  1. Just generally, the Bills do a really lousy job staying in touch with the fans. They never give interviews to the paper or WGR, and even Chris Brown doesn't get more than 5 minutes with Buddy Nix. It doesn't have to be anybody's top priority by any means, but Russ Brandon could probably spare fifteen minutes to do a radio spot.
  2. He's still the best QB on our roster. That's sad, but it's still the case, and we should keep him until we find three better guys.
  3. That's not how the law of averages works.
  4. You realize you posted the same comment three times, ending all of them with "I'm outta here"
  5. Marty doesn't want to coach any more. He's had a long career and he's happily retired. He's said it over and over to anyone who would listen.
  6. There's no lockout until there's a lockout. Both sides are now doing their best to convince the other that they're willing to give up a year's work for their demands. Don't believe it until the gun actually goes off.
  7. It it's a straight line that the best position coaches make good coordinators and the best coordinators make good coaches. Payton, Caldwell, Harbaugh, and Andy Reid were all promoted to their current jobs from position coaching roles (though Payton had previous OC experience).
  8. I actually think it's kind of funny.
  9. I'd be a lot more confident if he's been given the responsibility to hire the candidates he chooses for approval. Hopefully, he's a good salesman.
  10. I will say - Minnesota blitzes as often as all but 7-8 teams. Like most T2 teams, they're moving towards a hybrid approach that uses the zone/4 man rush dominantly in passing situations, but has started working in run blitzes and surprise pass rush moves from the outside. Given our weaker defensive line, I would expect to see that here too.
  11. I think what both of them have in common - along with Russ Grimm - is that they're considered to be better head men than coordinators, despite some success at that job. I'd be happy with any of those three, but I'd say it's Schotty-Frazier-Grimm for me right now. I think there's a big drop off after that: the McDermott/Zimmer crowd.
  12. He didn't run Parker out of town from the sidelines, he did it from the studio. And I mean, I doubt he really had anything to do with the decision - if Marv wanted his advice, he wouldn't have fired him. But every day on the show, he'd scream about how Parker was ruining the team and we should start Corey Louchey instead. And eventually, he got his wish.
  13. Are we talking about him as DC or HC?
  14. Looking at Russ Grimm's profile, he actually has not been the Arizona Cardinals' offensive coordinator: he's the line coach and the Asst. HC. This put me off briefly, but he's not the only guy in that boat who's had success in the NFL. Of this year's playoff teams: Philadelphia: Hired Andy Reid away from his job as Green Bay's QB coach. New Orleans: Sean Payton had been the QB coach in Dallas. Baltimore: John Harbaugh special teams coordinator, I guess, but that's a different role. Also DBs coach in Philly. Indianapolis: Jim Caldwell promoted from QBs coach. I think there's a set of guys who aren't the master tacticians that become coordinators, but have the skill and leadership to run NFL teams and establish themselves as position coaches and make the jump. Grimm seems like one of those guys to me: a leader who could right the ship. I hope we get a clean shot at him next week.
  15. That's a good point. Boldin is also likely to leave, and the Cards could backslide.
  16. Grimm seems to be unready to interview because of the upcoming game, not anything particular about our job. So go New Orleans, and we'll see Russ in a week.
  17. It's exciting in the way that TO was exciting - celebrated guy who brings some attention. But then you think about it and realize it's a bad fit and won't get you anywhere.
  18. I think Lombardi deserves a pass - he did die a year after taking over the Redskins.
  19. What if overtime just continued from the last play of the 4th quarter? Clock runs out on 2nd and 10 on an incomplete pass, you start overtime 3rd and ten from the same spot.
  20. The scuttlebutt is that Frazier would hire Al Saunders as OC. Not sure how true that is.
  21. If we end up with Billick, Del Rio might be our DC.
  22. And remarkably, people are clamoring for Jim Harbaugh, when no ex-college coaches are active in the playoffs (or in the league, unless I forgot someone).
  23. I think we should draft him and trade for Alex Mack. Anyone else we can add to the line?
  24. The thing about the Rooney Rule is that it's really so cheap, I don't get the pressure against it. It's a few hours, a plane ticket, and maybe a hotel room in a multibillion dollar business. It helps the perception of a problem the league has had, and it doesn't hurt anybody. I'd be interested in adding an exception if only one candidate is interviewed (for Carroll situations), since it gets silly at that point. But in any open search, why not?
