  1. It's a sham marriage. What are a couple of sham divorces? Well, except for the complete disinheritance of Mrs. Wilson, since Ralph would have to be married to Jim at his death. Polygamy legal anywhere?
  2. That's not the solution: estate taxes are on the estate, not the heir, so it doesn't matter if Jim Kelly inherits from the old man as a friend or as a son. However, there is an exemption for assets left to a spouse. So the plan would require a different sort of familial arrangement between Mr. Kelly and Mr. Wilson.
  3. Roscoe Parrish is not Wes Welker. Never mind coaching - even when Wes Welker was working with Mike Mularkey as his OC, with a sackload of crap QBs in Miami, he put up better numbers than Roscoe could dream of at WR.
  4. Fun fact: Only two QBs drafted by the Bills have EVER led the team to a winning record.
  5. I don't think it's surprising that Edwards is 1a going into camp. We have 1a, 1b, and 1c. The starter against Miami will come out of camp, not go into it.
  6. I'd guess that the press starts to say "How come X isn't signed" when they start hearing about Y being signed, so an extremely quiet run like this will slip under their radar.
  7. Steve Johnson got an honorable mention.
  8. Training camps start in about two weeks. That's just going to be a lot of legwork for teams, agents, and players to get everyone into camp. I wonder if the owners are secretly taking a harder line this year, so there will be a bevy of holdouts and greater pressure for a salary structure in 2011 and on.
  9. Yeah Vick's problem isn't so much on an inability to think logically, but an inability to decide to think logically.
  10. In most places it is in fact a crime. Either directly, or through the near-certain public indecency unless you piss through your pants. Doesn't mean that you should call the cops when you see it happen, of course.
  11. I mean, ultimately it's a negotiation, and you deserve what you can get away with. He can play the game until the first day of camp, and then I'll be annoyed at him. But I'm sure whatever he's holding out for will be worth more to him than my approval.
  12. Football Outsiders really deserves a ton of respect (except for their new trend of posting articles on ESPN Insider, in what is a painful irony). But this isn't a situation that they're good at predicting, and I hope they make some acknowledgement of that in the article. The Bills are going to be tough to predict this year (which is good because any logical prediction will be negative). There's a reasonably good chance that they'll end up starting Brian Brohm, who's a big blank slate. Their defense will transition radically, which might work really well and might not work at all - it's going to be very tough to know in advance. They added CJ Spiller, who may have significant but nontraditional value to the roster. And they dumped a historically bad coach. So it's really a who knows at this point. To be good, a lot of things need to work out in our favor. I wouldn't resent an oddsmaker for calling us low.
  13. http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/7/12/...ders-2010-bills Maybe that link will work. They predict us to be between 5-11 and 6-10, e.g. the same as last year, basically. A transition season is unlikely to leap you forward, it's supposed to lay the groundwork, unless you get lucky. Here's to getting lucky.
  14. Well, at least the millions he got from the Bills means he can safely retire if this condition really would kill him if he kept playing football.
  15. They're playing football out there every Sunday, not headsy-tailsy. There are some factors beyond random chance in terms of who wins the games each week.
  16. The key difference here is that JaMarcus wasn't hooked on painkillers, an addiction brought on by the treatment of the excessive pain of playing football, but was busted with a recreational drug that people use to get high. I don't know that much about purple drank, but my sense is that it's not something you use to recover from a torn ACL, or the chronic muscle and joint pain that football players suffer from, and treat with strong drugs.
  17. It takes some doing to get busted in your own home for a controlled substance that doesn't seep out the window in a smelly haze.
  18. Just for a quick survey: of the starting NFL QBs Could have drafted/signed as a UFA at some point: Tom Brady***, Chad Henne, Jake Delhomme, Joe Flacco, David Garrard, Matt Schaub, Kyle Orton, Matt Cassel, Tony Romo, Kevin Kolb, Brett Favre*, Jay Cutler, Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Clausen, Josh Freeman, Drew Brees*, Matt Leinart, Matt Hasselbeck Needed a top-5 pick: Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning*, Vince Young, Philip Rivers, Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning*, Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan, Alex Smith, Sam Bradford. Could have drafted, if we hadn't traded away our pick/overperformed: Ben Roethlisberger**, Jason Campbell. *s are for Super Bowl wins.
  19. So if the Bills are 9-6 and playing for a playoff spot in Week 17, you'd say "Screw this, the season's a waste, let's just lose and draft in the top 20?"
  20. I would honestly be shocked if there was a replacement player Super Bowl. It'd damage the NFL's brand too badly. They might play a replacement season, capped off by the World Championship of Football, but it wouldn't be a Super Bowl.
  21. According to wikipedia, he's the defensive coordinator for a high school team in Texas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Jones Hiring him was a disaster, refusing to fire him was inexcusable (although I think the whole thing was just an excuse).
  22. Also - why no Ed Wang? They have both our 7th round picks, and even a 6th rounder. Danny Batten is also missing.
  23. I definitely think you start Levi Brown if you're playing in Franchise mode. He's about on par with the others, and surely you can bring up those ratings a bit once he gets some Awareness.
  24. I mean, even ignoring the trade costs, do you want to pay the money VJ is asking for? I heard he wants $5-$7M/per season. Say 6 years, $35M with $15M guaranteed, somewhere in the middle of those demands. Do you pay him? For some reason - and it may be illogical - I just have a bad gut feeling about Jackson, and I'd hold on to our money to pay someone else.
  25. Fun fact: as best I can tell, Ryan Fitzpatrick is the last 7th round QB to start a game in his rookie year.
