  1. As far as RFAs go - I think the NFL should switch to the NHL's system. The compensation isn't based on what the team decides ahead of time; it's based on what the offer the player gets is.
  2. Is there any reason for a new team to pay him more than $1 if they're going to pay him less than his current salary?
  3. Wants to name his own GM? Fine! If he wanted to name his own owner, I'd be happy to give him the authority as long as he picked a guy who wanted to keep the Bills in Buffalo.
  4. Give this team a Bruce Smith type at DE, a Jim Kelly type at QB, and an Andre REed type at WR, and we could go 11-5!
  5. I firmly believe people are more likely to leave Buffalo when the Bills suck.
  6. Would Brian Schotteheimer come with his father? Just to throw this out there - I haven't thought it through yet. HC: Marty Schottenheimer OC: Brian Schottenheimer DC: Eric Mangini
  7. If we went 11-5 and missed the playoffs, we'd be pissed, but I don't think anyone would be calling for violence against the entire current roster and staff. Sounds better.
  8. A 3-4 defense starring Schobel-Stroud-Denney with absolutely no depth behind them would give up 6 yards per carry to backup fullbacks.
  9. Marv Levy seemed to do okay despite his Harvard tenure. And of course, Bill Belichick spent four years at Wesleyan.
  10. Is there absolutely any reason to think he would be a good coach? For example, in his six years as a WR coach, what WR has he coached to a successful season?
  11. The Bills will not hire Parcells. There may be hope for Martyball.
  12. Say it was clear that McKelvin had touched it, and it rolled out of the end zone. Is that, by rule, a safety?
  13. Are we seriously considering drafting another top-10 pick safety? Draft the best freaking lineman on the board.
  14. Yeah, maybe I am. Back to FO, Edwards actually has a better per-play score than Favre, although overall, Edwards+Losman is less than Favre - Losman is a severe negative. So call that the difference, and a full season of Edwards would have likely made this all a wash.
  15. I'd say Russ Grimm and Raheem Morris are my top two choices, with honorable mentions to Jim Schwartz and Josh McDaniels.
  16. So, had Turk/Dick/JP not totally botched the end of the Bills-Jets game, we'd both have finished with matching 8-8 records. I was thinking about how that could be possible, since they really seem to be a better team than we are. It's not strength of schedule; in common games, we went 6-6 and they ended up 5-7. Now, obviously, they had much better play at the QB position on the season, so where did we make up the gap? I'd say RBs may be slightly in our favor on offense, but WRs are a wash at best, and their line is better. On defense, they seem to have a definite edge. It can't be coaching! Does this mean that we were really not the victims of bad luck, but rather an especially lucky team, that really deserved to go 5-11? Or are the Jets a really unlucky 9-7?
  17. Miami is building a very good team. The Jets, well, they were a freak-of-nature JP fumble away from having the same record as us.
  18. The Dolphins won the division in no small part because they lucked into Brett Favre, but equally because they plugged holes in free agency and hired a coach who realized that having Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown doesn't just give you a steady supply of weed.
  19. He used to be our OC, as it turns out. Dan Henning.
  20. I hate Royal and I hate Kelsay about as much as any Bills in history.
  21. Yeah - there's no head-to-head in the tiebreakers, so our win over the Chargers won't hurt us. But they're opponents winning percentage may not be better than ours - they do have four games vs. the Chiefs and the Raiders. Anyone got a definite source?
  22. Jarhead is slang for Marine. I'm not sure what you're going for there.
  23. Well, if we're not going to improve our players ever, and we're never going to hire a good coach, Jauron is probably pretty good at keeping 7-9 from becoming 3-13.
  24. DE, C, HC - I bet that's at least +3 wins.
  25. Length of time with current team before first playoff berth: This isn't a cherry-picked list. That's every active head coach in the NFL with a playoff appearance with his current team. One of them failed to do it in the first three years - and those years were in a very different league in the early 90s and a team that moved.
