  1. Guy yes....Modrak no....why is it news that Modrak was only brought into the inner circle for this past years draft????? In other words - he provided information for his prior 5 years but NEVER was put in position to pull the trigger on the given decision. Having viewed the busts that we drafted and having seen the guys Modrak recommended = he got promoted....what do you think this tells you??? And the year he gets promoted and Nix comes in we have our best draft in years both in talent and in priorities (big meat on offensive lines)...... Modrak has no desire to be a GM
  2. Simply put = you are a fu&^%$ idiot - if we had brought Bill Polian back last year as consultant and raised him to GM you would have called that an "inhiouse mistake" Buddy Nix - or anyone like him (lifelong scout and personnel man in successful organizations for the past 20 yrs) is exactly what we need !! Perhaps it would have been better for you if we brought Nix directly from the outside - then it would be ok - rather than what we did bring him in a year early to see how things were
  3. Did you read and comprehend his post????????????????????? It flies right in the face of your statement
  4. QB is the most important position in the NFL and nobody develops them better than Charlie Weiss... He helped groom a young 6th rd QB in Tom Brady to develop very quickly ahead of any expectations He helped Brady Quinn evolve into a Rd1 draft pick (Quinn has since regressed after leaving Weiss) Finally takes talented Jimmy Clausen and has him realize his potential by getting him to be a likely top5 pick after only his junior year.... Weiss knows how to develop qbs and he knows how to protect qbs....he'd be a great choice as head coach. Forget about his W=L record in college....winning in college is based on recruiting ability not scheme
  5. Weiss would come here as a head coach and OC who develops QB's.....even Tom Brady credits Weiss with a lot of his development and then Weiss goes to ND and possibly has his QB being drafted #1 overall after only his junior year...this guy knows how to run an offense...how to develop QB's and how to protect QB's Weiss would have been a great pickup 4 years ago...he still is now only with 4 years of HC experience added to it He'd be a great addition
  6. Then its likely you never would have hired Belicheck after his Cleveland Brown days
  7. Yes agreed....especially when you consider the jump that players make into their 2nd year as Wood and Levitre will be But I do think we have to use the top pick on a LT...otherwise you cannot even compete offensively as you see this year
  8. The only thing these "name" coaches guarantee is a high salary paid out to them - many of them had winning records due to the good situations they were in...they simply rode the gravy train... This would be like some 2-14 team hiring a Levy to turn them around in the 1990s.....when in fact those wins were handed to marv by the GM's he worked under in Polian Smith and Butler... Give me a young hungry evaluator of talent who can watch film and we will win again....
  9. Exactly...who knew of Bill Polian John Butler or AJ Smith before they came??? I honestly dont want these "Name guys" because they simplay are looking for the easiest situation out there rather than saying I'll take any situation and turn it around and win with it !! Find the hungry up and coming GM and he will find the proper no-name guy (like sean Payton) to win with.... As for those who bash Charlie Weiss....College football is about recruiting....pro football is about having the right schemes Weiss was not able to recruit the top players in numbers to win at ND....so what...its a whole different skill set in the NFL...would you really rather have a Pete Carroll than Charlie Weiss because he won more college games?? its ridiculous...
  10. It puts $78 million into our franchise and can be a big reason why our beloved team can stay in Buffalo rather than relocate to an LA or some other place. Also the next 2 years from a Buffalo season tix holder perspective it eliminates a preseason game. Ever wonder why we got such a spike in season tickets 2 years ago? The overall price dropped down because you only paid for 8 games rather than 10 games. (typically $500 ticket dropped to $400)...these are all positives. The atmosphere and demand for tickets will improve when the Bills actually provide Toronto with a competitive team
  11. Lynch is the future??? not for this team
  12. I agree but good luck trying to acquire a 2nd or 3rd rd draft pick for Marshawn
  13. Thank Buddy Nix who had a close read on him from his San Diego days
  14. As has been pointed out by many posters these "A" list guys dont come without warts - there are no Bill Belicheks in this group. Lets not live in someone elses past glory (drew Bledsoe acquisition) - rather lets find the next young and hungry Bill polian out there who can then identify a top young coordinator who is also talented and hungry and build our new future. The main thing an "A" list signing brings is you know then that the organization will be structured again and financial committment will be made to scouts and to talented coordinators. Of course an "A" list name helps sell tickets - but in the end its winning that sells tickets. The killer to the Bills organization was not when Polian left (because only he left) - he left the blueprint and entire structure in place for John Butler and AJ Smith could continue to drive. The killer was when Butler and AJ Smith left bringing to SanDiego both the blue print and philosophy used by the Bills since 1986 and ofcourse grabbing many of the top scouts - the organization Donaho 'built' to replace Polian's blueprint was bull*&^&^. Also the key to Polian was not his drafting (he was not perfect there)...but look who he acquired via trades. Art Still, Leonard Smith, James Lofton, Cornelius Bennet - signed Steve Christie Plan B. And this includes having his trade for Pierce Holt nixed by Littman in Detroit.
  15. The north and midwest have plenty of kids that can play football too - the difference is up north there is at least an attempt to parlay education with football Lower Notre Dame's admission standards to that of Tennessee or Alabama and you will quickly see ND rse to the top 5 again with their history and tradition and national tv contract. and you would quickly see Urban Meyer leave Florida for southbend in a heartbeat - he'd also have to fight off Nick Saban as well
  16. I'm not so sure its a given Shanny and Bills would wait a month. If we offer what he needs (and a bit extra to not wait until January) there is a lot of benefit Shannahan could gain by being with this team and roster for the final 6 weeks. If Shanny felt good about the Bills and the pay...he's not going to flippantly throw away the advantage that seeing his new roster up close for 6 weeks would bring. Marv Levy had this exact advantage in 1986.
  17. Not making the playoffs for a decade and becoming virtually irrelevant in the NFL is far worse. Also not many coaches win the Superbowl period - recently Holmgren returned to a Superbowl with Seattle. A far better stat is that typically these coaches go to a new place and win again
  18. As Tgregg99 accurately points out its the DEPTH of players is where ND fails compared to SEC schools. Also the athletes in the starting 7 on defense for ND are typically way behind what you see at an SEC school and thats the major difference. The offensive positions of QB & WR and DB's on defense can be recruited fine.
  19. I read your post and you claimed that "to Notre Dame fans" winning there would make meyer a legend. Its urban meyer who believes that too - thats why he wanted to coach there so badly and called it his dream job. Meyer called it his dream job - not ND fans.
  20. And the SEC got that way (NFL of college) by maintaining the lowest academic standards for admissions of its football players. If you want to win in football simply lower your academic standards - this has caused a shift of power in college football away from the big10 and Notre Dame to the SEC schools of the south. Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier and Lane Kiffin all understand this
  21. Yes but unlike the Yankees who have every advantage to win ($$$ to sign free agents) Notre Dame is at a major disadvantage to win due to their ridiculous admission standards for the football team
  22. Urban Meyer himself coached at ND as an assistant and had it written into his contracts that he could exit the contracts if/only if Notre Dame offered him a job. Meyer wanted the ND job because it was his 'dream 'place to coach. However even he turned it down when he saw the restrictions on allowing football players into ND - it made it too difficult to win at Notre Dame. These facts are not from biased ND fans its simply what happened. So when judging Charlie Weiss' W-L record keep in mind even urban meyer turned it down due to those restrictions The SEC obviously is the breeding ground for the NFL and the top talent plays there. Its done mostly however because those schools in the SEC have far lower academic admission standards for their football players than Notre Dame does -its that simple
  23. And explain why Urban meyer turned down the Notre Dame job when it was offered to him?? It was Meyer's "dream job" yet he still said no due to the restrictions Weiss had to live with. ND simplay cannot get the top athletes into the school to play in their defensive front 7. Notre Dame's graduation rate is in the 90% range while Florida Alabama & texas are near the 50% range - yes as a head coach trying to get wins its like playing with a hand tied behind your back
  24. If the real top A-list guys dont commit...a Charlie Weiss could be available early with the college season ending soon. Weiss being fired from ND is no reflection on his ability to coach - Urban Meyer turned down the ND job because he knew it was trying to win with 2 hands behind your back. Also Weiss' ND teams were lacking mostly on the defensive front 7...his offenses with Clauson produced. Weiss would find ways to get Lee Evans the football. Weiss had success in the NFL at the highest levels - Ralph Wilson apparently likes him. Hiring a weiss at the $6mil range rather than 10mil could allow for paying a top football GM and assistants too. ND did not have great success as a team this year = but their QB and head coach/OC did fine Also the familiarity Weiss & Clauson have could allow Clauson to hit the ground running in a way most rookies can't. I'd like the fact that Weiss would know exactly what he'd be getting in Clauson if he decided to select him.
  25. The temptation to 'let a team score' is usefful but ONLY when the team trying to score can beat you with a FG...which ofcourse is a gimme....they scored on 3rd down needing a TD....never do you concede a TD....
