Chris Ellis Compares To: SIMEON RICE, ex-Tampa Bay, Denver, Indianapolis...Ellis isn't a natural end like the former first-round pick from Illinois. But he has an explosive initial step off the snap and the quickness to take a wide loop and chase down the quarterback. He has the ability to clear his feet and move laterally down the line, good hand punch to control isolated blockers and is a good leverage player vs. the run. Like Rice, Ellis seems more concerned about getting to the quarterback than doing the "little things" to improve his overall game. With his foot speed, he could see action as a linebacker in a 3-4 alignment. He will need time to develop needed muscle mass and bulk to be a down lineman at the next level. Still, there are inconsistencies in his game, most notably a motor that is not always running, along with some poor judgment, both on and off the field. Virginia Tech has failed to produce NFL-quality at defensive end since Bruce Smith in 1985 (Darryl Tapp of Seattle is another on the rise), but with his athletic ability and quickness, Ellis is worth a look early in the draft even if he's not first-round material

In retrospect doesnt the Lynch pick seem obvious?
jahbonas replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its too early for a RB unless the player is a franchise type back which Lynch is not.....when you get top 12 you must acquire players that you never get a chance of getting. Passing up an allpro DT like Tommie Harris for a wr is not the way to win football....... -
Bills 85 draft number nine bests all time
jahbonas replied to K-Gun10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The 1987 draft was not great....Bennet was done in a trade that virtually stole from the 1988 and 1989 drafts....you do not include Bennet as part of the 1987 draft......even tho he was from that class.... -
Bills 85 draft number nine bests all time
jahbonas replied to K-Gun10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1979 Draft far better 1- Tom Cousineaue - trade for Kelly pick 1a- Jerry Butler 2a- Fred Smerlas 3b-Jim Haslett Jeff Nixon Baby Johnson Butler & Haslett won AFC offensive and defensive rookies of year Jeff Nixon won def player of month as a rookie - ended up getting knee hurt 1985 both 2nd rd picks were busts Burkett and Tranawicz 3rd 3a/3b picks never started thats 4 straight picks not getting a starter -
What are you talking about? The NFL is PUSHING out of USA regular season games...this would fit right in with it. Preseason games mean nothing an Toronto fans know this....Green Bay Packers (quite a traditional team) for decades played 2 games in Milwuakee Wisc in an attempt to regionalize that team. Certainly would still want the team called the BUFFALO Bills...just that they play 2 games slightly offsite....in fact the games in Toronto would make for a great road trip for many. As a Buffalo person I care nothing for the Blue Jays...never watch their games or buy their hats etccc...However...if they played two 3-game series in Buffalo...then they'd have me hookline and sinker....buying their hats and becoming a fan of a team I could see play live for 6 games ! The same would happen in reverse in the Toronto market for the Bills if they made the required committment of regular season games just up the QEW.
-
Gee who could possibly argue with that logic...
-
If it means keeping the team in Buffalo i am in favor of moving 2 later home games to Toronto to tap into that corporate base up there. The Bills would then be the NFL team representing lower ontario and the niagara frontier. I am a season ticket holder with 4 seats and would have no problem seeing 6 games at the Ralph rather than 8 if it meant it moved the Bills from a lower revenue team to a migh higher revenue team. Its a small price to pay... Also in the name of regionalization....would love to see the BlueJays play few games in the Bisons stadium....and see the raptors play some games in the HSBC arena.....

This staff is easily the best Bills coaching staff since (at least) the Chuck Knox staff that he brought with him from the LA Rams....Ironicalyy much of this talent comes from the incredibly lucky timing of the St Louis rams breakup coupled with the Mcnally & Bobby April Holdover.... It feels good to not be so mismatched on the sidelines....ofcourse why have we always had to tolerate such poor coaching...Ralph has always imposed his own salary cap on his own coaching staff....incredibly dumb..but thats what he does

Going for it on 4th down was like admitting
jahbonas replied to Bob in STL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Belichek ( Mr God !!) had a 2 point lead and oh my gosh went for it on 4th and 1 with a 2 pt lead.....was he admitting the lead was not safe? was that poor coaching??? -
I didn't realize a guy like Dick Juaron was such an expensive hire !!??? TD was a control freak...and afraid of anyone to question his authority I grant you TD may have been limited by ralph's purse strings...but so was Marv when he hired Juaron and so was polian when he hird Levy.... Bottom line is TD hired 2 coaches who failed miserably !
-
[Five years of draft choices and free agent acquisitions is going to result in some quality players. But how about going 0-2 on hiring of coaches????? We see now how key that decision is and he whiffed on both....and did so for all the wrong reasons...his requirement was a coach who was not a threat to him...surprise surprise this led to 2 poor hires. You wish for a more fair comparison?? When TD took over we were very similar to carolina Panthers...they had the #2 overall pick and we had #4. They hired John Fox and TD chose Greg Williams...they have been a playoff team and now are top Superbowl contenders while we are on our 3rd coaching staff and hoping ofr a 500 season where we miss the playoffs for the 6th year in a row. Please save it....TD was awful.
-
There is a feeling under Marv & Jauron that the team is headed in a positive direction for the first time in years....its also easier to see what a difference a quality coaching staff makes...suddenly JP breaks thru...Willis drops 10lbs and is no longer asked to be Jerome Bettis II...we no longer empty the backfield and go 4 wides and replace Mcgahee with Shaud Willaims on the 3rd & 2's.... However lets keep in mind...Ralph's original plan was too keep mularkey & staff in place instead of cleaning house and having what we have now (we were very fortunate that the Rams coaching staff became available). Keeping a situation that everyone now admits was utter chaos last year Was Ralph that dumb?? or was he that cheap??? Thank you Mike Mularkey for clearly seeing what Wilson refused to see...that the situation he had laid out for you for 2006 was going to be a complete disaster !! Mike Mularkey is the real savior of this team by stepping down and forcing Wilson into the decision he should have made all along !!!

So Spikes will change LB spots when he returns?
jahbonas replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If its true it could make a lot of sense...Spikes is the bigger more phyisical of the 2 and after his injury may be a step slower than before....let the quicker/lighter LB Crowell play the weakside LB -
Absolutely correct...the fact that anyone would even THINK that Thurman held OJ's jock as a player is a joke... (comments about his personal life and murder aside...different topic) Its actually a decent measuring stick when reading the board to clearly see someone has no clue when they would take a 2nd rd pick..5'9 195lbs with avg speed....over the #1 pick overall..the top rating ever given by BLESTO to a college senior...6'3 212 (20 yrs before)....member of a world record relay team at USC.... where everyone of that era knew OJ was the best player in the entire league for years... What would OJ have done with a 16 game schedule and Jim Kelly at QB and andre reed & Lofton at WR >??? He averaged 6 yards a carry when his qb was a rookie 3rd rd pick...and a rookie and free agent starting on hi OL.... Please name me the last quality RB (or any) that had a rookie QB start who was drafted in the 3rd rd....and then gained 2000yrd on 6yrd/carry average when EVERYONE stacked the line....????

For the 1 millionth time...any team trading for Moulds will rip up the existing contract and work a new 3 year deal....Moulds existing contract will have NO BEARING on the trade value
-
Offensive Center,,,1st round draft choice about 3 years ago....Bills scouts liked him money - he pointed out he is still on his rookie contract
-
We should trade EM now while he still has value.
jahbonas replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the Key to being able to trade Moulds. Show teams we are able and willing to hold onto Moulds. Once teams see he will not be cut....then the trade possibilities develop. Should we trade Moulds?? its a no brainer to clear up $5million in cap and pick up a day 1 pick..... -
Moulds demands release or trade.....
jahbonas replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Moulds - Is he now a liability?
jahbonas replied to bud8andbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I fully expect Marv to trade Moulds to a contending team. Bills just have to show they are willing/able to pay Moulds this year if they have to....BUT would be open to trade as well..... Its a very thin market for Vet Wr's.....Moulds easily the best available -
Trading Moulds may be exactly why Levy has not already flat out released him. Its a relatively tight market for WR both in free agency and in the Draft. The redskins just traded a 3 & next years 4th for the SF WR. We would save $5 million in cap if we traded Moulds...it equates to cutting Moulds. It would be quite a coup if marv could pick up a 3rd rd pick and also free up $5million in cap space. Lets see the market develop as the free agent WR's get signed...hopefully we get 2 or 3 playoff teams in need of a quality veteran WR and Moulds is the only realistic option.
-
AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
5 Million for Moulds is still wayyyyyyyyyy too much, We save 3 million if we dump Milloy...their high salaries and positions they play is why they must go. We have done it your way the last 5 years...signing/drafting defensive backs (signing milloy & Vincent while Pat williams walks...drafting Josh Reed over Lecharles bentley and Lee evans over DT Tommie Harris) and it has resulted in no playoffs....
-
And likely they can be named because fans have been watching them in the playoffs - something our WR never appear anymore !!! Also they are not in the playoffs because of those WR...they are there because of the lines on their teams......often these WR have 56 or 7 seconds to get open while our WR get2 or 3 seconds due to pass rush...
-
Consistent??? what have they done in last 3 years??? How many playoffs?? how many problowls ??? How much salary??? This league wins with top lines and average/lower paid skill players !!! Nate is a no-brainer since we likely could do a tag n trade of some sort as well
-
Is this Tom Donahoe posting here???? Learn your lesson from the current Superbowl team Pittsburgh Steelers. Last year they allowed WR Plexico Burress to walk and took those savings and signed talented FA Guard Jeff Hartings. Thats how you win in this league. We have Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish - can you name the 2nd WR on Pittsburgh now..or carolinas or seattles or denvers??? Let WR Moulds walk
