Golisano to bid on Bills & propose new WS staduim
jahbonas replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes the right of way is there with rails - but a train that passes thru once a day at 5am does not cut it. -

Agree 1000% regarding rail infrastructure in wny - the whole area is so car dependent. No real rail option into downtown for workers. No rail option out to the airport, No real rail connector between Niagara Falls and Buffalo and Rochester, Without the rail connecting the 3 cities you have 3 smaller cities - connect via rail system and you have one very big vibrant area. -

One thing for sure - the silence out of the Pegula camp is getting louder and louder. Hard to conceive he would not be part of such a process -
And there is a train that could travel from Dunkirk thru Hamburg thru downtown Buffalo thru Tonowandas to Niagara Falls - this could become a major way of moving people to/from the games

JBJ, Tanenbaum and Jacobs family super team?

Why not expand the rail system between Buffalo and Niagara Falls - heck this should be done anyways, Game day trains could begin as far south as Hamburg or Fredonia and pass thru Buffalo to Niagara Falls -
The overall point is - that the Politicians of Cuomo and Schumer can very well make a HUGE difference because they can threaten to change/impact laws that are very favorable to the NFL - and the NFL does not want to do things (like move a team out of NY state or out of USA) that these politicians do not like. It is you who have clung to this anti-trust rule as if its the ONLY thing the politicians can use to threaten the NFL and influence the NFL to vote in a way to keep key politicians happy. I would think in this growing era of populism it would not be a stretch that many in congress would not like the fact the NFL billionaires get a tax exemption very favorable to them - EVERYONE seems to understand this but YOU - and you cling to this antitrust argument over and over Cuomo and Schumur can have a huge impact on keeping the Bills right where they are now, - because they have bullets in their holsters that the NFL is very very sensitive to.

A roof is a MUST for any new stadium - no financial plan can work when figuring only 10 days of revenue a year, Look at Lucas Oil field for the Colts. The Colts only account for 15% of the revenue generate by that building/convention center/football stadium - thats our model. And if thats the model it must be located near a downtown area to accomodate conventions etccc - indicating either Buffalo or Niagara Falls, Likely the Falls gets the nod mostly because the land acquisition would be easier/cheaper. Lets see where it all goes.....
-
Do you even read the comments before you post?? There are MULTIPLE threats against the NFL - antitrust is ONE - but there is also the tax exempt status that can be taken away by politicians, Polian indicates this is a huge threat. Is your argument that politicians have no influence on the NFL? or is it so narrow that its the anti trust law is a threat that they will never use? If so - so what?? the pols then can threaten with the tax exempt law = or don't you wish to address this?
-
So either you believe that you are better informed than Bill Polian or you believe Bill Polian has some incentive to make this up. By the way - Tim Graham's article last week mentioned he had FOUR well placed sources that stated the same thing that the NFL has multiple privileges that can be changed by politicians and the last thing they want to do is open up any can of worms. But hey - you post here and you know more than those 5 sources. Why read and learn when you can simply post away in ignorance?
-
Add Bill Polian as a 5th person in the know that states the NFL does not want to mess with politicians.....your stance on the anti-trust status is just ONE of MANY things the NFL has that politicians can threaten to take away Talked with Bill Polian last week on SiriusXM NFL Kicks and asked Bill two questions: 1) Do you think the Bills will stay in WNY? His response: Bill said that the Bills will stay in WNY though the duration of its lease with Erie County but would not really comment beyond that... He did add: If the NFL even tries to move an existing team outside the United States - you can expect powerful politicians in Washington to begin sessions on pulling the NFL's tax exempt status. He said there is no chance that the NFL will fool around with that and that the Bills will likely stay put.

BBB it was the Herschel Walker deal of the NHL and Quinn turned it down - HUGE HUGE mistake - even if you did not realize it at the time. -

Agreed - and I think all the excitement around the Sammy Watkins trade has hidden what we have done to improve our OL since last season. Listening to some national podcasts its being noticed now more and more with the general theme being like " this may sound odd for a team missing the playoffs for 14 yrs but the Buffalo Bills have no real holes - dont fall asleep on them" -
And there are more issues than the anti-trust that the NFL would want political cover for. Remove that incredible perk of non-profit status and see these owners get double taxed -ouch !! The unknowns ahead regarding concussion lawsuits...

Save it for the 4 well placed sources whose statements directly conflict with your own personal guesses. The Buff news actually reached out and interviewed multiple people very much in the know before sharing their article/ opinion - please share with us the experts you reached out to before arriving at your personal guess? And please excuse us for accepting the opinions of the 4 well placed sources.
-
It got repeated 4x in the Front Page article - not here!!!! Its you who simply wants to ignore the fact that the NFL has a few controversial legal issues that benefit them - and they prefer very much not to even talk about let alone have litigated. Just the threat is enough... Again - for your sake - from the ARTICLE - either you never bothered to read the article or you read it and simply ignore the multiple sources Four well-placed sources The Buffalo News spoke with about the Bills’ long-term status were skeptical the NFL would dare upset Cuomo and Schumer and permit the team to leave Western New York. The NFL isn’t in the business of flouting political juice. Cuomo could run for president in 2016. Schumer is the popular, third-ranking Senate Democrat. To let the Bills leave would cause the NFL, with its headquarters in Manhattan, to lose those influential allies and practically beg for added scrutiny on controversial issues.

Not exactly because Edmonton then used the $7 million they had allocated for Vanek and paid a free agent and added to their team and they still finished 6th 10th etccc as you indicated.. We could have had multiple picks in the top 10 for number of years - Sabre fans currently are happy as hell they are tanking for all the premium picks ahead when they in essence had that situation and flushed it down the toilet. The key point is - No player is worth four 1st round picks in any sport (maybe basketball because that one player is one of only 5 and plays both offense & defense). If ever offered it you run to the podium and say thank you, I'm sorry BBB and Co didnt see that at the time..... -

So that's the criteria you use to determine a trade successful or not? It can be argued no player in any sport is woth 4 1st round draft picks...- and we said no - for Vanek who may have made 1 all star game. -

Forget the Brierre /Drury - what followed was perhaps the worst trade (non-trade) in Buffalo sports history and thats not taking the 4 1st rd draft picks from Edmonton for Thomas Vanek Thats more a reflection on Larry Quinn than on Golisano -

Cost of Watkins = Typical Media Bias against Buffalo
jahbonas replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you wanna play odds it could easily be argued that any free agent QB in 2015 would be more likely to sign with the Bills because a WR like Sammy Watkins is here to throw to - and the only way to acquire Sammy was to trade away the #1 pick. -

AGAIN - how did Denver acquire their current QB ? How did the Saints acquire their current QB? How did the Seahawks acquire their current QB? How did the SF 49rs acquire their current QB? How did the Patriots acquire their current QB ? How did the Bengals acquire their current QB? How did the Eagles acquire their current QB? How did the KC Chiefs acquire their current QB? That might be the top 8 teams in the NFL and NONE of them acquired their current QB by using a #1 draft pick. So can we please stop with the phoney idea that a team cannot acquire a top QB if it does not have a 1st rd pick? The Bills will have $50 million next year to spend NONE of them did so by using a #1 draft choice -

Any new owner would also mean a new stadium which would have a 30 year lease - all bets off if no new stadium but any new stadium would come with 30yr lease to stay -
