that he does posess a great amoung of talent for the QB position in both arm strenght, general accuracy, and athletisicm (this part can not be teached). as long as he makes improvemtns in terms of his decision making from week to week this season, i am very happy having him as our starting qb for 2006. a bigger concern to me is the play of the O.line and our secondary and i hold the same standards for those players as i do for jp. i expect the D. as a unit to improve from week to week and quarter to quarter. the bottom line: for this years team, the sky is the limit. the quicker the team comes together and plays smart, mistake free football, the quicker we will turn the program into a winning organization. it WILL happen.....the question is, how long will it take?? go bills!!!! FYI: you can find my quarterback stats at http://www.pro-football-reference.com my appologies for not running spell check, i'm going back to the game!!
