I am aware of all of the speed #'s for Diggs.........and yet he isn't a great deep ball producer in his career,  he isn't a great YAC producer and he's a low ypr receiver(with the exception of the aforementioned 2019).

All of those things contradict his "speed" numbers.

His 2018 was one of the strangest 100 catch seasons ever.........he BARELY reached 1,000 yards with a minuscule 10.0 yards per reception average.

As a baseball fan you would understand the analogy...........but singles hitters Wade Boggs and Ichiro Suzuki were considered the best BP HR hitters on their teams........and yet hit very few in actual games.

They were so good at hitting for average that it wasn't deemed worthwhile to detract from that part of their game.

That is how I see Diggs.     His game is short and intermediate domination.

I've kicked around the idea in this thread that maybe Sanders allows the Bills to use Diggs deep more often.........but Diggs is better at what Sanders would be asked to do so it's not necessarily a net gain.

IMO the notion that having 3 receivers who are all best in the short game is one of those ideas that doesn't translate well to the field.    I do believe in the "basketball team" formula of building a WR corps.   It is best to have players with different skills that complement each other.

You mean while his QB is freaking Kirk Cousins? No *****.

  2. CB should have been on there instead of WR.

We got pretty lucky and caught 4 teams towards the end that were starting to collapse. I’m not expecting 13-4 this season. 11-6 sounds right.

According to adjusted team DVOA (offense and defense) the Bills finished second. Their record was not a fluke. Given this is the same team with a few minor upgrades, there's no reason to expect a 6 or 7 seed in the AFC.

    2021 schedule:

    Vs. MIA - W

    Vs. NE - W

    Vs. NYJ - W

    Vs. HOU - W

Vs. IND - L (have to put Ls somewhere)

    Vs. ATL - W

    Vs. Car - W

    Vs. PIT - W

    @ JAX - W

    @ KC - L? I don't want to write this

    @ MIA - W

    @ NE - W

    @ NO - W

    @ NYJ - W

    @ TB - L

    @ TEN - W

+ Possible 17th game. Who else are they losing to here? NO with Jameis? Maybe one of MIA or NE. Maybe TEN if they don't need that last game. I think 3 losses is a good bet.

I think a lot of people look at Diggs’ combine 40 time and think that he isn’t fast enough. I personally think that’s ridiculous given that he is always one of the fastest players on an actual football field and gets behind guys routinely. I mean, the guy averaged 17.9 ypc on 63 catches (with a long only of 66, so the stats aren’t skewed) in 2019.  And in fact, in 2016, he had the fastest measured time in the league with the ball in his hands: https://247sports.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/Article/Stefon-Diggs-fastest-player-in-NFL-Minnesota-Vikings-48715901/. Point is, he is a LOT faster than you are giving him credit for.

Yeah, the "Diggs isn't fast" angle is one I truly don't understand. Sanders is still explosive off the line, and still fast. Not John Brown fast but though he excels against zone, he can still toast guys on man coverage. Beasley is extremely quick, perfect slot guy. We don't need a Tyreek Hill. I don't even think we need a TE after Hollister, who is basically Lee Smith+ (not as good a blocker, obviously, but still good at it and can do other things, too. I expect an improvement from Knox. My biggest want (and it isn't a need) on offense is a receiving back like James White, Aaron Jones or Alvin Kamara. And an upgrade at either guard position, while I'm at it.

  4. I would say he's probably done if he hadn't finished second for JJ Watt and is checking in on not insignificant FA Edge guys, like Adoree Jackson. Yeah, you check in on guys as your job, but why would you check in on guys you already know are out of your price range?

I think we end up signing Richard Sherman once he accepts he's not getting what he thinks he should get, while drafting a CB pretty high up (who better to learn from than one of the smartest DBs to ever play the game). I'm not sure where we go with Edge but I don't think a top 3 team is pursuing JJ Watt and then, after losing out, saying "f it, let's give Addison a pay cut and call it a day"

I wouldn't rule out a trade but they might be waiting for the Allen contract to settle so they have a concrete number to work around. Josh deserves to get paid but I do hope he takes a bit of a discount so we can continue to surround him with a good team.

When John Brown signed with the Bills, I thought we were getting someone that was going to take the top off the defense, that never really happened.  Brown was more of a intermediate guy.  Byrd is an outside WR that knows how go deep, something that is harder than it looks.

Byrd played with NE last year but actually started his career in Carolina.  He does kick returns, punt returns, and then plays outside WR.

McKenzie is decent, but I never liked the fact that he couldn't line up outside and beat his man one on one for a game changing play.  Byrd can do that, and did do that.

The problem with the Bills WR corps,  as I see it,  is precisely what people call it's great strength........that they have 3 guys that excel in the same areas.......specifically snapping off short to intermediate routes.   Davis has more potential in contested situations down field but I'm not expecting him to be enough to change the way defenses attack the Bills.

What they have at WR x and 0 wise is a lot like having two RB's of the same speed and quickness that can't get to the edge.........it helps the defense gameplan and focus their energy on what works when knowing that they don't have to defend the entire field.

Traditionally there are two ways to naturally free up your outside WR's so defenses don't squat on their routes:

    1) Have one great deep ball WR that defenses fear enough to keep the safeties backed off.    Speed scares defenses.   Big and fast even more.

    2) Or have a great seam stretching TE who can draw the safeties to the middle of the field.

Ideally you are like the Chiefs and have both.

If the Bills want to move the ball throwing it 8-12 yards in the air all day to 3 dudes who excel at that.........defenses will gladly take their chances with that as opposed to getting beaten over the top.

You're totally right. Beasley, Diggs and Sanders all do exactly the same thing. We should have got a fast guy who sucks at running routes, like John Ross. I can't remember Diggs or Davis catching any deep passes.

  7. 1 hour ago, BuffaloBillsGospel said:

    Both would be ideal.

    Epenesa 1 sack

    Ed Oliver 3 sacks

    Jerry Hughes 4.5 sacks

    Mario Addison 5 sacks

Vernon Butler- Harrison Phillips-Star Louteleiei- Justin Zimmer- 1 sack between all of them (Star was out the year but I doubt he would have made an impact there)

This is unacceptable... Epenesa 1 sack as a 2nd rounder, he needs to be more impactful. Hughes 4.5 sacks the past 2 seasons is not even close to good enough. This has to be priority 1 right now I'd think.

Epenesa was playing like 30 pounds lighter than he did in college. He basically had to completely change the way he played and improved as the season went on. Idk how anyone could realistically expect him to lose that much bulk and just come into the league as if he was used to playing that way.

Imo this is absolutely the quality of player that we needed. Would an elite TE be nice to have? Sure, but the ball can only be put into so many play-makers hands. This offense is loaded at receiver. I think a versatile HB/TE with receiving abilities is exactly what this offense was lacking.

I feel like we have been obsessing over TE when in reality our running game is what needs to be upgraded the most.

im happy about this pick up and am excited to see what her brings to the table. Welcome to Buffalo Mr Hollister

Hollister helps with the running game, too.

This is the disconnect. Juju is very good and would have been a huge upgrade as their #2 WR (and #3 target in the passing game). Hill out wide, Kelce at TE, and Juju in the slot would have been devastating. They haven't been able to find a consistent threat at WR outside of Hill and Juju would have given them that.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm letting dislike for the guy colour my view of his talent. Him at 8 million is pretty decent.

I think this guy nails it.  I jumped to the conclusion that he was a kroft replacement but this might be more about improving the running game.  Especially the H-back stuff.  And for the record Hollister is a much better receiver then Smith was.  I've seen him make some great catches over the years.

Greg is great. You should check him out at Cover1. I'm less of a fan of Aaron Quinn but Greg really knows his *****, from players around the NFL, how they'd fit on the Bills and very intricate knowledge of the inner workings of the salary cap.

  11. Wait a sec

A lot of people really wanted Dan Arnold. Hollister is just about as good as Arnold. I'm confused why people don't like this move. Ertz would've been nice, sure, but we didn't really need an elite TE. This is the tier of TE I wanted the Bills to sign. Wanna see the number but this is very nice on the surface. Knox isn't terrible. We don't need to completely replace him on offense.

Well I knew that but that hasn't stopped people from getting paid before lol

Juju's issue is that you put up with guys like OBJ or AB because they are extremely talented and the team decides the headache is worth what they produce on the field. Juju kinda sucks so when there are tons of WRs on the market who are just as good or better making a lot less than what you're asking...well, that plus the headache isn't even close to worth it. I understand why the Ravens offered that deal, but why would the Chiefs want Juju?

Don’t doubt Allen’s awesomeness. I think this year Allen is going to put on an absolute show.

Do you understand how many total yards you're predicting Allen will throw? It's completely unrealistic. I love Josh Allen and wouldn't trade him for anyone, but expecting him to average like 350 yards per game is completely bonkers.
