If the Jersey Jets show up and do anything less then trying to put our lights out I will be surprised. This is a team that plays with their back in the corner a lot and they thrive doing it. They will come at us fully charged and trying to lay a lick in. Our OL is going to be tested, Spiller is going to be knocked around, and Jackson is going to be hit all over - high and low. Lets hope the Zebras keep it clean.
I expect the Bills to give it back to them this time, not back down. That is the difference.

The Eagles were bad last year, and adding the flashy new coach and system did not suddenly make them good. Vick is and always has been very limited as a QB. McCoy is good, Jackson is good, Peters is over rated. The Eagles need a culture change, not just a system change, and Kelly needs a better QB to run his system.
The Chiefs are a talented team that suffered last year due to bad coaching, even worse quarterbacking, and decimating injuries. Alex Smith is no superstar but he is worlds better than what they have had, and Andy Reid is a great coach. They are going to be tough all year.
Very happy the Bills did not "win" the Chip Kelly sweepstakes. I think he will be an epic failure in Philly.

i don't think he was ever "not cleared". that's probably why he got a second opinion. he did say he played through it last year. so what, is it that much WORSE this year? despite resting it for 8 months, which is supposedly the only treatment? that doesn't make much sense. his own words betray his thoughts, he played through it before and this year he said he's not going out there until he's "100%". what more do we need to hear to believe he's milking it?
This is the only way to interpret his words and actions in my opinion.

I am confident the Bills defense can handle the Jets offense. It will really be about Manuel being able to find open targets in the face of what I expect will be an attempt by the Jets to flood the short zones with defenders and confuse Manuel with multiple rush looks. I would expect the deep plays to be open all day. The Bills will need to be able to complete passes down the seem and deep sidelines to pull the Jets out of a smothering short yardage look. Fitzpatrick was never able to beat this defense.

As I watched the Wall of Famers receive their jackets on Sunday it just seemed that the team that has been created on the field for this season finally has elements that made prior teams winners. Booker Edgerson and Billy Shaw from the championship years ... Joe D and Fergie from the Electric Company era ... Kelly, Andre, and Thurman from the 90's. Teams that wanted to win and teams that played hard on the field.
Since the turn of the century there has been one clear element missing from each team that has come out of the tunnel and that has been a hunger for winning. There have been players that wanted to win obviously and no athlete shows up to lie down on the field. However, the hunger and the commitment to winning just never has seemed as apparent as what I am sensing from Doug Marrone's team. Watching the veteran leadership in Fred Jackson as well as the exuberance of Eric Wood whose swagger has to energize his teammates and then there is EJ, just a kid. EJ has the "it" factor and every interviewer who has commented on their conversations with EJ whether local or national media all refer to how he controls the room. His teammates talk about his confidence and we are just beginning to see his abilities.
Since my first Bills game the Rockpile in 1962 versus the Dallas Texans through this Sunday, I have always "bled Bills' red, white and blue" but I am so looking forward to more dancing and shouting post game moments like this past Sunday. We are headed in the right direction and I know that on home game Sunday's there is no other place that I would rather be at than THE RALPH to cheer my Buffalo Bills as a proud member of the WALL OF FAME!
Great post.

Miami became number 1 after during/after the decade of futility. We enjoyed beating the crap out of them for the next ten years. Before that it was NE, now it is clearly NE, for the same reasons. The Jets have always been right up there. Traditionally, there are more fights at Jets games, in the parking lot and stands, than any other. Their fans are just so obnoxious, and there are lot of them in town.

It was a very nice article. I'm even willing to look past him bringing up out past failures after big wins. But Jerry is a weathervane and he will turn in the first ugly wind.
PTR
No question about that, but I did like today's piece. That's one in a row.

I have very often been critical of Sullivan on this forum so just wanted to say that I was very impressed with his article today. I enjoyed the read.

McKelvin did play well yesterday. In fact, late in the first quarter he defended a pretty deep pass at the last second, and this was a simply great play.
But I must say, he still scares me.
I know what you mean - his first 4 years body of work was unimpressive to say the least in the secondary. However, I thought he began to play much better toward the end of last year and has been great so far in the first two games. He did a tremendous job on Steve Smith yesterday. He broke up passes, tackled soundly when he did not break it up, and generally frustrated Smith and Newton all day. 5 catches for Smith - great job. Had to be targeted 3X that much. What scares me is the other side without Gilmore and Brooks. A good QB and receiver would have eaten them alive on that side. They were fortunate Ginn had only one long touchdown - he was always open.

Do you get paid to run the fun club or is it more of a volunteer thing?

Just saw on the ESPN crawl that Byrd says he played through the PF last year, but this year he needs to be 100%. If that proves to be an accurate quote, then I would say there is little lingering doubt that Byrd is simply dogging it to make a point and I hope it backfires on him big time..

I enjoyed the game. I still have faith in Marrone and the team, and like Manuel. All I'm saying is the hire likely was made because of personal connections and not, necessarily, as the best available candidate. Does that not concern you?
You are way off base. It is a bit early to hit the panic button. Take your medication.

Thanks for posting. Guaranteed the only thread I will read today. I was very impressed with the Defense overall - solid hitting, agressive, pressured Brady. Good effort and a sign of good things to come. Obviously a very vanilla offensive plan. I thought Manuel looked good for the most part although the deep balls were disappointing.
A very winnable game, but too many stupid mistakes to win. A very disappointing loss but I am encouraged. this team will grow from here.

Torn labia?
I think that is the same injury Jairus Byrd has

Upset of the week.

I've already said my piece on Sanchez, and I don't care to reiterate. Like I said before, we can disagree....plain and simple.
Now Geno is, what...22 or 23? Far to young for anyone to be making declarations on his ability to mature. I agree that the media has done its best to make him look like a Turd, but that's it at this point.
Geno Smith does not the media to make him look bad. He does that all by himself. No media conspiracy necessary.

Here we go again. Another dismal rebuilding season. All the optimism of the offseason is over. Prepare to have your heart broken and many sad Monday mornings Bills fans.
You are quite the ray of sunshine. I prefer to bask in the glory of everlasting early season hope, thanks very much.

This is off the current discussion thread a little, so sorry about that, but I find it interesting that the Toronto Sun has a story quoting Byrd as squelching the trade desire rumors, while the Buffalo media braintrust has nothing to say about that. Just interesting is all. Carry on.

I happened to catch him on NFL Network yesterday. His profile seems to be rising but I cannot figure out why. He had absolutely nothing remotely insightful to say. Arrogant twit.

My position here is that the Franchise Tag is part of the equation, whether players like it or not. It is not as if Byrd did not have any choice in this matter. He did. He could have chosen to accept what ever offer the bills made, in which case he would have received his signing bonus and long term deal. Or he could have chosen not to. Byrd chose not to accept the offer. He also knew at the time of his decision, it would mean signing and playing under the one year tag or sitting out the season - or until he got traded. He then chose to sign and play for one year. There is no blame on either side because we do not know the details of the negotiations - and I have no ill will against him for making the decisions he made. However, once he made the decision to sign and play, he should have reported in time to learn the new system, get into playing shape, and be ready to play the opening game. I have no idea how serious his foot condition is. What I do see, is someone who wanted to take a purely business approach (which is his right) and then feel like it is personal when the organization does the same thing (which is their right). In the end, I see a player that has not been there for his teammates...and that is something I do have a problem with.
Exactly how I feel.
As for the "news" that Parker is trying to orchestrate a trade, what exactly did anyone expect? This is his MO, and since it has worked with the Bills before, he is trying it again. This is more of a media story, and paranoia of the fans, than anything else right now, I think. I expect that when the bullets start flying Byrd will be on the field and playing hard. If not, you would have to seriously question his character, and I do not expect it. We will see.
I have said it in other threads, and I'll say it here.... next up is Alex Carrington, Parker's other client currently on our roster, time to bench him now and cut your losses while he has yet to develop into a good player. Let someone else grow into our system.
I did not realize that. Too bad. Good as gone, now that he finally seems to be ready to play to his potential.

I'm in this camp, and since it isn't my money I'd franchise him again next offseason whether he contributes or not. That might seem to be a stupid business move, but, until the FO shows that they are willing to use every word in the CBA to their advantage they'll be walked on again and again.
I agree. This is happening because Parker got the Bills to buckle with Peters employing the same tactics. The Bills also buckled with Clements, agreeing not to franchise him the following year.

this
No question. I am not worried about the offense - all about the defense keeping it close.

I really can't believe we didn't address the other CB spot opposite Gilmore in the offseason. Now we are in a real mess now that Gilmore is out. Brady is going to pick these guys apart. Nothing frustrates me more than seeing Brooks or McKelvin 10 yards off their man and then watching them do a little curl or out and picking up 7-8 yards every play. These guys need to get physical this week imo
They did address the other corner in the offseason - they resigned McKelvin - who actually looked pretty good toward the end of last year when he got back in the DB line up. It hurts having Gilmore out no doubt, but I do not expect Pettine to adjust his style and plays the CB's "10 yards off". They will be pressing and physical. Brooks can hit and is faster than any of the Patriots receivers. The key will be covering Amendola - besides that they have no one to be afraid of. Lets see how Danny Boy does after getting rocked a few times. I am quite sure the game plan will be to hit their receivers often and hard. No comparison to any of the previous defensive coaches we have had.

well, its possible it didnt show up. its also possible he didnt truly show 100% health but was an injury risk they were willing to accept in the signing. when the alternative to signing him was releasing him, id rather hold his rights at this point, wouldnt you?
It is my understanding that this problem can only be diagnosed via the symptoms reported. That is why this is an awfully convenient injury to have if your intent is not to play. I guess we will see, but I tend to think it will be fine by the end of December.
Something tells me we're gonna beat the Jets!

Exactly. I think the Bills have the advantage in this matchup. Pettine know Ryan and should be able to help the game plan counter the expected defense. Ryan does not have this advantage with regard to the Bills offense. Advantage Buffalo. On Defense, while Ryan certainly knows Pettine, Pettine is not simply running Ryan's defense, but being creative with his own ideas. Advantage Buffalo. EJ vs. Geno - advantage Buffalo. Running game - advantage Buffalo. Receivers - advantage Buffalo.
If EJ can beat their aggressive pressure at the line and the short zones to hit some mid-range throws early in the game, it could be a long day for the Jets. I expect Buffalo to win this game. It could be a close 1 or 2 point low scoring affair, but I would not be surprised with a 34 - 13 score either.
