Trent's problem isn't that he's coming up short on receivers 30 yards downfield in favor of an RB in the flat, it's that he's not throwing to receivers 12 yards downfield in favor of an RB in the flat. He can throw the distance. It's just about being willing to take those shots and make those throws, consistently.

Fred Jackson leaves practice with injury
silvermike replied to cmjoyce113's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Over the past three years, the Bills have ranked 18th in terms of lost games due to injury, and 16th in 2008. So like everything else, we're blandly in the middle of the road. It does seem, though, that our best players tend to get injured. -
The cost of resigning or signing a starting QB

Seriously? -
I'll cop to it - I think he was going to be a solid WR for the fish. Not a superstar, but a reliable 3rd down kind of guy, I dunno, Josh Reed or so. Whoops.

Jim Kelly sees win-or-else season for Bills

Selected and retained them, and let's remember Schonert is a second-chance for Jauron, after whiffing with Fairchild. If the problem's really with the assistants, then Jauron looks just as bad not only for hiring chumps, but refusing to fire *any* of them. -
I told you guys it would be a long season

I say "It's only preseason" every year after they look like this in the preseason. Then they play like turds in the regular season. -
If that's really why the deal didn't get done until today, Aaron Maybin shouldn't fire his agent. He should sue his agent. That's sounding like malpractice; Segal was hired to represent Maybin, and if he lost Aaron money, he botched it with negligence. He's allowed to make a mistake, but he screwed the pooch if he just blew off Maybin's contact for Vick's.

Jacksonville is expecting 10 Blackouts this season!
silvermike replied to Bad Lieutenant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
18 million! Yeah, that's moronic. But still, it's not like the Jags are missing the deadline and selling out by kickoff, or worried about a few late games during a slump. They're giving up, in August, on games in December. What's their season ticket base? THe players' wives? -
Can somebody help me with some ?'s

I went crazy trying to figure out how the alignment could work in a 4-6 defense (six linebackers?) until I realized that the damn thing was called the 46 defense, named after a player's number. -
Time of Possession - not as valuable as one might think

I think TOP tends to be an indicator of successful play rather than a goal unto itself. A team that goes 1/3 for 10 yards passing is probably worse than the team that runs three times for ten yards, even if the immediate result is the same. More first downs equal more plays, and more plays equal more TOP. And of course, ahead in the 4th, it helps if you're the kind of team who knows how to eat the clock. -
Full sentence: The Jaguars, 49ers, and Bills have not signed their first round picks, but have less money available in the rookie pool than the Packers did and therefore will not sign their top picks to contracts exceeding BJ Raji's.
-
I don't disagree, but it's not like the Bills first team offense looked bad for a whole game; they only ran nine plays. Most of them were successful, until a rookie guard in his first season of live action was thrown into the QB provoking an errant throw. If Edwards had had room to step up and hit a TD pass on that play instead of a pick, we'd be talking about how great the offense looked. I do think there are some real worries about the pass defense, though. They looked like they were just getting beat, and the pass rush remained absent. But they bottled up the run, so there's hope there, even. I want to say "They looked great, but who knows what it means?" instead of "They looked crummy, but at least it doesn't count" I think we'll get to in the next four games.
-
They didn't look good. For the most part, they didn't look that bad. It was one freaking series on offense, which is frustrating after 9 months without football, but part for the course, I suppose. Trent made four good plays and one bad one, which may not have been his fault anyway. Owens got open, Marshawn found some running room. The defense contained Chris Johnson and LenDale White but played off on 3rd downs. The special teams looked bad, but those units aren't really together yet, and who the hell gears up for a trick play in preseason? I dunno. I'd've liked to see a confident TD drive with the offense firing on all cylinders, followed by a three and out. We didn't get it. But it wasn't a disaster unless you're worried about Bruce Hall and Matt Baker.
-
It doesn't matter if there was no time on the clock: the result of the play would be a safety, with points awarded. The only time that gets shaved off is if a TD is scored in overtime - there'd be no XP.
-
We'll see. I think it's worth considering if he doesn't show some improvement. Seth McKinney might be a good replacement for Levitre on a short-term basis if you figure that eventually, our line will be Walker-Levitre-Hang-Wood-Butler.
-
I think the idea is just to put as much distance between yourself and the defense as possible - run away from them until the clock is out, then go out of bounds. Ideally, that's still on the field of play, but if you step out of bounds with :01 at the clock at the 5, then you're screwed - the opponent gets the ball in great field position, whereas if you step out of the end zone at :01, the game will end if you can over the free kick.
-
Oh, come on, Tennessee. Intentional safety?
-
Oh good lord. PFT is being pumped during a game.
-
You know, we may well win this game. That's not really goign to make me feel better.
-
The line is not helping Gibran much at all, but he's getting away from it a little bit anyway.
-
Note - it's about the end of the 3rd quarter, and the leading rusher in the game is a punter.

Can't say anything against Lindell.
