  1. Kirby thanks much I always thought there is a great book waiting to be written focused on the many behind the scenes "what ifs" of various teams draft rooms over the years. I remember Bill Polian stating once he had an opportunity to land WR Tim Brown on draft day 1988 but didnt pull the trigger and he regretted - imagine Kelly throwing to Reed, Lofton and Tim Brown?
  2. Continuity year after year is the biggest key - run the same styles of offense and defense and your drafts will naturally improve because its all about players for schemes. Draft a Darius 3rd overall only to see Rex change the defense and ask him to be an overpaid nose guard freeing up lesser free agent linebackers to make plays? Move up in Rd2 to obtain a thumping MLB Ragland and now we prefer speed? etc etc etc The biggest thing I love about the new staff is they seem to be of a quality that would be in place for a long time - watch our drafts suddenly improve over the next 5 years
  3. Just a coincidence that the 2 top QBs claimed also just happened to play for the 2 greatest coaches of the era having great SYSTEMS to aid these QBs drafted in the 3rd & 6th rounds? Its a TEAM game
  4. Possibly sets up a trade of Kuonjo for a pick? Out to sandiego
  5. Hearing the more likely target is Paxton Lynch
  6. Scoring 26pts/game was too tough to handle eh?
  7. But his word is not God - far from it !! Bill Polian stated there is nobody in the draft and nobody in free agency as good as Tyrod. ANYONE who claims a QB is good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to win the Superbowl - get over yourself - that is such a thin line when factoring in so many of TEAM variables needed to win a superbowl - make the playoffs it becomes a tournament
  8. 26pts per game - get a defense !!!
  9. Exactly - its about sharing info to get a better understanding .....wtf cares???
  10. The transition tag is rarely used by NFL franchises. There are two reasons for this. The first is that the one-year transition offer is typically a large amount, which could provide the club with difficulties while attempting to keep the team's aggregate salaries under the salary cap. The other is that players often react badly to receiving the tag, because it limits their ability to negotiate with other teams and therefore hinders their chances of receiving the largest possible contract. Players sometimes counter the tag by holding out or refusing to play for the club, creating distractions and headaches for the club.
  11. Quarterbacks do not win super bowls - teams do - this is not tennis or boxing. Aikmens defense was ranked #1 and his offensive line was the best in the decade. Kellys defenses were ranked 27th It might be the dumbest thing to do in sports is to rate qbs on their wins as prime factor
  12. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2016/08/19/nfl-carolina-panthers-2016-scouting-report 9. Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott gets more bang for his buck on blitzes than any defensive play-caller in the NFL. The Panthers are mostly a straight zone coverage defense, so McDermott does not call a lot of blitzes. But when he does, they’re always efficient. The Panthers are particularly good with zone blitz concepts, where a linebacker or defensive back rushes while a defensive lineman drops into coverage. (In the Super Bowl, a zone blitz fooled Peyton Manning on defensive lineman Kony Ealy’s interception.) It’s not just third down where you see these zone blitzes. Against zone rushing teams—and especially ones with mobile quarterbacks—the Panthers love to blitz slot defenders and boundary corners on first down in order to take away outside running edges.

  14. Mike Garafolo‏ @MikeGarafolo One other thing to note about Bills' HC search: Indications are Panthers DC Sean McDermott had a very good interview with them.
  15. Just like they did when drafting EJ - select the best QB available - problem solved !!!
  16. Absolute BS - Murphy stating clear as a bell that NO DECISION has been made on Tyrod and even notes the tweet but states clearly no decision on qb been made. It makes no sense on 2 points: 1- An incoming coach might want him 2- No viable option and TT productivity and top 10 in scoring
  17. Wouldnt it be nice if the local media in all these years had established 1 contact within the Bills to provide info on days like this??
  18. Oh a killer opportunity for the franchise in the Losman draft good old Tom Donohoe didnt trade up slightly to secure Big Ben !!!!
  19. Funny how that team of 'dummies' somehow managed to finish with a top D ranking before Rex - then they suddenly became dumb? Darius (and others) was not indicating so much the defense was complex but more the ADJUSTMENTS that were made on the fly pre-snap or during the snap. These same problems occurred when he coached the NY Jets. Many adjustments were made because the offense showed looks that were not anticipated and prepared for by the STAFF in the week before the game. Nobody hated Darius antic more than me this year - but that doesnt mean his comments have no merit - especially when they jive with comments of others.
  20. Of course Bart Scott's catchy quote misses the main point/problem with Rex's scheme. 1- Darius isnt the only guy complaining about the complexity 2- More than the complexity its the constant late adjustments being made - signalling poor coaching prep during the week 3- DC's like Wade Phillips and Schwartz purposely use a simplified system to allow for faster play - and its worked well 4- Free agency causes much roster turnover favoring a simplified scheme over a complex with numerous adjustments 5- Rex's use of an asset like Darius was a huge waste of his talents - he is way more than a 2-gap noseguard (when not sitting suspension:;) 6 - Rexs scheme used corners and linebackers on delayed blitzes to get to QBs - todays league negates that with quick drops and throws
  21. Sully woulkd be serve us all if he could acquire just ONE inside source into the Bills organization and comment on his findings - instead he just sits back and fires out opinions that any of us could get at a local bar - his opinions are no more informed than the bartender at the big tree
  22. The biggest problem with Rex's Defense was a surprisingly lack of pressure and confusion on the opposing QB. You indicate its the lack of talent - it can be strongly argued that using Darius as an expensive Nose Guard rather than an attacking 330lb DT hurts our pass rush attempts. Also - much of Rex;s pass rush scheme was designed around delayed blitzes by def backs and linebackers - in todays league the QB gets rid of the ball so quickly the pressure has to come from the front 4. Rexs scheme is no longer working in todays league - thats the biggest reason to be adios.
  23. Dead money is included but some folks dont care to read - would rather post
