We know what media scouts say, but they have something in common - none of them are good enough to work for an NFL team. Meaning their information is virtually certain to be worse than the 32 pro teams. The great unknown when anyone is denounced as a 'reach' by ESPN is comparatively how high that player was ranked on the draft boards around the league. We only know about the teams drafting before, not after. Donte Whitner could well have gone to Detroit, or at least, there could have been reason to believe that he would have. Or not.

Interesting Article ON OL Importance
silvermike replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm certainly inclined to agree with you, but then, I have to believe that Ross Tucker knows more than us. On the other hand, it's universally consistent that great line play leads to victories. So is it possible it's not the players, but the system? Guys getting to know how to work together? Being lucky? I have no idea. -
Does that trade check out on the ol' draft chart?
-
He was supposed to be an early day-two project who was a longshot to pan out but had some interesting potential. Then, somehow, he leapt up draft boards into the first round. And has gone bust.
-
Wait, so in point one, you think we won't draft a wide receiver because of the high cost of potential free agents. In point two, you think that we WILL draft a cornerback, because of the high cost of potential free agents?

If the Jets get MacFadden....
silvermike replied to Buffalo Mike1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep - they're doing it the way that Danny Snyder won all those Super Bowls. -
I know the rules say that compensatory picks can't be traded, but what keeps a team from just promising to draft a certain player, and then trade his rights for 'past considerations' or something like that? Would the trade be appealed and rejected? What's the justification for any of it?
-
If we played a 4-3, Bruce would have gotten more sacks, and Bennett would have gotten fewer and complained instead. Walt Corey was a problem, but the 3-4 wasn't. The defense just didn't have the personnel.

LenDale White cited in denver club

The question is - does Tennessee play Denver this year? Maybe this is Spygate III - he's getting the Broncos drunk so he can steal their playbooks. -
Read the article: If we were going to pay him that, we might as well have signed Samuel himself, or kept Nate.

Well, Lee Evans puts us pretty far ahead of the curve if we're comparing ourselves to the San Francisco all-star corps.

I strongly agree with this. Losman's not going to take over the team, and we're not going to do better for him than a compensatory draft pick in 2010. We have to figure out what we really expect from a backup quarterback. Our offense is set up right now to be good enough through the air to keep men out of the box and let our running game excel, while the defense and special teams keep them on the field. What our offense can't really work with is a quarterback who makes a lot of mistakes: Losman is a boom or bust QB. He can make great plays, but he also makes you bash your head against a wall sometimes. The Bills can't go from stable to risky when the quarterback goes down, they have to go from stable to simple. I don't like Losman or Quinn Gray in that regard, but is Byron Leftwich a free agent? He could work in a simple offense.

Can't link to that particular rival site. It's the same reason you can't say !@#$, sh--, !@#$, etc. -
What about offensive line in the first round?
silvermike replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm never going to object to taking another offensive lineman. That said, I think we also need two LBs, so adding Briggs only gets us halfway there. Lawrence Timmons might be on the board then, and he'd make our D fierce. Additionally, I think CB is still a higher need than WR. Still - Ben Grubbs would be a nice touch. I just don't know if you can count on the came-from-nowhere RB in the third. DOesn't happen that often. -

Tipster? What happend to TIPSTER19? -
Where would the new DL go? At DE, you have Kelsay just signed to a new deal, and Schobel returning from Hawaii. They're backed up by Hargrove and Denney - maybe Ryan could be improved, but do you want to spend a first day pick on a backup DE? Then inside, you have McCargo returning from an injury, the newly acquired Walker, Kyle Williams having broken out last year and then Larry Tripplett. Again, what spot on the depth char are you looking to fill? Williams/McCargo at the nose or Tripplett/Walker at the 3-tech?
-
I don't think we were targetting Okoye or Branch anyway. McCargo, Williams, Walker, and Tripplett are our top four DTs. Tim Anderson might be able to compete for the 5th spot, should we decide to keep one. I don't think a rookie first round pick or the four veterans already on the roster would even be considered for the 5th spot.

Vince Young is an exciting player. I don't think he deserved the cover, but he's probably going to be the most fun player to control in the game. Also, it's a freaking video game. The NFL didn't collapse in 1991 when Bo Jackson was an automatic touchdown in Tecmo Super Bowl, and it's not going to go to hell because Vince Young is a coverboy for Madden '08. -
IF he gets a 4th round pick, questionable at best, it would be in the 2009 draft. So the options for the Chargers are a 2007 2nd round pick or a year of Turner being your backup and a 2009 4th round pick.

Is there any chance we trade up?
silvermike replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the ideal draft starts with Willis, trades up from 43 into the end of the first to grab Timmons, adds a CB with the remaining third, and is followed by Marv convincing Chris Brown or Corey Dillon to come join the A-Train for a season. Take a first-day RB in 2008 when we're ready to make our run. -
What's this from? I mean, is it a Sabres-related thing, or just SI going city to city?
-
Yeah, we only need one RB. Zach Miller would be intriguing, if he drops to the third.

Say What you want about PFT and Florio.....
silvermike replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be fair, they dropped almost all the "Marv is old" jokes as soon as they saw what he was doing with the team. You know, paying attention to football instead of merely shouting "JACKED UP!" during highlights.
