  1. Yeah, it doesn't count. Yeah, it's the Colts and the Redskins. Yeah, Peyton Manning won't be playing. But goddamn it, for the first time in six months, there will be NFL football on TV.
  2. It's bizarre. And if this were misinformation being put out by the Bills, Peters could dismiss it with a single phone call. Unless his agent has no care for winning a publicity war with the team - a defeat that could cost him fan goodwill (read: endorsements) - this is the truth. I'm beginning to wonder if this is more Peters than Parker - his other holdouts are clearly stating their issues.
  3. My understanding is this - if you don't report by the 8th of August, you lose a year of NFL service - which affects restricted free agency, pensions, minimum salaries, and a few other things. However, you still can run off a year of your contract up until week 10. They seem contradictory in principle, but they govern different things. Since there's a possibility of an uncapped year in 2010, players would need six years of service to be UFAs instead of RFAs, rather than the usual four. Peters, though, is under contract, one way or another, until 2010, so he's not at risk.
  4. What kind of a signing bonus did he get from the Lions?
  5. The problem with the league right now is that players who hold out usually end up winning. Teams say they're going to take a hard line, then they buckle, and either give in or trade the fool off. It's a risk, but there's a reasonable chance the Bills will see what they have in the first preseason game and come crawling back to him. And if it's all for naught, he shows up in September and makes up to four million dollars. What's a couple hundred thousand when you've got those numbers to play with?
  6. Ken Kramer, CAA Football. Eugene Parker isn't the only hold-out master.
  7. 80 people playing a rough sport all day at high speeds. How many players get hurt over the course of an average NFL game?
  8. It may already be done - the Green Bay paper pulled a headline that went online titled "It's Over: Favre traded to the New York Jets" http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/p...ONTPAGECAROUSEL Now it's just about the talks - what do you think the Jets are giving up? And is there any way Favre lives through a season with the NY media, the AFC defenses, and worst of all, the Jets' offensive line?
  9. Don't forget, teams tend not to throw downfield too much when they're ahead.
  10. What's remarkable about his position is that if he wins, it really would have been worth it. It's a large bet, but unless Peters is spending his money like Travis Henry, he's got $3,000,000 in the bank from last year - even with an extravagant lifestyle, he's probably got at least a million left. That'll last him through quite a few 15,000 fines. If he holds out the entire season, gets traded, and gets a $7M contract - which would be a serious discount based on his missing the season - he'll have made back everything he's lost over the $3M salary he would have gotten in 2009. We're not in a great negotiating position here.
  11. I think it was a three way deal: Green Bay Receives: Jason Peters and JP Losman Toronto Receives: The Buffalo Bills Buffalo Receives: Brett Favre as new street-sweeper and waterfront developer.
  12. Is there a single position on the field where the Dolphins are better than the Bills?
  13. One thing about this agent seems to be that he doesn't negotiate in the media - he's not out there demanding attention for his holdouts. It's frustrting, because without that, you don't know what's going on, but at the same time, it seems like it keeps a lid on some of the bad blood. Think about Drew Rosenhaus's strategy - telling everyone who can listen what's wrong with his players' bosses.
  14. We traded McGahee and a 5th for Trent Edwards, Marcus Stroud, and a 7th. We are far better off without him.
  15. So, how'd it work? McGahee for Stroud and Edwards?
  16. Judgement Day is the first play Josh Reed goes in motion. If it's a pass, we're golden.
  17. Yeah - the key is just to make sure we don't run on every play Royal's in for an dthrow on every Schouman down.
  18. Watch Steven Jackson. That'll be the big domino to fall with this agent. The Bills take care of Evans, the Rams get Jackson, and then both sides will have a focus.
  19. ...cut...by...the...Raiders. He's going to have to make the team in New England before I worry about him. He'd have to beat out Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk, both of whom have had success with the team in the past.
  20. There's something fishy about the fact that McKelvin's contract is reported to be bigger than Mayo's. I have to believe that a term, an amount, and guarantees aren't really enough information to compare rookie contracts - there are far too many incentives worked into any of those deals. Mayo has more guaranteed money, and likely, will have an easier time reaching his escalators than McKelvin will.
  21. Doesn't that add up to more than 100%?
  22. This is what I hate about training camp - any part of the team that looks good almost certainly comes at the expense of another part looking bad. That's why I only pay attention to Rian Lindell and Brian Moorman.
  23. I would be very interested in seeing Brett Favre play a few downs with our wide receivers. You know, if he wanted to become a reporter and play with the team while covering training camp a little bit. But I wouldn't pay $10,000,000 and a high draft pick, plus sacrifice a year of development from Trent Edwards for the privilege.
  24. Also Ko's a FS and George is an SS, right?
  25. Well, in the month that Lorenzen has been an unrestricted free agent, I have to believe that we decided to pass.
