Just curious to see what people think...

Bills win 24-17 This is assuming the gameplan calls for Willis, Willis and more Willis. If the Bills try to win it through the air then it could be 40-7 Rams.

Yankees offer Pedro four years /50 mil.

His agent also said that he does not want to leave the West coast (where his family lives) unless he goes to NYC. But, I can't read Randy's mind and like you said, the Birds have the best offer on the table. If they can convince Randy that St.Louis is the place to be, there is a chance. I just think the chances are slim to none. -
Why do I have the feeling the thread title was aimed at me:)

You're right, I mispoke. But the Cards system is pretty stocked as well. Plus the Cards are also going to throw in an everyday player, something the Yanks aren't willing to do. But this whole thing will come down to who convinces Randy and what he wants. It's the nature of the beast. That's why Boston isn't even pursuing him anymore. They tried and then found out how much he does not like Schilling so they nixed it. -
No shock. I guess I am not as bummed about not being at the game now though.

Brandon, you are absolutely right about the Cardinals having the best offer out to Arizona. The Angles and Yankees don't have the Farm System that the Cardinals do currently to compete. But what you are missing is that Randy Johnson does not want to be in St. Louis. He has said that since the deadline last season. He will ultimately decide his own fate and it won't be in St.Louis in my opinion. -

I don't think Pavano is definitely a Sox yet. Let's wait and see how this plays out. Apparently he LOVED the meeting he had with Torree in Florida last week and they are making a special trip to NYC to meet with the pitching staff and coaches. It's obvious Carl loved Boston too though so I think this deal will come down to dollars and cents. I also expect the Yanks to make a push for Radke (unless he accepted that 2 year deal minny offered and I missed it). I think the rotation for the Yanks could look like this come spring training: Unit, Moose, Pavano/Pedro, Radke/Lieber (only one of them will sign), Vasquez. On the other side I see the Sox going into camp with something like this: Schill, Pavano/Pedro (possibly both!), Arrojo, Wakefield -

You are exactly right. If Pedro does go to NY, that is what I forsee happening as well. As a Yankee fan I would much rather have Pavano than Pedro, but I still don't buy it that George is really making a move for Pedro. I posted a thread earlier from ESPN news which said the meeting wtih Pedro was a mutual "ploy" for both Pedro and the Yanks. It was designed to get the Diamondbacks to speed up negotiaions for Randy and for the Sox to up their offer for Pedro (which they did, from 25 million to around 40). I just have a feeling there is a lot of smoke being blown here on all sides. -

The thing to remember with Randy Johnson is that he is the one in control of where he goes. He has his no trade clause and has shown he will use it. He wants to be in NY or California. St.Louis won't be able to make Randy interested. I think there is a good chance he stays in Arizona, if he does get moved it will be either to the Bombers or the Halos. -
(OT) Intellectual Property Protection Act

It's difficult to separate fair use from piracy in the current climate due to the rapid advance of technology. 10 years ago, book publishers didn't have to worry about fair use vs piracy because how many people had access to photocopy machines to mass produce the product? Not many. Instead it was just people handing books back and forth. Yet today, with the advent of digitial scanners and copiers virtually everyone has access to these duplication machines. The record companies for years have been on the forefront of this particular battle because once they moved to cassette, their product became very easy to duplicate. Every attempt they made at adding security features to their products backfired (or were easy to dismantle), yet they caught hell for violating fair use laws for their efforts. So they moved to CDs which were both cheaper and more secure. But now, technology has caught up to them again and they are fighting the battle all over again...only this time virtually EVERY IP industry that has joined in because the technology has outgrown the law. It is a very complex issue, one that is not easily solved. How do you go about crafting a law that both protects fair use AND protects the copyrights? The answer they seem to have arrived upon is stopping the DUPLICATION TECHNOLOGY from becoming widespread (which is a losing battle) rather than the individual. Similar attempts were made a long time ago with the MPAA attempt to stop the manufacturing of VCRs...that is until they realized they could turn a nifty profit with home videos. The reality is that you are never going to stop piracy completely. Also, you are never going to have big Entertainment companies coming into your house and arresting you for violation of copyright or fair use laws unless you happen to be making a living off of pirating materials. Yet the laws do need to be adjusted to keep up with the technology. -

How many games for Ron Artesticle?
CosmicBills replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I put 10 based on the inevitable appeal that will be filed by the Player's Union once the length of the suspension is released. As precident they will use the incident in Atlanta (I think?) where the player left the bench and went into the stand because someone VERBALLY assulted him. He was only suspended 10 games. They Player's Union will argue that what Artest did was similar and thus the suspension should be the same. I think the suspension is initially 30 games but gets reduced to 10. Just a hunch. -

That was what I was trying to say. Like I said earlier, Fez and I have our disagreement on the issue but it is because we are both coming from opposite ends of the issue. Fez is rightfully concerned about his rights as a consumer whereas I am concernced about my IP rights as a producer of IP material. But from talking with collegues who all deal in similiar IP products we all come to the same conclusion that we want the law to protect our product without inhibiting other people's ability to enjoy them. At the end of the day I don't think many people will care what individuals are doing in their homes so long as it doesn't interfere with the marketplace. -

Don't get Brandon started, he has already made it perfectly clear who was in the right and who was in the wrong. -
From ESPN INSIDER and the Boston Globe: "The RedSox have sweetened their offer to Pedro, who wants a deal that effectively guarantees him at least 40 mill over 3 years, the BG reported. With Pedro intent on securing the third guaranteed year, the Sox altered their proposal to make the total 40.5 million vaule of the deal more eaily attainable. According to ESPN.Com's Jayson Stark, pretty much everyone in the Yankees organization believes Martinez's meeting with owner George Steinbrenner on Nov 16th was a mutual leverage ploy: Pedro trying to drive up his price and Steinbrenner trying to get the Diamondbacks to move on trading Randy Johnson. One baseball man said Pedro 'gave a sales pitch,' while George mostly 'just listened." I guess Theo blinked first.

You can't make that blanket statement BF (what's your real name? I hate calling you BF lol). The league had EVERYONE look at the tape all night. I am sure it was an Armada of lawyers, Player Union Reps, Law Enforcement people etc. Nothing would make the league happier than to have been able to come out and say "Artest and the players were in the right, the security and fans were the ones solely in the wrong", it would give them a pass. But since 3 Pacers are to be suspended INDEFINITELY is a sign that this armada of observers feel people OVER reacted. And that is all I have been trying to say all night
