Actually, I have a fool proof remedy to the Dolphin stadium issue. Just institute a rule where the visiting team gets to choose which sideline to sit on and rescind the rule where the home team can decide which color jersey they wear. Home teams wear their home-colored Jersey and visitors wear white. I would hazard to guess that some shade would be installed on the "visitors side" post haste.

I second that recommendation. I've bought three copies, one for me years ago, then when my son got old enough to be a "serious" fan, my copy disappeared to his bedroom. I ended up getting him an autographed copy of his own to ransom my copy back. Two years ago, my daughter decided she wanted to join our fun and watch with us, so I bought her her own copy and made it required reading before she was allowed to comment during the game.

This topic is getting tiresome, so this will be my last post on the subject. The Bills are a pass first team, the reason they don't keep opposing DCs up at night trying to figure out how to stop our running backs isn't because the running backs are any worse than other teams, on the contrary they rank top 3 in YPC, they are not worried because the Bills run/pass ratio is so pass heavy. The reason teams game plan against the Barkleys and Henrys of the league is that they know they are going to see them carry the ball about a zillion times a game, with Singletary, if they see him carry the ball 10 times a game it would be a lot.

Thurman had two years with a 4.9 YPC 1991 with the Bills and 2000 with the Dolphins. His career YPC is 4.2 (below Singletary's 4.5 YPC this year and a career YPC of 4.6 in his 4 seasons)

I'm not quite sure I go as far as agreeing with that. I think a good running game is essential to a balanced team, and team balance is essential for a great team. There are just different ways to achieve a good running game. The Bills have Josh, who the opposing DC has to account for in preventing him from running, and we have a running back who has the third highest YPC in the league (among running backs with any significant of carries) with limited opportunities. That's just the way the team is built and it's fine with me. I'm not the type to try and find fault where none exists just so I can B word about it.

I have thought a minute, to have a bell cow running back, you have to give him touches. Henry 166 carries Barkley 163 carries McCaffrey 111 carries Taylor 107 carries Kamara 95 carries Singletary 71 carries Who knows how much better (or worse) Singletary would be if the Bills doubled his carries. As far as deleting Allen's strengths, for every carry you give to the running back you have to take away a passing play.

OK good that you brought up Barkley and McCaffrey, because they are the ONLY two running backs with an average yards per carry better than Singletary. Singletary has 4.5 YPC on 71 attempts Barkley has 4.8 YPC on 163 attempts (which equates to 10.8 inches per attempt better than Singletary) McCaffrey has 4.7 YPC on 111 attempts (which equates to 7.2 inches per attempt better than Singletary) All the other running backs have equal to or less YPC than Singletary. Are you willing to give Singletary the "workload" equal to those backs to see if he can equal or better their YPC (keeping in mind for every run play is one less passing play)

I don't think it's the quality of running back, I think it's more of the way the team uses their running back corps. As long as each individual running back only gets a hand full of carries per game, and as long as the team values a receiving running back as much as they do, I don't think a running back will be able to "showcase" his talent as a potential bell cow kind of guy. They have built the team around Allen's strengths, and every time he hands the ball off to a running back, he reduces the number of times he can pass the ball.

IMHO, as long as the team is constructed to be a "pass first" team I don't think we will ever get that dominant running back of which you speak. Josh is that guy who opposing teams have to account for as the "running back" who will spoil your day when a play breaks down (I just wish they'd cut down on the designed QB runs with the exception of an occasional QB sneak when appropriate). I saw a meme somewhere, and I'm just too lazy to look it up to see if it's true, that the Bills are the only team in the NFL that has gained 100+ yards on the ground in every game this season. If that is in fact true, our running game is just fine.

Many MANY years ago my dad was a member of a Bills QB club which held meetings in an Oriels club. They would invite players or coaches to the meetings to talk about the previous week's game. This was a time when players didn't make much money, so most would eagerly accept an invitation for a free meal and beer for the evening. One week, both Kemp and Lamonica attended the meeting, and after the meeting was over, everybody went to the bar somehow the discussion turned into who was the better Euchre player. My dad laughed and said, "I bet my son is better than both of you". they looked at me (all of 10/11 years old) and said he was on; the only condition was he and I couldn't be partners because a father/son team would surely have signals. We cut cards for partners and dad ended up with Kemp, I teamed with Lamonica. I was a hard-fought game, the last hand had them ahead 9 to 8 but it was our deal, so I felt we had a good chance to pull it out. The initial tricks went back and forth ... and then ... and then ... Kemp caught Lamonica in a renege. I always kind of felt that the embarrassment of the end of that game somehow contributed to Lamonica leaving the team for the Raiders.

I don't necessarily agree with your "cringe worthy" assessment, but what you say is true. Now that we have won this game the head-to-head tie breaker is in our back pocket, BUT if we let up for the next game or two it's all for naught. Last year the road to the Super Bowl SHOULD have come through Buffalo but a few boneheaded losses sent us back to KC. I kind of look at yesterday's game like I look at the first game of the season, it isn't necessary to win, but it sets a great foundation for the future. Now it's up to the team to take advantage of the opportunities that the future holds.

An easy way to correct the "problem" with the bench arrangement at hard rock stadium is for the NFL to make a rule that the visiting team in all games gets to choose which bench they want to sit on. I would hazard a guess that both sides of the field get shaded in a quick amount of time.

How far will the league let a team go in "building in an advantage"? for example; When the Bills build their new stadium can they put the visitors dressing room on the third floor with only stairs for access? Can they build the staircase with narrower than normal treads, can they vary the rise between the steps to greatly increase the probability of somebody falling down the stairs or at least twisting an ankle or knee? Can they put the staircase to the visitor's locker room about a block away that can only be accessed via dimly lit tunnels that have indiscriminately placed changes in elevations and steps? Can they design the stadium, so the shape creates a venturi effect with the winter winds that dumps it directly onto the visitor's bench? Don't get me wrong, it makes no difference to me if we win or lose the third game of the season, I'm only interested in making the playoffs and winning the LAST game of our season. The construction of hard rock stadium, and the rule that allows the home team to dictate which jerseys the visitors wear DEFINATLY create a "home field" advantage.

Overall ... it was the strangest thing the crowd was really sparse; I didn't see tons of people in the aisles streaming to their seats. then all of a sudden, the stadium was almost full. Bills Mafia was well represented, Dolphins fans were by and large good hosts. Other than that losing thing it was a good time.

At the game, about 20 minutes until kickoff and I'm surprised at how thin the crowd is.
