This is roughly our history with Offensive and Defensive coordinators: Offensive coordinators: Dan Henning: 1997 (previous experience: Super Bowl winning OC with the Washington Redskins.) The source here is only Wikipedia, but it says that his refusal to fire Henning had something to do with why Marv retired. Joe Pendry: 1998-2000 (previously OC: Carolina, Kansas City) Mike Sheppard: 2001 (previously OC: San Diego. Currently, by the way, the WRs coach in Cincy. Good job getting the most from CHad Johnson) Kevin Gilbride: 2002-03. Tons of previous and future experience, of course. Tom Clements: 2004-05: First time OC, now OC in Green Bay. Steve Fairchild: 2006-07 (previously OC with the Rams) Turk Schonert: 2008. First time OC. Defensive coordinator: Wade Phillips until he took over as HC. Ted Cottrell: 1998-2000: First time DC Jerry Gray: 2001-2005: First time DC Perry Fewell: 2006-2008. First time DC Here are our rankings, for what that's worth. It's points, yards, with offense in bold and defense in italics 1997: 29, 25, 23, 9 (Henning and Wade) 1998: 7, 6, 15, 6 (Pendry-Cottrell) 1999: 16, 11, 2, 1 (Pendry-Cottrell) 2000: 20, 9, 18, 3. Note: this is a remarkably huge difference between points and yards. This is the year we had historically bad special teams. I think that accounts for the difference. (Pendry-Cottrell) 2001: 27, 13, 29, 21 (Sheppard-Gray) 2002: 11, 11, 27, 15 (Gilbride-Gray) 2003: 30, 30, 5, 2 (Gilbride-Gray/LeBeau) 2004: 7, 25, 8, 2 (Clements-Gray). The opposite of 2000 on offense, great points, crappy yardage. See April, Bobby. 2005: 24, 28, 24, 29 (Clements-Gray) 2006: 23, 30, 10, 18 (Fairchild-Fewell) 2007: 30, 30, 18, 31 (Fairchild-Fewell) 2008: 22, 21, 12, 12 (Schonert-Fewell)

Chris Brown's blog now has the "unacceptable" statement up. You gotta call that a press release. Wilson might not care, but Brandon's gotta be interested in not being remembered as a loser.

Here's the thing - the Ravens had a ferocious D with Marvin Lewis. He moved to Cincy and flamed out. The Ravens still had a great D, now under Mike Nolan. He moved to San Fran and collapsed. The Ravens now STILL have a great D, under Rex Ryan. I'm not sure these coordinators are particularly magic - I think Ozzie just knows how to build a defense. It's a similar thing with the Patriots: Charlie Weis is floundering at Notre Dame, Romeo's screwing up in Cleveland, and even Mangini has had his share of problems, despite St. Favre. I'm not convinced that the next crop, McDaniels and Ryan, are going to be better than their predecessors.

The 2009 Buffalo Bills: They could still surprise you!

You know, if any of the fans could play center, and was willing to do it for $500,000 per season, we'd be in a lot less crap right now. There's a million people in Western New York - and not one NFL caliber center?
-
Hardy could well break out next year. I'm not giving up on him yet. Soon, maybe, but not yet. Schouman has shown some signs of life as a tight end - he could be the best one on our roster, though that's not saying much (paging Michael Gaines). John Wendling is a contributor on special teams. Steve Johnson could be a solid depth player and Bowen got hurt in preseason. Even Derek Fine shows signs of life. But a team isn't expected to make the playoffs on the backs of its rookies. Jauron's go enough veterans to make a run. Or, you know, a touchdown more than once a month.
-
I think the coaching staff is Brandon's big test. If he has the balls to fire Jauron and hire a good coach, then I'll trust him. If we keep DJ or bring in Dom Capers or something, he'll be just another !@#$ in charge of this long-suffering organization.
-
Brandon made two big moves this offseason: trading for Stroud and signing Mitchell. Both have worked out really well: they're probably our two best players. The draft was more iffy, but McKelvin is working out fairly well, at least. He didn't make bad moves; he just didn't make enough of them.

Do you think we could have completed a pass if there was even a light breeze? If we need some X factor to win because allowing 16 points leaves us blown out, it's hopeless.

What kind of coach do you want.

Cowher, Spagnolo, Raheem Morris, Josh McDaniels or Russ Grimm. -
Hope springs eternal.

Probably the Lions. I hate myself with a passion.

The defense isn't bad. They're not good, but they're not bad. They're pretty solidly average. But they held Miami under their season average for points, total yards - including both rushing and passing, etc. And that's with the offense punting after every 1:30 of ball control. It'd be nice to see this team get some turnovers, but the offense is too bad to allow them to take risks; you give up a touchdown, and it's clear the game is over. Never mind how demoralizing it is to see your best efforts turn into stuff-drop-sack-punt possessions anyway. Fix the offense, maintain the defense, and this team would be competitive. A little depth at LB, a pass rushing DE.

Bills win out, Dolphins lose out, Patriots lose out, and the Jets team bus crashes after beating the Dolphins week 17.
-
Week 1: Seattle - Mike Holmgren will retire after the season Week 2: Jacksonville - Jack Del Rio has lost the team, in serious danger of being fired. Week 3: Oakland - Lane Kiffin has been fired. Week 4: St. Louis - Scott Linehan has been fired. Week 6: San Diego - Norv Turner is in serious danger of being fired. Week 11: Kansas City - Herm Edwards will almost certainly be fired.
-
Best team we've beaten this year is the San Diego Chargers, at 5-8. Then it's the 3-10 Raiders, the 2-11 Chiefs, the 2-11 Seahawks, the 2-11 Rams, and 4-9 Jaguars. 18-60. And we almost lost to the Rams, Raiders, and Jags.

I've had some math professors with lots of passion and emotion. You don't get a PhD in math if you care about it as little as DJ cares about winning football games.

We have no time outs left, right? So the next time they get the ball, it's game over. -

Lee Evans with the clutch catch inside two minutes. If only, you know, it were a close game.
