  1. I'm aware of the 1985 draft....Flutie was in no way a #1 pick overall talent...as was PROVEN when he played in the CFL for years because NFL teams did not feel he could play in the NFL (or do u think flutie would chhose to play CFL over NFL for all those years??).....Bruce Smith was chosen and became the most prolific sack leader in NFL history. Flutie was forced out of the NFL to play in the minor leagues CFL....because he was not good enough to make an NFL roster in that era of the NFL!!! Perhaps you feel the Bills should have selected Flutie overall #1...then I can see how u respect Fleser's opinion...
  2. You miss my point COMPLETELY if you point out Barkley not winning a ring. In Basketball it is VERY fair to blame a player for not winning a ring because he is 20% of the Offense & 20% of the defense !! In football...with 3 seperate 11 man units (and yes i include special teams since they missed a FG) a qb is 1 of 33 players...making it far harder to determine the outcome. You are not a Felser expert..I am from Buffalo and I read his columns daily for 25 years..... Felser's #1 Qb alltime...?? Montano..because he has 4 rings I think Elway was far more impressive and HOF material in the seasons he lost the superbowls than in the seasons he won where he just handed off to 2000 yard rusher Terrell Davis and was not even his own team's mvp....Kelly or Marino or Fouts could have won late Superbowls too if they were given a 2000 yard rusher in their backfields
  3. I agree with you 100%...the Bills under kelly often beat marino & the dolphins..but I never let those losses cloud the fact we were facing a great qb in Marino. Felser is a longtime Buffalo writer..who unfortunately also has voting ability on HOF candidates.....his biggests claim to fame was he attended every superbowl...well I could bring my pet dog to every game too but I'm not gonna listen to his opinion when he's told me to draft Flutie over Smith
  4. Exactly...the biggest difference betwwen Montana/Young and Kelly is they had Ronnie Lott as their saftey and Kelly had Mark kelsoe. Also those San Fran defenses were all ranked #1 or #2...Kelly took the #27 defense to the Superbowl TWICE....and the other defense he brought in 1990 kept his 11 man unit off the field for over an hour ! I wonder how Young/Montana would have performed while sitting watching their defenses for an hour?? One other point..Kelly went to 4 Superbowls..4 times in a row he faced the #1 defense in the league in those games !! But accoring to Larry's logic..the difference in those games was the qb position..not the offensive lines or defenses or coaching.....
  5. Larry Felser in the past has claimed the following: 1) 1985 Draft Bills should draft Doug Flutie #1 overall instead of Bruce Smith (Flutie was not drafted until 4th round or later) 2) 1989 Before Bills /Browns playoffs game Felser claimed Bills should start frank Reich over Kelly because Kelly cannot win a big playoff game. Kelly threw 5TD's that day and went on to win 4 straight AFC championship games. 3) Today..Felser does not think Dan Marino was even top10 all time in QB's. He ofcourse takes the simple/dumb approach of Superbowl wins determining a great QB. An incredible take when there is no other sport where an individual player has less impact since they never play defense. Apparently Larry feels Jeff Hostettler, Mark Rypien and Trent Dilfer and Franco Harris are better players than Jim Kelly Dan Marino an Fouts and OJ Simpson.
  6. Just keep Shane Matthews and pick a vet up for the vet minimum....accuracy accounted for
  7. Drew is slotted to take up 6 million in cap sace if he's on the roster next year (that includes bonus pro rated and salary)....if he does not play next year drew will cost us 4 million against the cap next year (accellerated unamortized bonus).. therefore..releasing drew ADDS 2 Million to our cap situation even tho 4 million is added to 'dead cap money' A trade is the same impact as releasing him...would love to trade drew to a dallas for a 4th rounder or 3rd...
  8. Being mobile is 1 part of the equation..the other (and just is important) is that Brady/Manning & Big Ben are quick thinkers...Bledsoe is as slow a thinking veteran qb that has come along. Much of it due to the fact he will not look at film now for 4 months (apparently thinks he reading of defenses is ok now)..and has done this throughout his career....thats great for his family...lousy for his football reads. Please tell me why Belichek went with a 2nd year Brady with little game experience (and not too mobile) over an 8 year veteran in Bledsoe ???? Its likely because Brady even in his 2nd year was reading defenses better than Drew was in his 8th !!!!!
  9. Perhaps it would be more clear to you this way To acquire Bledsoe Buffalo used a #1 pick To acquire Losman Buffalo used a #1, #2 #5 pick ok???
  10. TD gave up a #1 for Drew...but TD with this staff in place felt it necessary to give up a lot to acquire JP too. If they think JP is not ready to start until year 3 then they overpaid for Losman. This staff took a mobile Kordell Stewart and made him an MVP candiate for the league This staff understands how important it is to have a mobile qb and thats why they were willing to give up so much to acquire Losman. A staff like that 'tolerates' a year with an immobile slower thinking qb like Bledsoe ...until their guy gets ready...its unlikely they wait 2 years San Diego possibly makes Phillip Rivers wait...but thats because Brees had a probowl season...Bledsoe had nothing close to that here If we did not have a JP Losman then ofcourse we would stay with Bledsoe...just like if we had no Willis we would be extending Henry's contract. But the fact is we do have a JP Losman...and this staff went out of their way to acquire and pay a high price for him.....they likely will wish to use him now/soon. The immobile and slower thinking Bledsoe did nothing this year to change this staff's mind that in today's NFL a great weapon to have is a mobile qb with a strong arm. Drew is a veteran...but he is not a crafty veteran. If he had learned the game like a veteran Joe Ferguson did or a veteran Steve Grogan did then most would agree we keep the qb with the football smarts. The fact is...Drew may be as 'football dumb' as any 11 year veteran qb ever was...it would be difficult to find a dumber one. And its likely much of that occurred (or didn't occur) becuase every off season he goes back home and does not study football year round like a Kelly did ...Kelly would always got smarter with each year.
  11. Not a bad thought...especially if I can acquire thru the draft or free agency a power guard which would help Willis more. If we are going to win with either qb...we need a running game like the Ravens had with Jamaal lewis or Pitt has now with its power line. Teague/Price might hold their own at LT on a team that can really run the ball and avoid numerous obvious passing situations. Also we have a top line coach to help protection schemes...
  12. According to your logic we never would have tagged & traded Peerless price..and would not have a #1 which turned into Willis Mcgahee. Jennings should be the top LT on the market and is young to play out a long 6 year deal......let the compensation be a #2 then if the market is not there for a #1 The key for this is to clear enough cap room to allow Jennings under our cap temporarily until the trade is made
  13. In many mock drafts Atlanta is choosing a LT with their late 1st rd pic (25th)..it makes much sense for the Falcons to acquire a proven LT for immediate impact and a guy who seems to want to retire a Falcon. A 25th pick would not be Jennings..but would certainly allow the Blls to move forward drafting perhaps a top Guard to block for Mcgahee or obviously an OT. I could not see this happening if Atlanta had finished out of the playoffs and holding a top 10 pick....but they are in the playoffs and have a 'lets win now' attitude' and the pick is much later. Also the new guy there Mora will not feel burned over the Peerless price deal..he was not there......any coach with clout would push for a proven LT over a rookie.
  14. Prior to the realignment the NFL always had 5 team divisions except for the AFC Central which had 4. Occasionally there would arise a possibility that an 8-8 team could make the playoffs...and it always occurred in the smaller 4 team division. Now we have all 4-team divisions so we can expect ahead more 10-win teams losing out playoff spots to some lesser division winner. The NFL should consider this and return to the old 3 Divisions format of East West & Central with 5,5 & 6 team divisions. This would bring back that at least half the schedule is division games (making the division crown more meaningful).... No longer would you see lesser teams winning divisions Still would have 2 byes...with 1 div winners + 3 wildcards for playoffs If the Colts had stayed in the AFC East and Miami had gone to the AFC South...we would have 2 10-win teams out of the playoffs this year.... It is not a disaster this year...a 10win team may miss out just because the conference of the afc is far stronger than the NFC... Which brings up a better topic....AFC teams should play their division opponents twice...and then fill the rest of their schedule with other AFC teams. Its ridiculous that we will lose out to Denver when never having a shot at them while I played games against the Rams and 49ers.... I NEVER care that I may never see the Giants or Eagles or Saints come to Ralph Wilson stadium (I always come to see the Bills)...but I always care when annually I lose out on tie breakers to teams I never faced....
  15. Who was this "EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY"?? when Bledsoe resigned??? A big chunk of the bonus should have been a roster bonus after this season...it cost RW and the Bills millions for this mistake. Many thought Bledsoe should be cut...cut the chord and move away from this loser of a QB. Enormous amount to move up in NFL draft?? you do not understand the current draft and cap. A team picking at 10 would love to get the same guy at 13 in order to pay him LESS money. Picking up an extra 4th in the process is gravy. Remember when we had the 4th pick and could not find anyone to trade up a bit???? Nobody in the 6th thru 10 slots wished to pay 4th overall money....
  16. TD's biggest mistakes are very recent. Namely: Giving Bledsoe a big new contract which should have had much of the bonus money paid after this season AFTER we got a look at him in this system. This mistake kills us for millions when/if we cut him after the season. It also delayed the process of moving forward another year. Bledsoe will never win a road playoff game in his lifetime. Not signing LG Pete Kendall who signed with the Jets. LG has been a swinging gate for us all year...this was/and still is a need. Did we not do this because the money TD gave to Drew?? Not doing what it takes to keep Dick Lebeau. Look at the blitzing packages the Steelers employ. It was an absolute JOKE to have Lebeau answer to Jerry Gray last year. Gray should have been fird and replaced by an obvious better coach who had 30 years experience. Its business !! Gray by comparison is a babe in the woods. You think Lebeau felt snubbed by not being given full control??? Not moving up to acquire Big Ben..we needed a QB...offering a 3rd or 4th to move up 2 spots to acquire Big Ben easily could have been done. He was there for the taking..we had a great need..TD did not identify Big Ben for the talent he is. Instead we end up paying a higher price to get Losman. (I like both Losman & Evans...but they came at a high price) TD refused to admit Bledsoe trade was a mistake...the game has passed this slow-reading QB by. He has not been effective since Ben Coates retired. If he admitted his mistake..we cut Bledsoe with no cap hit. We likely are more aggressive to land Big Ben. We then still have our #1 next year, a lot of cap money...and would need a speed WR.
  17. Where is trading a CB like Clements unrealistic???? Greenbay just traded CB Mckenzie CB for a #2 and a backup QB to the Saints I;m not saying trade Henry & Clements in a package...I'm saying both should be considered trade bait because they both still have a full year under contract (making them attractive to a future team) and we have quality depth behind each one (making it acceptable for the Bills)... You tell me how likely it is that we re-sign Nate Clements next year??? Trading a Clements or Henry will alow the build to save salary cap and gain a draft pick that will help areas in greater need like Offensive Line
  18. These 2 guys should look to be traded before the deadline....mostly for 2 reasons: 1) Both have depth behind them 2) Both play dumb football Every team needs to take advantage of cheaper quality talent on their roster..right now the Bills have that in defensive backfield with the progress of Mcghee and Kevin Thomas and the surprising additions of Greer & Baker. Mcghee stepped in under Vincent last week and did just fine... umb players like henry & Clemens tease you with their talent...but in the end kill you with their mistakes....Clemens not batting the ball away in game 1...Henry missing assignments... Trade them while they still have value and replace them with smart steady players Greenbay just traded mckenzie CB for a #2 and a backup QB Playoff teams that take an injury at CB or RB will be looking to trade before the deadline...
