Using a after every third word in a post doesn't equal reason. But it does make your posts look like one of those serial killer manifestos the cops find after a murder spree.

5th grade reading level? Come on, I'm all for reaching for the stars but stick with what you know. 3rd grade reading level is your ceiling. Let's not fool ourselves.

There's rarely, if ever, reason to be found in your posts.

No one mocks Geno the man. Just the way he died. You have to admit, even Geno would have laughed at the circumstances of his demise.

Thank You / How is Wall Imprtant To You

Bill Walsh told me he was at the Buffalo Airport. -
Not defending the show entirely as even I was taken back by the slant of the third episode, but... in fairness that wasn't the lesson. They did make a point (only once, I grant you) to make it clear they were talking about the extremists within the Tea Party -- not all Tea Party folk. They went out of their way to make Will talk about how the extreme fringe is holding the rest of the GOP (his own party) hostage. I'll grant you that doesn't count for much -- but it's something.

Good thread, Millbank! I first learned about TBD from my old boss who I believe still lurks but rarely ever posts. I lurked for about a year before I finally started posting, now I can't imagine not having TSW around. It's kind of like the DVR in that way -- seriously, how did people watch TV before that or surf the net before TSW? Great people (even the idiots), good discussions, and a feeling of community are all what keeps bringing me back every day. Especially now that I live on the west coast, this site allows me to feel like I never left western New York. Thanks to Scott, all the mods and everyone else who keeps this place the best site on the net. GO BILLS! -
There's definitely A LOT of this going on. For sure.

You haven't said it. Instead, you picked an "article" which implies it, posted a message implying everyone who tweeted in the article was unpatriotic, and lashed out at any poster who questioned the merits of such a belief. But. When I asked you specifically to give the board your own opinion on whether or not Rock's statements were un-American, you refused to answer. Rob answered honestly. I answered honestly. Tom answered honestly. But you refused to make a definitive statement either way. Which means either you don't really believe in the stuff you're pushing or you don't have balls enough to stand up and say what you really want to say. Either way, it's embarrassing.

I think that's true for sure. In my mind it's because the best comedians are product of their times. So when their times end, their comedy ends too. Comedy is all relevant to the social context of the time it's being done. Rock was hilarious in the 90s because he had fresh takes on the times we were living in. A lot of his observational humor were hilarious then because we had never really thought of them in that context before. But the times we're living in have changed. As has Rock's perspective on these new times. Now he's experiencing our times, not from the eyes of a person trying to make it in the world, but from someone who's already made it and is just trying to keep it. And that's never as funny as the other way around in my opinion.

I've been asking the same question which he won't answer. He's absurd, I'll grant you, just like this thread, and my attempts to have a reasonable conversation with him are probably futile. But considering the OP posts 90% of the most outlandish stuff on PPP and is also the quickest poster to resort to hyperbolic declarations like calling someone an American hater, I think it's fair to try to determine what, if anything, he actually believes in when he makes these ridiculous posts. Not only did you call me an America hater (multiple times) in this thread, the topic heading alone points to that conclusion. "Happy Fourth of July to all you patriots ... and to hell with all these !@#$s" -- to which you linked an article which, despite its misleading headline, focuses on Chris Rock's tweet. Every other tweet was in response either in support of, or against, Chris Rock's original tweet. Or, in your mind, people who AREN'T patriots. So no. Not hyperbole. Just your own statements.
-
At his height, I would classify Chris Rock as being one of the best stand ups to ever take the stage. He can't act to save his life, but as far as stand up goes, he's up there with the all time greats: Carlan, Bruce, Pryor, Cosby, Kinison, Seinfeld. Which is more than a fair reaction. But I think we can both agree that calling him anti-American for saying it, as 3rd is attempting to do, is just silly.
-
Which, I would argue, was Rock's intention. Because if you're annoyed, you're talking about it.
-
That was episode 2 -- I was asking about last night's episode The 112th Congress. My fault, should have been more clear.
-
So, for the sake of clarity, Chris Rock's tweet did not offend you?
-
I didn't mean to defend progressives exclusively with my statement. Should have made that more clear, my bad. I'm not saying that it's necessary to avoid repeating slavery -- I was speaking in more general terms about knowing where we came from as a nation/people/civlization. My people came here under their own volition (religiously motivated Swedes -- they do exist), but I see value in remembering that less than 60 years ago, legal segregation was still in place in sections of our country. That's not ancient history. That's last week in a historical perspective. Do I dwell on this? No, of course not. Nor does Rock I would venture to guess. There's a difference between "getting past" something and forgetting it ever happened -- or how it was resolved.
-
In all seriousness (no trolling intended), can anyone who watched the episode and who knows what they're talking about in regards to the Tea Party, give me their reaction? I know very little about the Tea Party other than the chest beating I hear from Tea Party folks and punchlines from those on the other side of the coin. Thanks in advance. Edit: I'd love to hear from people who actually watched the entire episode not just read the reviews/critiques.
-
Sometimes you need to look at where you came from to see where you're going. Are you saying there's no value in that?
-
Does this constitute being un-American in your mind? Regardless of tone (which I agree was tweeted with a sharp bite -- the man is a social critic after all), isn't what Rock said true? America began its journey towards becoming a free country in 1776, but didn't cross the finish line until many years later. By tweeting this on the 4th, Rock is not only demonstrating his right to free speech, but also provoking a discourse on America's history of slavery. The tweet got people from both sides of the discussion to speak out -- some crazy, some not -- and force the people in this thread to think about the nation's history warts and all. What better day to do that than on our nation's birthday? This isn't un-American -- it's the market place of ideas.

Hey baby, how do you like my canoe?
CosmicBills replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Two women are walking across a bridge on their way home after a long night at the bar. One of the women stops to piss off the side of the bridge. "Look! I'm going to pee in that canoe down there!" Her friend looks down into the water-- "That's not a canoe. That's your reflection" -

...Two days later and you still refuse to espouse an actual opinion on the Rock tweet itself. Not that I expected you to, but it'd be nice if you had at least a crumb of intellectual honesty on this board. At least Crayonz tries to entertain with his posts. You could learn a thing or two from your alter ego.
-
I'm talking about the tweets. Specifically the main tweet. As you've already said, the article is sh*t and has no merit. But, according to your OP, the tweet makes Rock an azshole and anti-American. I'm asking why that is? How does Chris Rock's tweet make him anti-American or, imply that he hates America? I'm just asking for your opinion on the topic you started.
-
I'm not asking about anyone else's interpretation. I'm asking about yours. I'm just curious, not trying to pin you down. The article was framed around Chris Rock's initial tweet, the other tweets are just reflections of his tweet (some more insane than others). So what specifically about Rock's tweet bothered you?
