In theory, your theme of using relevant Bills people thru history is definitely an interesting idea, but in practical application the problem is the size available for those photos. The icon when used the way it is now is only 37 x 37 pixels. That's really too small for photos to be easily recognized. The imagery kinda blobs together because there are so few pixels available. At a larger size it might work, but at the current size, photos just don't hold up well. Going to bump the image I posted last night with my take on how to handle the icons. It's not as emotionally compelling as Big Buff's idea or some other earlier ideas, but it is practical for the size. Maybe it's too simple and boring, but it's just an idea.

Here's my take on a system of icons. Tried to take a somewhat progressive approach, starting with historical and practice greys, up to getting your logo as a Rookie, then getting different color adornments as you move up. Veteran just seemed like an obvious place for the standing buffalo - then finishing with All Pro stars and of course a golden HOF. All are clearly Bills specific, with maybe the exception of Probation, but hey, how long should you really be stuck at less than 50 posts. 😉 Tried to ultimately keep it pretty simple - they are pretty dang small after all, but hopefully easily recognizable and distinctive enough. And maybe a little less boring than the rocket. Curious what folks think... (Click on the image below to enlarge)

Properly sized icons / imagery is the key. Like I said, I'll try to set up some draft thoughts tonight and see what folks think... The rockets are a bit monotonous for sure. lol

My GUESS is that the space where the rockets are now can probably be filled with whatever the Admins choose to fill them with. JPG, PNG, etc. Probably handled just like our profile pics.

Assuming custom icons are a possibility, I may take a stab at designing a round of them later tonight... They're small so they'll need to be pretty simple. (I've been a graphic designer for over 30 years)

The real question from a design perspective is what kind of options are available? - Just color changes to the background behind the rocket? - Individual icons for each? If so, is there a set the Admins have to choose from - or can they be custom designed?

Maybe they will. We'll just have to see what they come out with this year. If alternate helmets sell - they'll do more. If they don't, well...

I'm totally with you, and that's why these are generally fun, but it's also really well traveled ground - so lots of strong feelings already baked in. 😉👍
