  2. I'm not really offended when a guy on his way to the Super Bowl says that he prefers it to his old job.
  3. I remember a lot of people pulling for Gaitner during that supplemental draft, and then some outrage when we could have gotten him for a 5th. Ugh.
  4. Still, the 1998 Bills weren't a terrible team like we've gotten used to. They were a good team that held the QB position together with tape. Rookie Manning would have had Thurman Thomas in the backfield and Andre Reed out wide, with Eric Moulds coming up strong.
  5. Ding ding ding! They also added Justin Smiley, Randy Starks, Anthony Fasano, and um, Jason Ferguson.
  6. Let me chime in and say thanks - and say again that I hope you're not putting your job on the line with this stuff.
  7. Has anyone heard anything from Francisco Franco yet? I'm starting to get worried...
  8. Seriously.
  9. Maybe we should just get a left-handed QB and focus on the right side of the line. Seems easier. Know any southpaws? Seriously, though, the team has so many needs and is in such desperate need of real playmakers, I'm really pressed to draft for value and not need in the first round. And there have been solid hits in the 2nd round at tackle, even for rookies: Marcus McNeil and Phil Loadholt recently.
  10. I get the no-byline part, but a.) putting up Tim Graham's picture and b.) attributing it to "ESPN News Services" if it was writte by the AP both seem like sketchy moves.
  11. Note that San Diego and Indy barely have any UFAs on their roster. Other than their kicker(s), I can only think of Hank Baskett in Indianapolis and a few backups in SD. For pro personnel, I'd focus on the other teams.
  12. And the Vikings got Loadholt.
  13. Schaub is going in for him - that's a well deserved entry.
  14. Belichick was a sexy hire?
  15. I'd be happy if Gailey got hired because he explained how he WOULD win with Trent Edwards, thus proving his bona fides as an offensive coordinator. And then he told Buddy Nix to go get him a real QB.
  16. Hellllooooo Clancy Pendergast.
  17. Sign Wilfork and we'll talk.
  18. It sounds to me like Ralph Wilson just guaranteed the playoffs with Chan Gailey, because otherwise, there's no freaking way he lives this down.
  19. I mean, I think it's reasonably likely that Gailey will be our best coach since Wade. He may even be better than Wade. That's faint praise, but I mean, if we can get a Wade-level regime that gives us a 10-6 season, I'll be happy.
  20. What changed in Miami is that after he left, they sold the farm and replaced Lamar Smith with Ricky Williams. And while the offense improved in its yardage totals, it had scored more points under Gailey. Additionally, he improved a Marino offense with a Fiedler offense when he took over.
  21. The Bills are five wins away from being the Jets. Don't forget about the Bengals' and Chargers games. If we went 9-7 and got curbstomped in the wild card round, nobody's talking about us.
  22. He's the biggest reach since Jauron. We've been sucky for a decade. This doesn't make us better, I think, but it probably doesn't make us worse.
  23. As a coordinator, the numbers aren't bad. Listed with team, year, job, and leading QB/WR/RB 1996: Steelers (OC) 11th: Tomzack/Charles Johnson/Bettis - Remember Charles Johnson? 1997: Steelers (OC) 7th: Stewart/Bettis/Thigpen 1998 Cowboys (HC): 9th: Aikman/Irvin/Smith 1999 Cowboys (HC): 11th Aikman/Ismail/Smith 2000 Dolphins (OC): 16th Fiedler/Lamar Smith/Gadsen 2001 Dolphins (OC): 8th Fiedler/Lamar Smith/Chambers 2008 Chiefs (OC): 26th Thigpen/Bowe/Johnson A few things jump out: a.) He's only had one bad season, but it was his most recent one. b.) More importantly, how has he featured two different offenses with leaders named Thigpen? c.) He's rarely had much in the way of talent. That QB list is awful unless you like concussed hall of famers. d.) Most of this is old news. He's only really had one year coaching in the NFL since 2001. So, I mean, there's no real conclusion here. He's not a terrible offensive coordinator: it's not like he hired Turk Schonert. He can manage an offense with medicore talent to above-average success. The real question is how does he lead a team.
  24. He should be due to coach the Bills in the 2019 season. People will praise him for his 2003 appearance with Michael Vick, and insist that we call the aging QB out of retirement.
