Buddy Nix to retire after 2012 draft?
CosmicBills replied to Jdragon2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...and yet they still haven't won as many games as Jauron's awful teams did. Gimme a break. This team is absolute garbage. It's been garbage for 12 years and counting. Is it a finer shade of garbage than we had 3 years ago? Probably. But it's still an organization that isn't trying to win. That starts at the top. Not the way Nix does it. -

Better than DJ? Shouldn't we aim a little higher than JUST being better than Jauron? Then again, in this case, there hasn't even been any improvement. DJ won 7 games multiple times and finished second in the AFC East. Jauron was a trainwreck. Nix and Gaily haven't been any better. Not where it counts. At some point you have to realize the problem isn't the coaches or GMs. It's the owner. The fish rots from the head, and this franchise has been the laughing stock of the NFL for over a decade. And you defend it. -

Yup. And he did nothing to make this team better. Because Ralph and his cronies are still very much in charge. -
The new NFL is a passing league
CosmicBills replied to Picnic Table F'er's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your analogy is flawed. The league didn't become a passing league just because teams started to win with it. The anchovies weren't JUST following the leader. The league became a passing league because that's what the NFL wanted to see happen. The NFL changed the rules of the game to cater to a pass happy and scoring frenzied approach because that's what fans wanted to see. People don't tune in to watch games that finish 13-6. Again, you can buck the trend if you want, and the Bills have been doing that for 12 years. Look where it's gotten them. -

What's the change of direction? Was it taking a RB in the first round? No, the Bills had done that plenty of times before. Was it adding solid depth to a roster in dire need of it? Nope. Not that either. Was it towing the company line that has existed since Ralph has owned the team? Yup. -

Get back to me when Denver wins the super bowl (or a playoff game) with him under center putting up those numbers. Thanks! -

Um, 51 years of operational ineptitude. -

Hey, you think it's easy to plant evidence while underwater?! You have to account for the tides, your o2 levels AND watch out for the bends! All that while also trying to catch the infamous white whale (who, is really just a coked out seahorse). -

... But it didn't. So you can keep your theory, I'll stick with actuality. -

Scuba Cops?!?!?! I don't know how that hasn't been a show before. Do they fight crime underwater? In Utica they probably just wear their gear, mask and fins and walk around since there's not much water around. -

There is a lot of truth to that. I won't for a second argue that injuries didn't cost the Bills some games. Of course, everyone before the season who wasn't blinded by homerism knew that this roster was thinner than Kira Knightly after a 2 week fast. The blame for that lies squarely on the front office (Nix AND Whaley) as well as Ralph and LittleMan. Even so, had the Bills shifted to a run first attack there wouldn't be a difference in the W/L column which is the OP's point. Running the ball alone won't win games. This isn't 1978 anymore. -

That won't happen unless Ralph is gone. This franchise is stuck in the stone age when it comes to coaching, front office personnel and talent. And it all starts at the top. -

The defense was horrific, yes. But you can't win today's NFL with ball control alone. It's too easy for (every) offense to score with the rule changes and the athletes on the field in the skill positions today. Even the best defenses are going to give up yards in bunches in today's game. Even the best defenses are going to give up more than 1 TD a game. Just controlling the clock will not work -- it will get you only so far. Look at Denver since Tebow took over. Their defense is light years ahead of where the Bills' D is. They strung together some wins but backed into the playoffs and are going to one and done unless Tebow learns how to throw the ball over night. The Bills need improvement on D, no question. But regardless of how good the defense becomes, this team will not go back to the playoffs until it fixes the QB, WR, and OL. Offense doesn't just sell tickets anymore. Offenses win super bowls. Not defenses. -

It's not "the new NFL" anymore. It's been a passing league for nearly 8 years. The Bills -- as an organization and as a fan base -- are well behind the curve on this (as they usually are). This is why you don't see RBs go high in the first round anymore (well, unless you're the Bills). The Spiller pick, as was said many times when it happened, was a sure sign that Nix and company are still playing in a different era. This team is not built to pass. From the O-Line to the QB to the WRs. It's not really built to do much of anything other than to continue to break our hearts. -

Bills slighted in article on Maher tweet

So seeing a smattering of his show (on the network? like ABC? as in over 11 years ago?) and that's enough to make a blanket statement such as he's a propagandist for Israel. Got it. Your post is the example of everything that is wrong with political discourse in this country. Thanks for pointing it out to the few on here with fully functioning frontal lobes. Ha! I'm not defending Maher's comedy. Comedy is subjective. The point is there are so many other (valid) reasons to hate on Maher (such as not finding him funny) that pulling such a crazy, (not to mention dangerously ignorant) card out of your hat such as "he's a propagandist for Israel" is not only false, it's retarded. -

Soooo... You don't even have HBO, so you don't watch his show. Yet you continue to make the claim he never says a word against Israel. If you had actually ever seen his program or bothered to do any sort of critical thinking on the subject of your own, you'd realize that not only are you wrong (he throws Israel under the bus often), you're also a fool. But parroting talking points from what someone else tells you about something you know nothing about is much easier (and fun) I guess. -
Jauron is a great guy too.

Without question Television has the best storytellers working in the industry today and more than they've ever had before. And there's a simple reason why: In television, writers have the final word. In film, writers are the first ones fired. That makes television a much more appealing outlet for the creators and authors who wish to see their vision through until the end (this is not true of all writers ... and that's fine). Throw in the fact that it's cheaper than ever before to produce cinematic quality stories each and every week -- even for cable channels -- and it makes it an even easier decision. There is amazing work being done in television today, all the shows you referenced plus dozens more. I am a movie buff. I love movies. I came out to LA to write movies (and still do). But the longer I've been out here in the trenches the more I've come to love TV. There's more creative freedom (especially on cable), a greater ability to push the boundaries of storytelling than ever before in the medium (shows like LOST, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones -- even small comedies like Workaholics, The League, Always Sunny). There's an old saying in Hollywood: "Features are where the glory is, TV is where the money is". There used to be a solid wall that separated TV writers from feature writers. 10 years ago (hell, even 5 years ago), there was not a lot of cross over from TV to film in terms of writers. And if there was, it always went one direction (you went from film into TV, never the other way around). But now that is changing. Writers like Lindelof, Abrams, Kurtzman & Orci, Whedon etc have had massive hits on the big screen after years of creating legendary shows on the small screen. Having authorship over your work, and having execs that are willing to stand by your vision, makes ALL the difference in the world creatively. That does not happen in film unless the writer is also the director.

I actually think people don't expect enough ...

I hate when the jury is more vindictive too ... However, plays now have to expect that and adjust their end games accordingly. Part of what makes Survivor so fun is that it's constantly evolving due to new rules and new personalities each season. As much as I loved Russell and feel he got screwed in season one, his other losses were on him for not learning is lesson. Ditto with Coach.
