Whoever Is President In 2013, The Economy Will
CosmicBills replied to Duck_dodgers007's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1315479/Aliens-interfered-weapons-UFOs-deactivating-nuclear-missiles.html I feel bad making a bet when I have inside knowledge. It just wouldn't be on the level. -
Look at you. Your guy gets an endorsement from Jenna Jameson and now you're just throwing porno terms around willy-nilly!

Is there a way to attach pictures in a thread that are from our desktops and not the internet or no?

Think about that for a second. Why would they have such a debate on TV were people could see AND hear them. Koppel has been at this for decades, which makes you wonder how much he actually knows. If he knew too much, he'd be a liability. Especially when he went rogue in '05 and left that nickle and dime shop he was anchored to. No, he's no threat. -

There is a way out for some. At least, that's what I'm starting to hear. Whispers really, but there might be some opportunities to stave off the inevitable. Just know that everything you're about to hear over the next few weeks, specifically anything regarding NASA or Paul Allen, is a bold faced lie. I don't know who your source is, but Koppel knows as much about this as my crazy Uncle Ned. Which is to say a lot. But that doesn't mean we can trust him. And don't get me started about O'Reilly, it's not even his real name. -

It doesn't matter. Not in the grand scheme of things. -

Not just libs. Ever stop and think why this election cycle has been the most divisive and aggressive in our history? Look at what happens on this board, there has been a noticeable uptick in the hostility within the responses over the past 18 months. It's almost like we're being wound up like a children's toy. Remember those matchbox cars that had the motors in them? You would roll them backwards to wind the gears and when you let go the car would fly and the more you wound the gears, the farther the car would go. Doesn't it feel like we're being wound up? And not just here in the US. Look around the rest of the world right now. We've got riots, civil wars and a media that has switched from information to entertainment -- giving them even more freedom to jack up the hype on every single issue. I mean, how else do can you existence of Justin Beiber or Rush Limbaugh? We're being manipulated. We're all inside that matchbox car right now and there's a giant unseen hand that keeps winding those gears and winding those gears and winding those gears. Just waiting for the moment they already know is coming (because they were told in advance) to let us go. And when they do, the matchbox car we're in is just going to go careening down the basement stairs, and we'll never be heard from again. The funniest part about the whole thing was the Mayans knew. They tried to warn us. They left all the signs out there in plain sight for us to see -- we just didn't look. Because someone told us once that people who did look were "crazy". We're all so desperate to fit in no one wants to be the crazy one (but for Beerball) that we ignored it. And now it's too late. -

Look. All the puzzle pieces are out there in broad daylight. If you haven't put the pieces together yet, I don't know what to tell you. But this is a topic that you should have more respect for. The Mayans don't play. -
Excellent post. Thank you for your thoughtful and reasoned reply. What I'm failing to see though, and it might be here I'm just missing it, is what your proposed solution is? You ask for the Westernized Muslims to speak out (and I argue they have, quite loudly) -- but what would you have them do? Most of the Westernized Muslims no longer live in the Middle East or Asia. They can't do much more but speak out. The ones who you need to reach to enact real change are the ones living under the thumb of these fundamentalist regimes. The same folks that Western governments have done a masterful job of completely fu*king over when sh*t hits the fan (see: Desert Storm and the Kurds/Shi'ites, Afghanistan and the Mujahideen in the 80s and 90s). The educated in these nations have a long history to look back on demonstrating exactly how much the West cares about their plight. And it's only gotten worse post 9/11. When half of the world is calling for the extermination of your religion, how do you identify your friend from your enemy? Look through this thread at some of the gems casually tossed out on here from some folks (nuke 'em all, wipe them all out etc, etc) and tell me where the outraged silent majority is supposed to turn? What you're suggesting is that these people who are living under the thumb of fundamentalist regimes should speak up ... but when they do, the West doesn't listen. My only dog in this fight is the notion that the answer is an extermination or a full on war against Islam. In reality Western civilization has been engaged in a direct and indirect war against Islam for over 900 years. Tom's post above about the legacy of colonialism speaks more to my point -- the enemy isn't a religion, it's a legacy. A legacy of invasion, forced conversion and contempt for a sector of the world who the west deemed as savage. Thinking Islam is the enemy is what got us into this mess as a civilization. It's not going to provide the solution -- otherwise it would have already. Instead, all it does is reinforce the negative stereotypes of the Great Satin. You may read that as a continuation of the victim mentality -- and you'd have a point -- but it doesn't make it any less true. You say the silent majority needs to speak up in order to enact meaningful change. I agree with you on that. What we need to do is help them speak out. And you don't help the situation by continuing the same backwards thinking that has been going on since the Crusades.

But if they didn't lie or cheat, how'd they get wealthy? Gotcha there! OOOOOHHHHH!

You're running from the discussion or I am, so let's clarify. "Westernized Muslims" ... Are you saying there are no Muslims who have protested the violence? Which westernized Muslims are you referring to? Is there a nation state you have in mind? Or are you just speaking in vague generalities to prove your point (which, I still don't know what it is). Are you saying the Islam, as a religion, is inherently violent and flawed? Is that the stance you're taking?

I can't go into details on the internet. It's too sensitive. Let's just say it's not the same thing. At all. Don't joke about it. Don't talk about it. Don't even THINK about it. (Which, coincidentally, is pretty much verbatim what my dates say about their experience with me the next day). -
Just saw the space shuttle fly over my house. Pretty darn cool. I took 3 pictures, none of them came out (operator error). Did anyone catch a glimpse of it? Oh. And, there are UFOs in Niagra Falls. I blame Beerball and Crayonz for this...

Don't joke about that.... -
You're attempting to apply secular logic to a fundamental religious dilemma. It just doesn't work that way. You're talking about a part of the globe that is 3 generations removed from tribalism and colonialism -- they have slightly different definitions of what's backwards than you do. You have a worn torn, impoverished population with little access to secular education so of course it's going to turn into a breeding ground for unrest. It's dressed up with religious pretexts and makes it easy for our society to identify as being the enemy. But it doesn't make it true. Islam is not the enemy. And acting like it is only stirs the pot more. If you want to find solutions you have to look at the real problem, not shadows.

Got it. Mainstream media is good when they work within your (weak) argument. Bad when they work against it. Thumbs up. No doubt.
