TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
CosmicBills replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Broncos won't be running the same Tebow-friendly system now that they have Manning. There is absolutely ZERO chance that Tebow can function in the same offense that Manning has perfected over his decade plus of play in the league. -
Ancient Aliens is on H2 not NG. Sheesh. If you're gonna join the nerd train you gotta up your game!

TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
CosmicBills replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tebow does NOT add ANY depth to the QB position. None. And this has nothing to do with his "abilities". It has to do with the fact that he will not be able to run the Bills' offense as it's currently constructed. Backup QBs need to be ready to play (cold) at the drop of a hat. Tebow is not able to run the Bills offense which makes him completely worthless as a backup. If they brought Tebow in they would have to redesign the offense to make it easier for him (as they had to do in Denver) ... and you just don't do that for a backup QB. -

My first reply to this got lost when all the threads got combined into this one ... so allow me to ramble yet again. Tebow is NOT a backup QB in the NFL. There isn't a team in the league he can be a backup for. Why? Because Tim Tebow can only be successful in a specific offensive system. Denver redesigned (and simplified) their offense to cater to Tebow's abilities. When he tried to run Orton's offense, he struggled. It wasn't until they made the commitment to switch to a more Tebow friendly offense that he took off. A backup QB does NOT have that luxury. What would the Bills (or Patriots) do with Tebow as their backup? Would they have to install 2 offenses each week in case Fitz goes down? There's just not enough time for that. A backup QB needs to be ready to play (and play well) at the drop of the hat regardless of the situation on the field or the offense being run. Tebow is NOT that guy. As bad as Thigpen has been (or must be based on how little faith the coaches showed in him last year in light of Fitz's injury), he is BETTER than Tebow simply because you don't have to redesign the offense to suit him. The Bills need a backup QB. But not Tebow. -

Fitz turns 30 this fall ... he's closer to the end than the beginning. That said, getting Tebow is not a viable solution to the backup QB problems on the Bills' roster. Denver had to change its entire offense (simplify it) in order for Tebow to run it successfully. That's not something you can do with your backup QB and expect to win. If Fitz goes down in the middle of the game are the Bills expected to have a "Tebow-friendly" offense ready to go on a moment's notice? There's not enough practice time in the week to install TWO offenses each week just in case Tebow Fitz goes down. Tebow isn't a backup QB. It makes absolutely no sense. -
I like Harriston -- just not as a LT. I think he will be a fantastic RT in the league and is capable of playing LT in a pinch, making him valuable. But I wouldn't want to go into the season with him as the LT and a rookie 3rd round (or lower) LT as his only back up. We saw what happened last year when you ignore the depth along the line.
-
You might be right -- I'm not a draftnick so I don't know much about the LTs in the draft. But I do know that right now there is no LT on the Bills roster and there aren't any realistic options available in Free Agency. You either have to resign Bell (and overpay) or you have to use a top pick on a LT. Going into the season with Pears and Harriston as your starting tackles would be a big mistake.
-
He's a backup at best, at worst the starting RT (though I think Harriston should start at RT). Big hole at LT and no free agents who can fill that void. Bills will grab Martin at 10.
-
You have to go LT in round one. Williams makes the whole defense better and the O-Line has zero depth and currently has no starting tackles on its roster.
-
The best thing about getting Meachem would have been that it meant the Bills wouldn't have to use an early draft pick on a WR. That's why I hope this hole is addressed in free agency before the draft -- it just gives the Bills a lot more flexibility come draft day.
-
Here's the thing ... I've been as vocal a critic of this front office as anyone on here. I've called Nix a backroom hire (and he was), I've been suspect of his abilities since he (wrongly in my opinion) used his first draft pick on a RB for a team with 2 pro bowlers already at the position. I've also been very vocal about my belief that it's not entirely Nix's fault as I believe that Ralph/Littman/Overdorf are really the ones calling the shots. The fact that the Bills threw out the red carpet for both Williams and Meachem, addressing two of the team's biggest needs, was a reassuring sign that I haven't been giving Buddy enough credit. It was a big move, and despite Meachem signing with SD, it gives me more hope that Nix not only has a plan but has enough sway with Ralph to actually implement it. Williams signing with the Bills will give the team the best defensive line they've ever had ... and they've had great some GREAT defensive lines. Williams Squared with Dareus will make Kelsey look like a man worth his contract (guaranteed) -- THAT'S how good this line will be. It will instantly improve the secondary and will lessen the load on the (still very weak) LB corps. Plus, if Merriman has anything left (a big if) this defense could be down right nasty with a few pieces sprinkled in this year and next. It's the right move to make and my hats off to Buddy for doing what it takes to get it done. Yes, I believe the deal IS done despite all the worry on the board. Losing Meachem sucks, but it shouldn't be held against Buddy in my opinion. Besides, this team needs players that WANT to be here. Williams is going to be a great fit in Buffalo for exactly that reason. It's a good day to be a Bills fan. Go Bills.
-
With the offense Chan runs, a #2 WR is a HUGE need. Meachem would have made this offense a lot better, there's no other way around it. I think they want to go LT in the first round, but it wouldn't surprise me to see them grab Floyd instead. Fitz needs another target besides Stevie and Nelson. The rest of the WRs on the roster are suspect at best.

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill

Good call, Metz. And great news for Buffalo. The front office is off to a nice start. Now close the deal. -
What about Demetrius Bell?
CosmicBills replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did speak to Bell in my post and am always willing to engage in honest and thoughtful conversations with folks who do the same -- regardless of whether or not their opinions differ from mine. Yet you continue to try to play both sides of the fence and I'm just trying to figure out why. You say "if we retain Bell and he is our starter I will support him and cheer on game day and not whine, moan and boo like people do with Fitz" ... yet at this moment, Bell is on the Bills roster AND the starting LT. Still, you are doing exactly what you have repeatedly bashed other posters for doing with Fitz. But that's not all. In two other threads you've also chimed in on Fred Jackson, stating that he's too old to rely on and how last year was essentially a blip on the radar. Not only is this wrong (Jackson has been the Bills best offensive player for the past few seasons and last year was one of the best in the LEAGUE before getting hurt), but Fred Jackson is STILL under contract and the starting RB on the roster ... yet you're not supporting him in accordance to your own rules. So, again, it's either that you have an unbelievable man-crush on Fitz that blinds you from rationally being able to discuss his abilities, or you're not being honest about what you consider to be valid criticism and what you consider to be "haterism". Which is it? It's a fair question that you've continued to duck. In response to Bell (again), I think the Bills need to upgrade every position on the offensive line outside of Wood and Levitre. At the very least, the Bills need to address the lack of depth along the line. I have no problem with the Bills retaining Bell as he's shown flashes of brilliance when he's healthy -- so long as they don't overpay for him. -
QB Ryan Tannehill to Bills at #10 ??
CosmicBills replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fred Jackson was the best player on the team last year and one of the best players in the NFL before he got hurt. He's also someone who has the full, unwavering support of every player on the team who have backed him in public repeatedly. So try supporting your team's best player and starter instead of (wrongly) suggesting last year was a flash in the pan. Oh wait, I forgot, his name isn't Fitzpatrick so your rules of "biatching" don't apply, right? Once again you show your true colors. -

I know Miami is God's Waiting Room, but I would think they would be able to get someone a bit more current than Regis to pitch him. http://www.celebrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Regis-Philbin-Quits-Show-Over-More-Money.jpg (okay, I thought I knew how to put pictures on here ... guess not.) -

Is this the year to go after a R.F.A?
CosmicBills replied to Billshank Redemption's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I absolutely agree. A DE (or any semblance of a legit pass rush in general) will do wonders for the DBs. But I think they need to address CB in the draft with at least one pick if not two. WR is definitely an area of need as well ... I don't care if they address these spots in FA or the draft so long as they're addressed.
