  1. And they signed Kawika Mitchell that offseason.
  2. I'd rather they upgraded when they saw the opportunity rather than stood pat because of some concern for defending their legacy. The current regime is responsible for just about everyone on the roster right now, at minimum for extending their contracts. If we drafted along the offensive line, it would have meant someone was uncomfortable with the depth we established with Merz and Chambers. DE? Maybe it wasn't a great idea to re-sign Kelsay. LB? What, Ellison not working out? Every single position would show the door to some Marv/Jauron pick. It's about doing the best you can in the slot, and taking some risks even if they don't pan out.
  3. It was a solid draft. McKelvin and Hardy is about as good of a first day as we could reasonably expect to have. Even seeing how everyone went, I'm not sure if I would do anything differently - there's no DE worth that pick, and I think he was notably better than the other CBs on the board. And Hardy could be a very solid WR - certainly the equal of Devin Thomas. Ellis, I'm a bit skeptical of - he's a situational pass-rusher, and I think we needed more of a run stuffer. But we'll see; it's not like we were overflowing with sacks in the past few seasons. And after that, I get confused. Corner could be great value, but we had depth at CB at that point - wouldn't this be a great time to boost our thinnest position (OL?) Derek Fine - well, I honestly don't know anything about him, so if he can make some grabs and play some special teams and develop into a starter/2nd TE down the road, awesome. Bowen was a great pickup - a great guy for depth who can really play some STs. Omon - I've heard he projects to FB? We'll have to wait and see about that one because I have trouble believing he'll be a better FB than Schmitt or Hillis. We got on track in the 7th - Steve Johnson was projected in the 5th or so, and could be a late-round steal. Bell is a hulking tackle who helps us out at a weak position. And then we had the penultimate pick in the draft - who cares at that point?
  4. Every year, we eagerly turn our attention to UDFAs - guys who miss out on being drafted for some minor injury over an equally marginal player. However, every year, most teams have one or two UDFAs that make the roster, and across the league, there are always a few who have really distinguished themselves. The question is - why do we cut the draft off so early? There's clearly NFL talent still out there; why not have an 8th round? Or a 9th? There's enough competition for these guys that some get signing bonuses and in rare cases, pre-camp trades. What are the arguments against an 8th round? Boredom? You don't have to watch it, and hell, ESPN doesn't have to show it.
  5. I'll admit it - there were slim pickin's on the FA line before this weekend. But something has happened. Brian Brohm is a Packer. Matt Flynn is a packer. Lord knows, Aaron Rodgers is a Packer. But where does that leave Craig Nall? Everyone's favorite backup could well be out of a job in no time - and back where he belongs on the bench in Western New York!
  6. I heard he might not even have hall of fame potential. FIRE BRANDON!
  7. Most teams don't really agree on anything past the top 50 prospects. Much less agree with the various media draft experts. Kellen Davis must have impressed Mel Kiper more than any team for some reason. I'm inclined to go with the teams on this one.
  8. What's the weakpoint of our defense now?
  9. He's still a free agent.
  10. One pick does not a run make.
  11. Presuming we could have traded down, it's really more of a McKelvin or Sheppard+Merling kind of thing.
  12. What about Brad Cottam? He's raw, but he's huge.
  13. Well, knowing this board, I think they'll only be called LM and JH.
  14. Hey, with Brohm, does this mean the Pack will cut Craig Nall and we can use him to backup Edwards next year
  15. Oh, and I forgot that Cooley really broke out as an H-back in Joe Gibbs' system. That gets you Portis, Cooley, Davis, Thomas, and Moss on the field at the same time.
  16. Are they going to cut Randle-EL? He's down to 4th on the depth chart at this point, and it sounds like they'll be bringing out some two TE sets.
  17. Merling's a good player, but Brian Brohm is a great prospect, way better than the set of Lemons that they have down there. John Beck really had better be something special, now that they've passed on Quinn, Ryan, Brohm, and Henne for him.
  18. Well, if we had waited on a CB instead of a WR, there'd be slim pickins in the second round.
  19. Unless just about everybody goes WR between now and us, we'll have a shot at one of Sweed, Hardy, Kelly, Doucet, or Thomas. And someone will probably even take DeSean Jackson in there. I say we stay put. Though, to put this out there: what if Calais Campbell drops?
  20. Good gravy. I'm starting to get seriously worried about all of these wide receivers. Teams seem to be climbing over themselves, reaching, and trading out to avoid taking any of them.
  21. I don't know, I think of him as being more of a Brandon Stokely, Ricky Proehl, Drew Bennett type, myself.
  22. And to think, the godfather of the Tampa 2, Monte Kiffin, went CB with all the WRs on the board. Huh.
  23. We gave up a 2 and a 3 to get McCargo.
  24. So, how long do you wait? Is Devin Thomas worth next year's first and a fourth? This year's third and fourth? I'd be wary of giving up more than the 2nd and 3rd.
