Around the NFL This Sunday 11/28 (Bills mini-bye)
JY422 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills fan who has lived in Charlotte the past 2 decades. Being forced to watch this Panthers/Dolphins game is brutal. Honestly, I’m a sucker for a good redemption story and I was really hoping for Cam to ball out in his return to the QC but alas… he is simply not a starting caliber QB in today’s NFL. Watching a game with Cam and Tua on the same field makes me even more appreciative of McBean taking a chance on JA17. We are one of a handful of teams who are SET at the QB position for the next decade and I love it! -
4 Current Players already deserve to be on Bills All-time team!

well played Mike. It's all fun and games anyway. Happy Holidays to you too. Go Bills! -

Really?? Young, big, fast, great work ethic, great teammate, catches everything thrown his way. He’s got the makings just like Moulds and Stevie did. It took them a few years to become the number 1 but when they were called on they were ready. Gabe will be too. Isn’t this a “Fan Forum” discussion board? New era of dumb? Dang bro… I’m a fan just like you who enjoys talking all things Bills both past and present. On second thought, I’m a much better fan than you. I’m not all greased up with bitterness like you apparently are. Here’s to health and happiness for you and yours and a little thanksgiving miracle called “kindness.” Go Bills! -
The trouble with Bass making it is each conference only selects one kicker and Justin Tucker is likely getting the nod for the AFC. His 66yd field goal and name recognition get him in unless he falls into a slump the second half of the season. I put Diggs, White and Edmunds in that same conversation as Tucker. Name recognition and all 3 are having good seasons. I think they’ll make it again. Allen is the only “lock” in my opinion. Poyer should be a lock but we’ve heard that one before. Hyde has a very strong case as well. Knox is going to have to show out again a few more times. Voters have short memories and they ain’t voting him in for a handful of nice games to start the season. Same for Milano. That leaves out Taron Johnson who, in my opinion, warrants strong consideration but I don’t think NCB’s get voted in very often without huge INT numbers.

Chad Hall, even more impressed with him

Love this!! Pretty sure he’ll get an opportunity to be a head coach one day if he wants it. -

Haha… well, let’s just say I feel younger than my 48yrs says I am. shoot, I wasn’t trying to leave out or insult any of the former greats. Butch Byrd, Tony Green, Robert James, George Saimes, Nate Odomes, Leonard Smith, Henry Jones, etc, etc, etc. the Bills have had great DBs in the past. I’m just making the case that White, Poyer and Hyde all deserve to be in the conversation at their respective positions. In regards to Peters and Glenn… they didn’t stay Bills. I sure wish guys like Peters, Winfield, Lynch, etc all stayed with the Bills and had the kind of sustained success with the Bills that they found on future squads but… they didn’t. Trust me, I have a well of memories and a lifetime of experience as a Bills fan and all this post was meant to do was to convey my excitement and gratitude for the fact that we finally have a roster full of guys that have “all-time-great” potential written all over them. No one is putting Allen over Kelly just yet. But go ahead and stop bangin’ the drum for Kemp over Allen cause that’s a losing argument. Not one thing about Kemp stands out ahead of Allen other than longevity. again, the pessimist in me is sad that this franchise only has ever had two legit QBs that the rest of the world stands up and fears. -
I think we can make the case that there are 4 current players who already belong in the top 3 at their positions on the all-time Bills team. There are a few other current players who will likely be added to this list but their sample size is too small at this point. (Either for lack of time spent with the Bills, i.e. Stef Diggs, or because they are just coming into their own, i.e. Tre Edmunds, Tyler Bass & Dawson Knox.) here is my complete list by tiers: Tier One: (Already top 3 at their respective positions) Allen, White, Poyer, Hyde perhaps Dawkins belongs in there with the above 4 but I think he still needs a breakout year or two first. Tier Two: (current trajectory has them in Tier One with another excellent season or two) Diggs, Dawkins, Bass, Edmunds, Milano, Bease Tier Three: (young bucks who have flashed enough to warrant discussion in another couple years) Gave Davis, Spencer Brown, Rousseau, Oliver, Taron Johnson. As I think about all this it pulls me in two directions: “Optimist” wow, what a roster Beane & McD have assembled. Not only players, but coaches as well. “Pessimist” wow, the Bills have not had very many packed rosters with great players in their 61 year history. Of course, if this team is the one who brings the Lombardi to Orchard Park then all bets are off and all 53 players are elevated to tier one “legendary” status!! Legendary!

Well played

Just because Klein hits hard and makes point of impact plays in one game we have people thinking he makes Edmunds expendable. keep in mind the Bills D gave up their highest passing total of the season yesterday. That’s Mike White and Old-ass Joe Flacco doing that. C’mon people. I thought we were beyond overlooking Edmunds overall value to the Bills. What he brings to this D goes beyond his stats and eye-popping plays. Several of those big passes over the middle (especially the third and longs) would not have happened if 49 is playing yesterday. He’s too long, fast and smart to give that ish up.

Gotta keep Breida active on game days. he and McKenzie being involved on O keeps defenses on their heels. We can survive making Kumerow inactive every week.

Breida starts and plays well. moss plays his usual role. Singletary gets very few snaps today. -
How do you deep down, really feel about this defense?
JY422 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nobody is going to remember them as the ‘85 Bears or ‘00 Ravens but this is a pretty darn good defense. I feel really good about them. -
This O-line is why the Bills won’t win it all this year.
JY422 replied to JY422's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nope. There are many teams with lines playing far superior to ours. Dallas, Baltimore, Cleveland, Zona, TN, and Rams to name a few. -

Calm down? I’m sitting in my favorite chair with a smile on my face after sweeping our most long lasting rival. I’m the epitome of calm. also, you made my point for me. they didn’t even win the AFC championship last year due to their below average Oline, mush less the Super Bowl, which is what the title of this post is referring to. -

JY422 replied to JY422's topic in The Stadium Wall
No one in the AFC is better than the Bills. Although I believe the AFC playoffs will be a slugfest, I believe the Bills will emerge. However, the title of the post refers to winning the championship. I just think the Bucs, Pack, and Rams may be more than our Oline can handle after making it thru the AFC matchups with (likely) TN and Baltimore. -
Robinson probably out Sunday - if you're worried about the Jags

Bruised heel is keeping him out in 7 days? really?? -
Good to see Brady and Herbert both crap the bed in the 4th qtr of winnable games today. The GOAT and the “best” young QB give the game away while our guy plays turnover free ball and plays his best when it matters most.

Man I love this team. Big 2nd half today. The heart. The passion. Even the anger we saw today is a welcome sight. Tyler Bass is a stud. Coverage teams are great. This secondary is arguably the best in Bills history. Same with the WR Corp. (some may prefer Reed, Lofton, and Beebe. Flip a coin as far as I am concerned) Edmunds has finally started to play like the ProBowler he is and Milano is stud. The D-Line is more than serviceable and so are the RBs, Punting and Return game. Lastly, JA17 is in a hierarchy even Jimbo wasn’t in during his playing days. While I agree that it is too early to say the totality of Josh’s career will be hall-of-fame-worthy the way Kelly’s was I will point out that, at this moment of his career, JA17 is regularly discussed by national media as a “top 10 player in the NFL” and Jim’s name was never really involved in those discussions back in the day. (Those debates regularly included Rice, Montana, Marino, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Neon Deon, LT, Reggie White and maybe even Thurman and Bruce at times). All that leads me to my main point… This O-line is the one weakness this Bills team has and they are the reason I believe the Bills cannot win the SB this year outside of some kind of other-worldly string of performances by Josh and the Defense. Morse is the only consistent performer and even he is only slightly above average. I really thought this group was going to come off the bye with a “pissed-off-us-against-the-world” mentality against a 1-6 phins squad with the 31st ranked defense in the league. Instead, it took JA17 putting the entire offense on his back and willing them to victory all while taking far too much punishment along the way. Mongo and Dawkins are great teammates and no doubt they give their all for the team and ALWAY have Josh’s back but they just aren’t good enough. Williams is serviceable and it is admirable that he can swing between tackle and guard on a weekly basis. Ideally he would be a high level backup swing player. If healthy, Spencer Brown is likely going to be the best OLineman by the end of the season but that isn’t saying much and he’s still a rookie. Ike is serviceable and Ford is just a warm body occupying a roster spot. Playoff teams are almost always evenly matched and the games are usually won in the trenches. This Oline has yet to show anyone that they can be the reason the Bills are able to run out the clock during a tight game in the fourth quarter of a playoff game. Best case scenario? Dawkins rounds into the best version of himself going into the second half of the season. Brown comes back healthy and continues to improve. Williams and Mongo play above their ability as the line gels together as a complete unit. I just don’t see it happening. Which will be a shame because this is such a tight knit team and it would be such an amazing story to see this be the collection of players and coaches that finally bring a championship to WNY! Please, someone convince me I am wrong. I’ve never wanted to be more wrong about anything in sports!

Does McD have the guts to make the call Harbaugh made?
JY422 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
sure wish our O-Line would get the same kind of push that the Ravens line gets. -
What in the world does that even mean??

TIME! Time is what sets Brady apart. He’s still a top 2 or 3 player, playing the most difficult position, in the most intense team sport in the world - at age 44! Time is what clearly sets him apart from every other player wHo ever played. (QB or Non-QB). The only other player even close in this discussion is Rice but even he declined pretty dramatically in his last year or two. Brown played 9 seasons. He shouldn’t even be mentioned in the top 25. Taylor was a coke head who played 9 seasons as a difference maker and then declined a ton. Brady has done it the right way his entire career. No drama. Always taking discounts to keep his teams intact. The dude is the greatest winner in team sports since Bill Russell. As a lifelong Bills fan I have hated Brady as a player for most of the past 20 years but man do I admire what he has done and, in all honesty, I’m just glad I’ll get to tell my grandkids one day that I watched the GOAT play in person a few times.

If we have to choose: McDermott or Daboll?

Not saying he doesn’t have flaws but just curious… what are they? -
What would be the absolute best season you could hope for?

this is the no-brainer to me. I'm not saying Moss & Singletary always hit the right hole but most of those short yardage issues are because the Defense is 2 yards in the backfield at the handoff. gotta find a way to dominate those 3rd/4th and 1 plays in the trenches before putting too much blame on the RBs shoulders. Antonio Williams could very well come into play next season as well. Not saying I wouldn't love to have Harris or Sermon on the Bills next year. I just don't think that is necessarily the answer to solving the run game issues.
