  1. Moats was 4 when the streak started. That's as amazing as anything.
  2. Henne is bad enough that I think it's time Miami go back to the well and invest yet another pick in replacing Dan Marino. Sanchez at least deserves a little bit longer; he's shown flashes of something. Both teams would probably be well-served by a healthy Chad Pennington, which is a sad story.
  3. I got that response in Alaska. We really have quite a reputation - but Buffalo is really a better climate that the upper Midwest, Alaska, or rural New England, where I lived for a few years.
  4. I wonder if Moats is really rooting against Favre starting tomorrow.
  5. I have no interest in taking chances on 2nd round QBs. If, at our first round pick, Nix/Chan think that there's a real franchise guy on the board - Luck, Mallett, or Newton, depending on how the real scouting turns out - then they can take him. If they don't trust those guys, then we might as well hang tough with Fitz. Don't draft a QB unless you really think there's a better QB there.
  6. It's looking like he's the man who finally ended Brett Favre's streak.
  7. Didn't Joe Namath do a pantyhose commercial 40 years ago?
  8. If LA gets the Chargers, doesn't that just move San Diego to the top of the list for would-be moves for the next owner of the Bills?
  9. IR isn't the best indication of a team's health - it's often more a state-of-the-roster situation. A two-week injury for a marginal player might lead Chan to conclude that it's not worth going into a single game shorthanded, and replace him with a practice squadder. Six games of Antonio Coleman might be worth four of Keith Ellison, and so Keith goes on IR with a minor injury.
  10. The media watches the Bills when they're worth watching. It was painful to watch DJ games, even as a fan. Were there ever any highlights? The team this year isn't winning too often, but they play exciting games, make big plays, and play everyone hard. It's good football, and people who like football like to watch it.
  11. How many of the Bills key starters even have a full season under their belts as an unquestioned starter? Not Fitz, not Stevie Johnson, not Fred Jackson. Those guys play well, but they're still relatively inexperienced and they're going to keep getting better.
  12. There are no moral victories left on the schedule. Miami, Cleveland, and Minnesota are win-or-bust games. And there are no moral victories against the Pats or the Jets. It'll be a great finish to the season.
  13. http://www.profootballhof.com/enshrinement/2010/11/28/class-of-2011-semifinalists/ Edward DeBartolo, Jr., Owner Richard Dent, DE Chris Doleman, DE/LB Kevin Greene, LB/DE Charles Haley, DE/LB Lester Hayes, CB Cortez Kennedy, DT Art Modell, Owner Ed Sabol, Contributor Paul Tagliabue, Contributor Aeneas Williams, CB/S Tim Brown, WR Cris Carter, WR Roger Craig, RB Terrell Davis, RB Dermontti Dawson, C Andre Reed, WR Shannon Sharpe, TE Ray Guy, P Don Coryell, Coach George Young, GM Of special note on the list, I think, is Ed Sabol - founder of NFL films. That guy should have been in years ago - the NFL wouldn't have the status it does without the operatic themes of football highlight videos.
  14. If the Jets stay hot, we might be able to earn two wins for the price of one in December - beat the Pats, thus giving the Jets the division crown, and then we can destroy the Jets' backups in week 17.
  15. I don't want to mess with a part of our game that's working. Sometime, you just gotta roll with it.
  16. #1-2-3 has been untradeable in the recent past - the combination of the huge trade requests plus the huge salary demands has thrown off the equilibrium.
  17. Everybody was right about Stevie Johnson besides Dick Jauron. He was a fan favorite by the end of 2008. Why Jauron/Turk/Van Pelt hid him away afterwards is beyond me.
  18. The Bills are well-stocked to play a 4-3. Let's grab a dominant pass-rushing DE in April, and stick with what we're good at.
  19. If the Lions are closer, it's only because they play inferior competition in the NFC.
  20. Yeah, the Bills don't have a dominant receiving-TD guy. I think that the Kelly era tended to spread the ball around (Lofton, Beebe, Metzelaars, etc. pulling from Reed), and then also, the team finished drives on the ground. The Bills had 39 passing TD in 1991: Reed: 10 Lofton: 8 Beebe: 6 Thomas: 5 (receiving only) McKeller: 3 Rolle: 2 Metz: 2 Davis, Edwards, and Tasker: 1
  21. You guys ever watch Arrested Development? I'd say the Bills offensive line is up to a "Don't Buy"
  22. The max New York income tax rate is 8.97%. The Bills football payroll is 110,799,266, virtually all of them in the top bracket. That's about ten million dollars of state tax revenue right there, before you start working on all the other people the team employs, much less the broader economic benefits of the team.
  23. Fitz is a midrange starter; never going to be a top 10 guy, I think, and when everyone's healthy, he's probably going to be in the 15-20 range among league QBs. That's not terrible - those QBs regularly get to the playoffs, probably one or two most years. They rarely win the Super Bowl, and never do without incredible supporting casts. I think Fitz gives us the luxury of at least calling our shot at QB - if we miss Luck, we don't have to invest a top-5 pick on a likely bust like Jake Locker. But I think we need to be on the lookout every year.
  24. The scheming here is not that complicated - make sure that Calvin Johnson doesn't get open with the game on the line. He might beat your double team and make the catch, and that's how great players will make great plays regardless of defense. When he's got a middle LB in single coverage, that's scheme.
