I said "Talk is Cheap" and was attacked by PTR for it. So what are you talking about? Get your facts right!!! Now I am definitely attacking your inaccuracy!!

I do have my facts right. You called PTR "pathetic" which was the point of the bolded line. Still waiting for your suggestions or specific rationale for why today's announcement was not positive. I have read all your bitches in this thread.

  2.

Thanks, already knew that. It's downright pathetic however.

Actually, what is pathetic is your insistence on criticizing others who want to express a valid opinion. Of course the proof is in the pudding as you say. However, hard to see today's announcement as anything but a positive development. While the towns folk with pitchforks were certainly hoping Nix would be fired as well, this would make absolutely no sense at this point in terms of attracting a top flight coach. Having control of the decision making resting in Buffalo with a committed executive team rather than an absentee owner who is clearly not on top of his game is what many have been screaming for. I have yet to see on this board any rational alternatives suggested. If you have some suggest them, but spare us the "hard bitten realist" act while condemning those who might look for the positive aspects of today's news.

  3. Someone please show me when Nix/Whaley have failed to re-sign a FA that they wanted to keep.

Until then, I have a few examples of pending UFAs for you to consider:

    Kyle Williams

    Erik Pears

    Stevie Johnson

    Fred Jackson

    Scott Chandler

    Kraig Urbik

    Fitzpatrick

    George Wilson

Now, you may not agree that they should've paid the above, and that's fine. However, it's folly to say that they don't re-sign their own when they want to. In fact, the only guys they've let walk without a fight were Whitner and Poz. Clearly, they wanted to move in another direction, since they didn't even make an offer.

Let's see what happens with Levitre, but my guess is that both he and Byrd are re-signed.

You are right on with this post, except the Bills did make offers to both Whitner and Poz, and according to reports at the time, the offers were very comparable to what they eventually received. Both wanted to leave.

  4. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/12/11/bills-marcell-dareus-overcoming-latest-in-series-of-tragedies

Have not seen this posted. Good article on the Toronto Sun today discussing the struggles Dareus has had this year and his turnaround the past few games. I think it puts a little perspective on his performance this year vs. last and why those who are calling him a "bust" may be a bit pre-mature in their judgement of this young man.

  5. Address it in the first or second and I am fine.........Fitzless 2013 and color me happy.

The Bills should address QB in the draft if at all prossible, but you are dreaming if you think that takes Fitz out of the equation. Barring another Luck or Griffin level talent in this draft, which there does not appear to be, I think the chance of Gailey playing a rookie over Fitz next year are about nil. Unless Fitz gets hurt, or a franchise capable QB becomes available via trade or free agency, or Gailey gets fired, Fitz will be the QB. People need to start dealing with this reality.

  6. lol, not even close. Here is another classic example of "The backup QB being the most popular guy". Except this time it's DT.

Dareus has had a bit of a sophomore slump and Carrington has played well in his limited opportunities, but let's not get crazy.

Agree. I am pleased to see Carrington making plays, but Dareus is the better player despite his slump this year. The player we saw last year in Dareus was not an illusion. He is talented and capable and I am betting he will rebound next year, despite the fact that many fans seem to have given up on him and want to call him a bust.

  7. Kyle Orton is a possibility. Another guy is Matt Moore. I'm surprised neither one have been given a shot somewhere to be a starting QB.

Orton has had more than one shot to be a starter, in both Chicago and Denver. Not sure why anyone believes he is an upgrade. Moore has career back up written all over him. You might say "so does Fitz" but hard to see either of these guys as a better choice.

  8. WOW!!! what a freaking moron, he must be just trying to soothe Fitzys feelings so he can get the team through the season.

There is no way he can think Fitz is the future, if he does he is going on blind faith which is no faith at all and needs to be replaced immediately!

    Ralph please sell the team.

What do you expect him to say? Cut his QB off at the knees in the middle of the season? How does that help? I doubt any of us has any idea what he really thinks. He is playing with cards he is dealt. Fitz is the best and only option on the roster for now.

  9. A very good defensive effort against Colts, and a poor offensive effort by Bills, leads to heavy criticism of Chan, while Wanny slides under the radar. But not so fast. A number of poor defensive calls lead to Colts picking up first downs on third and long situations. But the absolute worst, and the reason why Wanny just does not get it and why he must go, was Colts last possession. Less than 2 minutes, Colts have 3rd and 10, Bills have no timeouts. A first down by Colts ends the game. So what is Wannys defensive call? Well you can see for yourself if you have NFL rewind, but here it is - he has his safeties lined up 20 + yards off the line of scrimmage. He is still trying to prevent the long pass when a 10 yard pass ends the game. And that's why Gilmore is left in single coverage on the Colts # 1 receiver, and why the Colts pick up the game ending first down on a 10 yard pass. Because our genius DC conceded it. A long pass or a 10 yard pass both end this game. It's a little harder to complete a long pass ( see Ryan F.) but good old Wanny is going to take that long pass away by playing his safeties back and losing the game.

Kind of like a baseball game; tie score, bottom of 9th, less than two outs, runner at third. You bring the outfielders in to play shallow, because a long fly ball ends the game whether its caught or not. Wanny plays his outfielders deep.

    Very good point.

  10. I think it is highly unlikley that either Nix or Gailey are fired. Wilson seems very near the end. I think it is unlikley he wants to or is even capable of going through the coaching/GM circus carousel again. This team does have talent. It needs a long term upgrade at QB. It needs to address a couple of weak spots on defense. While it may also need a change at Head Coach, and I am really starting to lose faith in Gailey, I just do not see them taking that track this year, with so much of the team's future up in the air. Just the way it is I am afraid. I would not be surpised to see Nix step down for Whaley after the draft, nor would I be surprised if Nix tried to force some change in approach of the Coaching staff, but wholesale change is not coming no matter how loud the fans scream.

Once the future of the team is more clear, whether in Buffalo or not, they will be open for business. Status quo until then.

  11. Well, your entire point is incorrect. If you want to knock some individual draft picks, fine. But you arent even close to looking at the whole picture.

First and foremost, he revamped the Scouting and Personnel departments and hired one of the most sought after guys in the league, stealing Doug Whaley away from Pittsburgh. Besides re-vamping the entire Front Office staff he also did the following...

To address the Oline he has brought in Erik Pears, Kraig Urbik, and Chad Rhinehart, and has drafted Chris Hairston and Cordy Glenn. We now have one of the best OLs in the league. With quality starters and depth.

To address the Dline he has re-signed Kyle Williams to a contract extension, signed FA pass rushers Mario Williams, Mark Anderson, Shawn Merriman, and Kyle Moore, and has drafted Marcel Dareus and Alex Carrington. While it's agreed that these guys need to step it up on the field, that isn't on Buddy. He has brought in the talent, now it needs to perform.

Before we even get any further, look that over again, and realize that Buddy and Whaley have done exactly what Bills fans have been screaming about for years, and that is making TOP priority addressing the trenches, where it all begins. In 3 seasons (and missing an offseason due to the lockout), he has brought in the most talented Lines this team has had since the Super Bowl years.

He drafted CJ Spiller, and if anyone wants to continue to argue that he was a wasted pick and/or bust then they can just GTFO right now. Adding to the weapons, he brought in Scott Chandler as a FA, signed David Nelson and Donald Jones as UDFAs, he drafted TJ Graham who has already been a contributor in his rookie season (although the jury is still out on all rookies). He extended Freddie Jackson, and most importantly re-signed Stevie Johnson to a very fair contract before he ever hit Free Agency and an incredibly overpriced WR market. Imagine that, a Bills FO that re-signs its own talent. Amazing.

Regardless of what people were (incorrectly) saying earlier this year, Kelvin Sheppard is a good MLB. When he is in the game, he makes plays and stops the run at the line of scrimmage. We get gashed in the running game when he is out and our LBs are Scott and Barnett.

Speaking of Barnett, even though his play this year has fallen far off from previous years, it was at the time another good signing by Nix. I am more than confident we will be seriously addressing OLB this next offseason.

Stephon Gilmore has looked good as a rookie, and we havent seen enough out of Ron Brooks to make any judgement yet. A Williams has underperformed this year, but that happens. Nix hasnt needed to address the Safety spot much, but will be doing so this year. To that end, Searcy has been playing well in his limited roles.

I know you're going to want to throw around names like Troup and Wang. No one bats 1.000 in the draft. And the GM does a heck of a lot more than just draft.

Are there some misses? Of course.

Are there some big misses? Unfortunately, yes.

But to grade his performance so far as "putrid" is straight-up wrong. He has built an entire roster almost from scratch, while keeping those that deserved to be kept. There are still a couple holes remaining, namely QB and OLB, but to re-build a franchise and within 3 years only having a couple holes is an incredible job.

Great post. Unfortunately, those who want to limit their analysis to "the Bills suck" will miss the point.

  12. Why would McKelvin be likely gone? Because he's performing at an all pro level on ST's ? Williams IMO is lost as a CB, move to safety or cut the cord. McK has outperformed AW at CB as well in his limited duty IMO.

McKelvin is a free agent, as are Byrd and Levitre. I seriously doubt that Mckelvin is a high prioity for the Bills. He is only on the field at DB because of injuries. I doubt he will stay for what will likely be a fairly low offer, suitable to a return specialist and backup cornerback. He has had 5 years to prove himself at DB and has not. Williams is young, under contract, and has more potential.

  13. And why exactly does anyone think SF would trade him? After the game, Harbaugh indicated he may start ahead of Smith next week. SF has no big committment to Smith and drafted Kaepernick 36th overall. He is not going anywhere.

Williams had a first round grade to few "experts". At the time it made sense. We needed a DB. Mckelvin was sucking, McGee was hurt, and we lost the only good corner we had the year before to the saints.

Also, while people are understandably down on Williams as he has had a tough second year, he looked great last year and everyone was saying what a steal he was. Way to early to give up on Williams, and yes, the Bills did need a CB. Guess what folks, they will again this year. McGee is done and McKelvin is likely gone.

  14. Don't we also need to resign Urbik and Byrd? Not sure how much $$$ we'll have for FA.

I think you reallyu mean Andy Levitre so I will assume that. I think the chances of resigning either of these players is going down exponentially week by week. This is less an issue of money available than the state of the team. Both of these players will be highly prized free agents, perhaps the best available at their positions. I just do not see them commmitting early to the Bills given the continued losing. Perhaps had the Bills done more to show significant turnaround and real competition witht the better teams in the league Nix could have made a case for both of them to stay. (still not too late for this but looking unlikley) As it is, these guys would be crazy not to shop around. They are both going to get big contracts.

  15. More changes...

The Bills have signed CB Crezdon Butler and OT Thomas Welch to the 53-man roster.

    So who got cut?

    PTR

The IR'd two players yesterday, a CB and a OL, and cut Potter. They only added Easley, so this fills out the 53.

Looks like OBD has started looking towards 2013 already. Player development and evaluation starting.

    Here's to the draft!!

Not sure where you get this conclusion based on two injured palyers being sent to IR, and cutting an ineffective kick off specialist, but carry on.
