When will Bennett make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
jahbonas replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great talent absolutely wasted by defensive coordinator Walt Corey - should always have played on the same side as Bruce causing one or the other to get single teamed! Bennet was great and wasted -
You really liked Felser - was it because in 1985 he said draft Doug Flutie #1 overall (drafted in rd6 ) rather than Bruce Smith? Or was it when he wrote before the 1989 Bills Cleveland playoff game to start Frank Reich now because Jim Kelly cant win a big game -? When Kelly went on to throw 5 TDs vs Cleveland and went on to win 4 straight AFC championship games and numerous playoff games
-
Agree with you one huge difference - the coaching staff of Wade Phillips was far superior to the coaching offered by Walt Corey (who absolutely wasterd Cornelius Bennet's career) Good debate - I can buy the 1999 defense
-
Knox also brought along Norm Pollum - improving the scouting system and resulted in a great 1979 draft (in spite of losing top pick due to ralph penny pinchers) - followed by a 1980 draft getting probowlers jim richter and joe cribbs
-
I would look at the 1988 defense - flooded with 6 1st rd picks...players picked in top 10 of first round (4 in front 7) and then add 2 more in backfield Fred Smerlas Art Still and Big Bruce Bennet & Conlon & talley & xxx Nate Odomes, Derrick Burroughs Leonard Smith & Kazoo team was handcuffed because Marv and Ringo still didnt believe enough in kelly - even though was his 3rd year in NFL
-
Its a crime Ralph & Marv are in the HOF and Knox is not - he brought great success to 3 different teams

Myth that we traded up to 12 to grab a QB
jahbonas replied to jahbonas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes he should have - he should not have traded up to 1 or 2 and sell the farm in doing so - a slight move up for a player makes sense and doesnt give away the farm What he shouldnt have done is trade away following year's number 1 to get his qb - Losman. -
Myth that we traded up to 12 to grab a QB
jahbonas replied to jahbonas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Myth is it SHOWS/PROVES that he wants to move up for a qb - thats not true - it only proved he wanted the best value for Glenn If Beane had traded a #2 to move up to 12 - then yes that would have shown/proven he wanted to get in better position. But he didnt trade a 2nd rd pick to move up -

Big QB draft of 1983 - Miami had to settle with Marino at 28 rather than trading the farm to move up for Elway or Kelly. Eli Manning and Phillip Rivers - the poor Steelers had to sit at 10 and take the leftover Big Ben - Gee the Steelers hould have traded the 2 #1 and #2's to go up to get Eli? In 2005 Green Bay should have traded multiple 1's to get up to #1 to take Alex Smith rather than sit and take Aaron Rogers Give any QB quality line and coaching and things work out well - most 'busted' QBs are a result of that not happening -

And because (as you point out) they are not guarantees you mitigate that risk by having more of them - not less. No team in the last 15yrs has traded down more often than the Patriots - they ignore the media myths of 'superstars' and know in the era of salary cap its about getting as many quality players on cheap (rookie deals) contracts as possible... that means multiple 2nd and 3rds over a single 1 -
Myth that we traded up to 12 to grab a QB
jahbonas replied to jahbonas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes we could - and could sit at 12 and take a qb or a slight move up - I'm just pointing out the false narrative put out by wgr/media that Beanes move to 12 showed his setting up for another big move to top 3 for a qb - he just took the best value offered him -
Beane moved up to 12 not necessarily to get closer to the top of the draft - he moved because going from 21 to 12 represented the most value (2nd rd pick equivalent) he could acquire for Gordy Glenn. He may very well take the 12th pick and trade back into the 20s and get the extra 2nd rd pick for doing so and let the draft come to him. This draft is deep picking 22 & 28 and then 3 picks in round2 and then 2 in round 3 would be huge. Locking in 7 quality players for 4/5 years on cheap rookie contracts - no way you piss that away Beane didnt trade a 2nd rd pick to move up to 12. He took the best value available to him while unloading Glenn and his big contract - very different.

The value of a franchsie QB
jahbonas replied to maryland-bills-fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its an absolute myth that the QB is the majic bullet to all - maybe for fantasy football kids. Add up the playoff appearances of these top QB's the last 6 years if QB was it all: Phillip Rivers Andrew Luck Drew Brees Eli Manning Matthew Stafford Joe Flacco The only true majic bullet is a QB that can give you competent QB play at a rookie contract price - allowing for a solid team around him. Every QB needs a surrounding cast of players and good coaching in order to succeed - this idea a single QB raises all is ridiculous bullsh## -
Bills need all 8 picks in the draft to get better.
jahbonas replied to Casmo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And lets remind you a 1st round QB and the first QB taken in rd1 was EJ Manuel. JP Losman was a 1st round QB traded up for by giving up a #1. Give up picks for that and we are done -
The advantage to this approach is we build a system for a mobile QB - allowing Jackson to sit for a year and if successful we hit the NFL homerun after 1 year by trading tyrod away for a pick while moving down to a qb on his rookie deal - keeping the same system and gaining 17mil in cap

We Don't NEED Shady to Win - Look at the Stats
jahbonas replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great point and you are exactly right and should be no surprise - a running game (not runningback) is most often a product of the offensive line. Our running GAME improved when we changed our bloxking schemes - not when Shady returned or got healthy etccc. I love Shady too and is entertaining to watch but x's & o's its the lines. What millions on this board simply cant even admit is how we make these playoffs with a hard schedule...a defense often giving up 150yrds rushing...lose our top 3 WRs and a running game that went south due to poor off line coaching scheme.....our QB is most responsible for this team winning 9x in the 15 games he played in. Forget the 400 yards games...many other qb's would have given up sacks and interceptions with this line allowing pressures and no WR to throw to. Yes keeping a offense that has nothing from being an absolute disaster ( see Chargers game and Jets finale last year) to being acceptably productive is an accomplishment and should be MVP of this team -
Bills 1st round picks currently sit at #21 and #25
jahbonas replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Big Ben would have been a minor trade up and a great move - giving up 2 1#s and a #2 and a #4 is a whole different ball game - thats a nuclear bomb to a salary cap being managed - especially when what you already do have has produced a playoff team with no WRs and a very tough schedule - and may also produce a playoff win !! Our biggest weakness as a playoff team on Sunday is worry on our defensive line stopping the run and getting some pass rush - you are looking to fix the wrong issue. -

jahbonas replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are so right - the trading up for a young QB in Rd 1 JP Loseman was such a great move. Those 1st round QBs just never bust -
Bills 1st round picks currently sit at #21 and #25
jahbonas replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But trading up for a single rookie QB is a guarantee no bust either? Happens often and would kill this franchise - the bird in the hand QB you must hate just put up 9 wins and 6 losses against a top schedule and raped of his top 3 targets Your approach is what a 1 win team might do...not a team thats in the playoffs -

Two 1's a 2nd and a 4th - you just sold the farm - four quality players locked under rookie salary contracts for at least 4 years -
Available RBs? Mathews, Jackson, Banyard and....?

Did we ever get a definitive reason for the Jonathon Williams cut? Was it because he didnt want to play special teams? -
Hypothetical Trade - Buffalo and Seattle
jahbonas replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only reason to even think of moving Cordy Glenn is if our medical staff felt his ankle injuries were chronic and disrupt his career. If this team plans on having success next year and year after etccc having a top Off Line is a requirement and you dont throw away a virtual probowl LT who gives us no off field problems -
Let see 7th in the league and we decide to bench the starting right guard? We replace an injured all-pro LT with a rookie and all is good? And Jordan Mills is a wonderful pass blocker at RT? In that universe are the martians friendly? Does the Easter Bunny hang out with Santa Clause? Tell Fred Flintstone hello...

A few things when viewing ALL22 Original poster points to a hilitie about what Aaron Rogers did (usually its about what Tom Brady did on a hilite) Also ALL22 viewers should be so play by critical of evry qb in the league - they would be surprised that all QBs miss out on open WR somnewhere downfield - especially when they experience the pressure Tyrod faces behind this patch work line. Also I love the idea of throwing guys open and having chemistry with these receivers and system which are all new...but ya lets compare to Brady & Rogers who have been using the same offensive systems for a decade
