Clausen hasn't shown anything in particular so far. There hasn't been much of an opportunity for him to do so, admittedly, but he looks like a QB who got passed over through the entire first round and a chunk of the second for a good reason. Good QBs have had stretches like that before, but bad QBs usually look like this.

I don't care what we do, as long as we get rid of George Edwards. If the best DC out there plays a 4-3, I don't see any major problem in switch back to it, as we've done such a piss-poor job acquiring talent for the current scheme. The players we brought in for the 3-4 or Dwan Edwards, Andra Davis, Torrell Troup, and Alex Carrington. Troup can join Kyle Williams in the middle, and Dwan can play LE while we search for a RE. Carrington's not a huge committment and Andra Davis can play inside or add depth. I'm not concerned about that level of investment.

Bills Could Have Gotten More for Lynch>

I wonder who leaked that to Glazer. I really hope it was Chan Gailey. -
Better than having 8 kids with 9 women, because that wouldn't even make sense.

Bills Front office needs to show some action

This has gotta be a trolling post looking for outraged responses, not a real complaint, right? -
so Robinson's what, a low-4th/high-5th? As QBs go, that sounds like backup material, at best.

What if Fitz gets hurt?

If Fitz gets hurt, his backup will play. That's the only thing that happens. Brohm might be awful. If he is, our offense will get worse and we'll score fewer points. This is what happens when any NFL starter gets hurt. However, other teams have to worry about winning games; we don't have that problem. -
Yep, Lot had sex with his daughters. Abraham only had sex with is wife, and his wife's slave.

Oh GOD NO.... Jauronism
silvermike replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's Gailey, not Nix, and he's not giving some blanket complaint about how everything about his job is hard, he's saying it's hard to get the same performance out of backups as starters: Do you disagree with that? -
Why would the league's interest in having hte Patriots win games even extend to fining or not fining their players? That seems...off topic. In any case, while I'm sure nobody was disappointed that that the most...patriotically...named team won the Super Bowl right after 9/11, it really doesn't quite seem like the kind of thing that would be worth a conspiracy that would fundamentally destroy the league's reputation if it was ever discovered. It's not like they had to keep out the New England Patriots' hated rivals, the Toronto Tories.

Man, is there any particular reason to think that blacking out games on TV actually works?

I generally don't think overhauling a defensive scheme is worth the effort, but I do think that long-term, the 3-4 offers more than the Cover-2. But we still have to put up with the transition, which is frustrating. I'd have rather just lightly transitioned the defense from a pure Tampa 2 to a more traditional base 4-3.

Spiller stands by himself, but as far as needs go, if Troup and Carrington pan out, our defense will be significantly improved. If they're quality players, we probably have a defensive line when you join them with Stroud, Williams, Johnson, and Edwards. The problem, of course, is that that's a HUGE if, considering neither has had significant playing time so far.

Littman may be a personality problem in the front office, but I don't get the hate for Overdorf. He writes out contracts. I don't know of any cases where the actual contract was botched. He doesn't choose the players, he doesn't set the budget, and he doesn't value the players. He manages the cap consequences of the contracts, etc.

I think we can't go the draft without picking up any pass-rushers or blockers, our two screaming needs outside of the QB position. So while it's worth biting on the quarterback if he's the man, I don't think we can wait until the 6th round before drafting a pass-rush LB. TE and ILB can muddle through.

Keep it going Nix....Im with ya!
silvermike replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, drafting Spiller is what I didn't get. But once we did, I'm fine with dumping Lynch, even for peanuts. -
As a Levy loyalist, I've forced myself to conclude that Marv had no actual authority, and all coaching and personnel decisions were made by Russ Brandon and Dick Jauron, while Marv cashed his paycheck and thought about golf all day from his office. Also, I've concluded that the Levy we hired in 2006 was an imposter. It's taking a lot of mental gymnastics, staying a Marv loyalist.

How high of a draft pick did we need to spend to get Fred Jackson? -
Did anybody else hear that guy on WGR yesterday?

Here's to ignoring sunk costs - the hardest task for most people. -
I saw the word "season" and immediately assumed it was "out for the season" rather than "I'm going to fight through it all season". Good for him

If we just assume that the team has no ability to draft quality players, then there's really no reason to even bother showing up on game day. You can't run a team on the premise that you're too dumb to run a team. -

I like Joique Bell too, and I wish we still had him on the roster, but I'm not really concerned that he's the next breakout UDFA. I think he's likely to have been a good 3rd RB option, like Chad Simpson would have. But then, neither has registered a carry in the NFL this season, so they may be purely preseason wonders. -
What picks do we have in 2011 draft?
silvermike replied to 95altima12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One of each, plus a 4th. We may earn some compensatory picks (if those are still around) for losing Terrell Owens and several other UFAs, while our signings were limited (Torbor and Davis were cuts, and wouldn't count against us, not sure about Green or Ayodole). -
The bottom line for me is whether or not Marshawn Lynch is better than Fred Jackson, with a time horizon of the two years left on his contract. After watching the past two seasons, I think that Jackson has been the better RB. With Spiller doing his thing, that means Lynch's role in Buffalo was going to be RB3, a position that's usually filled by a guy who plays special teams, gets one carry per game, and is at permanent risk of getting replaced by the next Andre Anderson to come down the road. Sometimes it's worth keeping the third-best runner if he's an unusually good pass-catcher (Kevin Faulk) or does great work in blitz pickup. Lynch isn't that guy. So basically, his value to us stays at "injury replacement" level, and backups are certainly important, we're talking about a third-string backup with no special teams play. I don't think our team is notably worse without him. So the question turns to compensation, and I mean, if we rejected an offer for a 3rd in April or August, that's on the front office for not anticipating the market accurately. Forgivable, perhaps, but wrong. I don't know for certain that that deal was ever there. But in October, you can only make the moves that are offered to you in October. There's a week until the trade deadline; I don't think a better offer was about to turn up. I don't think Nix ignored better offers in the past ten days. Green Bay didn't beat this offer. Philly didn't beat this offer. If they did, Lynch would be wearing Green. The mismanagement was in the books before this trade was made - maybe it was wrong to draft Lynch, maybe it was wrong to draft Spiller, maybe we should have traded Lynch in the offseason. At least one of those things is true. But that can't affect the decision-making today. And I think of it this way: with the BIlls current roster, what would I trade for an RB who's unlikely to earn carries, but if he had a full season, might be an 1100 yard guy? If the Lions called asking if we wanted Kevin Smith, what would we give up for him?
