Haw many want Drew as the starter next year?
Yoho replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In case you didn't see this- fans in Houston yesterday were booing David Carr and calling for, yes, you are hearing me correctly- Tony Banks to replace him. Marv Levy said it best - "if a coach listens to the fans, soon he will be one". -
Haw many want Drew as the starter next year?

What is so absurd about this is that I don't know what the options are. I would like to see Losman play a little more before I hand him the job. He could Ben Rothlisbfffrrarrar or he could be Ryan Leaf. We dont know yet. I have no clue who our veteran options would be, so if you are asking me if I want Drew, Rob Johnson or Todd Collins, I will take Drew. If my options are Michael Vick or Bett Favre, bench Drew, but saying that "anybody" is better than Drew is absurd. Vince Ferragamo anyone? -
Nice job IndyJay. We are all entitled to our opinions here. That is what this is all about. But I just ask people to recognize most of our opinions are just the rantings of frustrated fans and not based on much in the way of expertise. We have built a nice talent base. We have proven that we have moved way up from the bottom feeders of the league. We have developed a couple of defensive play makers in Spikes and Clemens. We have improved talent wise every year Donohoe has been here. We got to watch the Bills play meaningful football up until the last on-side kick of the last game. (What were the odds of that in Week 5?) Those are my opinions. But then again, there is a reason that I have a day job and it is not working for the Bills.

The only thing that the post missed is that sometimes you need to put a draft in context of the larger overall draft. What was the overall talent level that was available? I have heard it suggested, but I have not independently verified that it is turning out that the 2002 draft (the Mike Williams, Josh Reed draft) was relativley weak overall. There are always glaring exceptions in any draft (diamonds in the rough that some team uncovered in a later round) but some years the talent is just not there. I also find it interesting that people are calling Coy Wire a bust. He is a real leader on the special teams that have made this Bills team so successful lately. I think you have to be happy to find such a contributor in the 3rd round.

I saw the Cowbell on the Intern's site of the Sports Guy on ESPN Page 2. Is he a poster here?

Our fate is in the hands of Mike Martz?

Couldn't be easier. The Dolfelons playing for nothing beat the Patsies playing for home field advantage. This is the NFL anything can happen. -
is mularky our 1st rookie winning head coach?/

Believe it or not, Lou Saban coached the hated Patriots before coaching the Bills. -
According to many here we should have drafted Steinbach. Willis was a waste of a first round pick. One that a team like the Bills could not afford. By the way, Bledsoe is done, Donohoe is a jerk and we should have hired Coughlin. I have learned all this at Twobillsdrive.

That is the best story of this string. Take solace, your Dad is the only one who experienced a Super Bowl win. Quite a gift. -

That was the game where the snow fell off the roof at the old Rockpile on top of all the fans sitting in the good seats. For someone sitting in the uncovered end zone, it was pretty funny. -
What I posted on October 5 My vote is for Tom Donohoe. He has done a good job of assembling talent. He has a good coaching staff and we have been competitive in every game and may be ready to turn things around. All of you who are ready to panic, throw out everything we have built and start over again must not have been around from 1967 to 1984 where we did that over and over and over again to no success. Most of you have a Danny Snyder attitude. The fact that most of you are ready to throw it all away without any consideration of reasonable alternatives says it all. Man, I hope the Bills turn it around so you fair weather supporters can eat your words.

Wow, Lou Saban must be like about 89 years old. Maybe he will bring back Joel Collier as defensive coordinator. Last I heard he was coaching at Alfred Tech. This is incredible, but in one way it makes sense. He coached Cookie Gilchrist, I guess he can live with Ricky Williams coming back.

I believe that was the night they interrupted the game to announce that John Lennon had died. I need to check but I believe I have that game on video tape. My brother bought one of the first VCR's and I think I may have that game. -
You know, posts like these are unbelievable. Of course, we have had bad draft picks, EVERYONE has bad draft picks. These arent even particularly good examples. These are post first round picks that are contributing. Coy Wire is an excellent special team play, Ryan Denney has turned into a servicable 3rd D end. The only one better than these is when fans go back and find every better player selected after your teams pick and declare that the GM is an idiot for not drafting the player. Be real folks.

The players appear to be listed alphabetically rather than by starters and reserves.

It was a lot of bad management combined with Ralph's instincts at that point to keep his wallet in his pocket. Harvey Johnson may have been a sweetheart of a man but as player personnel director, just check out most of the drafts between 1964 - 1980. Stew Barber was a great offensive tackle, but as a general manager, he didn't have a clue. The only good coach we hired in the 60's and 70's, Lou Saban (twice) had a Rick Pitino type need to change jobs every few years. Chuck Knox came in the late 70's and started to build something, but he wanted to sign every vet in the NFL as a back up and Ralph rebelled and Knox left. It is why I am a little more patient with Donohoe and Modrak than some of the younger fans who only remember the glory years. I have seen bad management, this is nowhere close to that. -

The year is 1968, just 2 years since we played in our 3rd consecutive championship game. Our quarterbacks are the veterans Jack kemp and Tom Flores (who we traded Darryl Lamonica for). In pre-season, the Coach is upset by the play in an exhibition game (as pre-season games were then called) and ordered a full contact practice. Kemp was hit, went down and was gone for the year. On opening day against the Raiders, Flores goes down early and is gone for the year and the Bills lose 48-6 in Buffalo. The Bills are left to play with Benny Russell, Kay Stephenson and Dan Darragh. Eventually they all get hurt. The second last game of the season is the 1-11 Bills versus the 10-2 Raiders in Oakland. Because of all the injuries the Bills have to play WR Ed Rutkowski at QB. Amazingly, we hang in the game and are down 13-10 and have the ball on the Oakland 1 with little time remaining. The Bills call a quarterback keeper and as Rutkowski heads to the end zone, he is hit and fumbles and the Bills lose. I was broken hearted. However, if Rutkowski had made the end zone, the Bills would have lost the #1 pick in the draft and been stuck with Leroy Keyes from Purdue instead of that OJ kid from USC. And there has never been a more exciting player in a Bills uniform than the Juice. Too bad about all that other stuff. -
Steelers to sit most starters vs. Bills...
Yoho replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now, you really have me curious. Do you teach at the school or just coach? I find it interesting that you call one of your opponents "pathetic". My guess is that you are probably a pretty good coach and that you connect at some level with the kids. Just wondering what values you are trying to instill. -

I award you 14 macho points. Creative use of the word "chickenshits". Do you teach these kids as well as coach them? Do you tell them to "beat their asses" or else they are "pathetic chickenshits"? What subject do you teach? Just wondering. -
Unfortunately, the NFL is all about reads, blitz pickups and breaking off paterns. I can picture this guy getting hit in the back of the helmet as he misses his read and runs his pattern. I love this guys talents too, but there was a reason he went undrafted and unclaimed when he was on our practice squad. But he does like to play golf.

And you wonder why? He got something like a negative 6 on his Wonderlic. This actually came from the Arkansas web site. It is a little profile about Jason with his answers. It is a little scary to say the least. INSIDE INFORMATION: He came to Arkansas “because I like it.” Something you may not know is “I play golf.” A good deed or off-the-field accomplishment he is proud of is “I play golf.” His favorite part of being a Razorback is “playing football.” Within the next 10 years, he sees himself “coaching.” The person who has been his biggest inspiration is “my mom.” In three words or less, he describes himself as “wild.”

I love these guys who rely on stats and totally ignore other factors, like, the weather. In a shocking surprise in the games where it has been really cold or really windy or really windy and cold, the Bills defense has looked great and the Bills offense has struggled. Amazingly, in Miami, on a beautiful day, the Bills offense was great but the defense was suspect. Then these geniuses, pull out the stats and make proclamations about who is effective and who is not. Anybody who sat through the Arizona game is not surprised that passing stats were pretty anemic that day. It was tough holding onto a cold beer much less a football.

!!WHAT!! tha motha-bleepin bleepedy bleep
Yoho replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is easy. A 12 yard completion when it is 3rd and 15 results in a stat that says 1-1 for 12yds with 0 int. Get enough of those and you get a nice quarterback rating. It also helps that every time there is a pass rush you go into duck and cover mode. No matter what you might say about Drew. You can't question his courage in the pocket. -
By the way, you might be surprised that I play golf too.
