Well-Thought-Out CBA Negotiation Article
CosmicBills replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
PR spin control. The main issue is money. Always has been. Always will be. And the owners decided to create a system where they pay their employees a percentage of the total revenue. When they did that they created a partnership. But they expect the players to take their word on what that total number actually is. On trust alone. Now, there isn't a business in the world that would agree to sign a new deal based on this principle without seeing the books. The fact that the NFL is insisting that they met the players' finical demands is a bold faced lie since the desired number is a percentage of a number the owners refuse to acknlowdge. If the owners didn't have anything to hide they would show the books. If the leave was really not making record profits and generating record revenues, they'd show their books because it would take whatever leverage the players have away. The 18 game schedule and rookie cap are side shows. It's about the money. -

Actually they did. They pissed in every NFL fans' cheerios by forcing this work stoppage. The players want to play. The owners don't. -
Well-Thought-Out CBA Negotiation Article

Whatever goodwill the Owners had left is now gone. Smith made a brilliant move by stating they'd take an extension if the owners were willing to submit 10 years of audited financial information along with the submission. The owners declined. That's on them. For the owners to let this thing go this far off track simply by being unwilling to open their books when they are partners with the players is totally absurd. What are they hiding? This is going to be ugly. If I'm the owners, I'm terrified right now because this will once again change how the league is run. Just like how Free Agency was forced upon them. It's going to get ugly. And now Judges are going to decide how the league will be run in the future. And the ridiculous statements made by the NFL after the decertification (that they agreed to meet all the NFLPA's numbers) is an outrageous, bold faced lie. The players are paid a percentage of revenue. Yet the owners are unwilling to show what that total revenue number ACTUALLY is. So, without showing what that number is, how can they agree to anything? -
Yeah, it has the look and feel of 80s Spielberg. Which I LOVE.

I just assumed his suck-atude was well known enough to casually drop "Bay" and have people know. Apparently I'm not too good at this posting thing ...
-
No disagreement here. But there's a difference between a Michael Bay movie that just explodes to explode. And this which actually looks like it has a very cool story.
-
Sure, but it's different than Bay ... in terms of it looks like a real story and actually compelling. But they have to load up the trailer with explosions and action to draw people in.
-
I know I'm not the only one excited about this flick ... Check out the new trailer. It looks awesome!

Charlie Sheen ladies and gentlemen, Charlie Sheen
CosmicBills replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I hear what you're saying, but there's a limit. And that comes with insurance. It's not something that's talked about much, but right now there isn't a company that will insure Sheen to work. Not one. Which will make it impossible for him to work on any studio/network project for the foreseeable future. The caveat to that is if he happens to win his law suit (which, he has a chance to, believe it or not). He's hugely popular now. The most recent episode of Men was the highest rated show of the MONTH -- and it was a rerun. The show is still gold for WB and CBS and will continue to generate millions of dollars in syndication whether or not they produce another episode. CL will never work with him again, I've never worked with either but CL's history on Grace Under Fire shows how he deals with actors who call him out ... right or wrong, Lorre is one of the most successful showrunners in town -- Big Bang and Mike & Molly are huge hits (no pun intended), he'll be fine with or without Sheen. But sheen is going to find a tough road ahead. Doesn't mean it's impossible though. One road I see him taking, and it may be the best one to take, would be to go back to features. He couldn't do it for a few years (maybe 5) -- but come back in a small supporting role (where insurance would be minimal) on an oscar bait type film and build from there. I think he's done in TV. No one will touch him outside of the reality shows. But, that's just my worthless two cents. And I do mean worthless ... This is true! -

If he truly did that, I'd agree 100%. However, the Funny or Die thing seemed to be some sort of damage control more than anything. He officially launched his suit against WB today and Chuck Lorre so I doubt it was really a ploy all along. You don't sue one of the biggest studios in the world for a gag. ... well, not if you ever care about acting ever again in anything outside of a student film. -
Going offense is the quickest way to turn around the win-loss record on this team. It wouldn't shock me if they loaded up on offense -- however, the draft seems to be loaded with more defensive playmakers than offensive ones, which makes me suspect they will just go BPA (a mistake in my opinion).

I had to read it a few times to see if it was sarcastic. And it might be (?). If so, well done!
-
Well, at least you're being original. Newton has been compared to a lot of QBs, but Rob Johnson? Really? There is no element of their games that are the same. None.

I agree -- the Funny or Die thing wasn't that funny. His rants are funny because he seems truly unhinged. But the fact that he has this (fairly) polished and slick piece which clearly makes fun of himself shows that he's far more self aware than we thought. Which, also makes it less funny. -
The fact that he cried made me like him even more. I know that sounds weird, but it was about as "real" of a moment as you will find on a reality show. He clearly loves the game and was there to win it. It's a bummer to see him go so early, but this is Rob's game to lose now. I'd love to see him finally get a win ... fourth time's the charm!
-
If they take Newton (and I'm not sure they will even if he's there), the depth at DL and LB is such that they will be able to get an impact player at 34 and they should.
-
Do you realize how much effort that takes?? All the typing and clicking ... God I hate myself.
-
I would love to play but don't have poker stars! BOOO! um ... I do have Full Tilt. Can the world revolve around me?
-
... I appreciate your passion but I'm not sure I'm following the flow here. You are anti-NFLPA and are on the side of the owners (I think?) but also want no cap (something the players would LOVE) and guaranteed contracts (something the Owners feel would ruin the game). I'm not sure really what you're trying to say here.

Don't waste your breath. WEO doesn't have a grasp of critical thinking, logic and finer points of discourse and debate let alone the patience or capacity needed to truly understand both sides of this complex issue. He keeps proving it with every post (on pretty much every topic). He's not interested in discussion or open to other points of view. He's dug himself into a corner (for no reason) and even when he's so clearly proven wrong, he refuses to admit it because he views any wavering as weakness. Which is pretty much the definition of a blowhard. But it's entertaining to witness. I like the front row seats.

Stop pitching my ideas!!! I had Warners up to 750k until they read your post! -
Also let's remember, they AREN'T asking for more money. They are asking not to have their pay CUT. Big difference. If the owners wanted to keep the current CBA the players wouldn't mind.

NFL/Players extend lockout deadline
CosmicBills replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think it was the mediation as much as it was the recent ruling and the obvious change in public perception of the owners ... Still, I don't think the owners cave just yet.
