  1. Andre Reed: Only broke 1000 yards 4 times in 15 years Had only 3 seasons of 80 or more catches Did have 87 career Tds, including 5 seasons of 7 or more Never had back-to-back 1000 yard seasons Had 7 seasons under 800 yards. Career yards per game is 56.4 Averaged 80 yards per game only twice. Other than touchdowns, the stats are not much better for Andre than they are for Moulds, and a lot of that comes from an offense that can put you in scoring position. Moulds also had two seasons over Reed's career high of 90 receptions. He played in a different era, of course, but it's not a slam dunk that Reed was better on numbers alone. He just made more plays at the right times, and played on good teams.
  2. Yeah, we are seriously short a #2 and a #3 WR right now, barring a huge step up from Hardy and Steve Johnson. They've got 22 catches between them over the course of two seasons. Ugh.
  3. I think the decision has to be made independently of any Whitner trade. The improvement from George Wilson to Eric Berry isn't really any different than Whitner to Berry, so if he's worth having without Whitner, he's almost certainly worth having with Whitner.
  4. Note the other running backs from that draft: Deuce McAllister, Anthony Thomas, LaMont Jordan, Travis Henry, Rudi Johnson. Mostly retired, otherwise totally washed up. Ten years is a long career for an RB, especially one with as many touches as Tomlinson has had. Time for him to hang'em up and start writing his speech for Canton.
  5. Coaches and scouts. I don't really have any sense at all of the size of an average NFL scouting operation, or the cost of it, but how much could a scout possibly make? Even saying it's $100k, you can hire 50 scouts for the price of your first round pick. If just one of those guys can turn up a real talent that fell to day two, it seems like a huge payoff. I'm sure there's a question of diminishing marginal returns at some point, but still, it seems largely affordable for an NFL team to have a guy at every single Div-1A game.
  6. Still retired. It's just that his contract ran out. He's not coming back.
  7. Can't Forbes ever make a list without requiring a click for each item?
  8. Ah, I don't care which channel, I'm stuck at work. Anyone have an internet feed?
  9. I always get thrown off when FOX has anything to say about the Bills or another AFC team. Likewise when CBS covers the NFC or ESPN covers anybody besides Dallas, the Giants, or the Patriots. It's like I don't believe they watch any other networks.
  10. It is remarkable that Jimbo was born within weeks of the founding of the Buffalo Bills. And that all the success the team has had was before his retirement.
  11. I didn't realize the Tuna spelled his name with an apostrophe.
  12. He'll be nominated a lot, but won't make a serious run at it.
  13. Also minor note: Mike Devlin is the TE coach with the Jets.
  14. Sam Gash IS coaching, good call! He's the RBs coach in Detroit.
  15. Brees proves that if you have a shot at a 27-year-old UFA QB with a pro bowl resume, you should take it.
  16. Lovable losers tend to be goofy and bumbling, rather than just inept and pathetic. If the Bills were losing games on players running the wrong way, and other kinds of slide-whistle-appropriate buffoonery, we'd be lovable losers. But just getting outplayed by better talent doesn't get any love.
  17. Yep, that's four franchise tags.
  18. When did that bit air? That seems like the kind of thing they run well after midnight, when all remaining viewers are half-asleep or fully baked.
  19. Lindell was far better than Norwood, all across the board. Lindell is a career 80% kicker (83% in Buffalo), while Norwood was at 72%. Norwood was 2/10 past 50 yards, Lindell is over 50%. He's better going down in every range: 40-49, 30-39, 20-29, etc. Even controlling for the era (kickers are better these days), Lindell has 4 seasons in the top 10 in accuracy, Norwood had 1 - in a smaller league. All there may be is the 'clutch' factor, and that doesn't seem there - Lindell has hit 70 go ahead field goals, vs. 33. I don't have any stats that show which of those are in the 4th quarter/OT.
  20. Garcia was on the Eagles roster this year, and took a couple kneeldowns. Who knew?
  21. As far as the death of the Pro Bowl goes, note that you can go to the NFL's website and buy a seat right now if you felt like going.
  22. Pretty much. We don't need to acquire a starting RB, OG, CB, or S. That covers 7 of 22 starters.
  23. Bills get Vladimir Ducasse in the second round there.
  24. There is no assistant Rooney Rule. As to a DC coming from a current team, it's worth noting that neither plays a 3-4.
  25. My best sense of things here is that they're going to announce the entire staff in one go. That's the only reason why they'd be hiring position coaches without a coordinator, and refusing to confirm or announce the hirings as they go.
