DOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
-
I just want it on the record that this was intended to be a compliment, not an insult to anyone!

I'm with you, Rich. I really grew to enjoy Any Given Sunday. Although I don't agree with all of Stone's political views I have always enjoyed him as a film maker. That is why I was so excited to hear about Alexander...I'm still going to see it, I guess my expectations will just be dimmed a bit. So far I think a lot of the criticism has been very personal for Stone since the issue (from what I can tell anyway) is about the historical accuracy, his meandering narrative and Alexander's sexual preference. It's almost as if they are trying to say he made Alexander bi-sexual because he is trying to promote gay rights when I don't think that is the case. But who knows. I just hope he doesn't walk away from movies again.

ICE always entertains me! As do many others on this board including yourself Mr. Rico. Keep up the good work.
-
Was there ANY good parts? I was amped for this flick till the reviews came out. At least Paramount (I think) is coming out with their version of Alexander in a year. So we have that to look forward to I guess.

What are we trusting ICE with exactly? Our women and children?

I feel bad for Stone right now. He stepped away from features after "Any Given Sunday" got shelled by critics. He said it was "too hard to hear that criticism". He took almost 7 years off. And now it appears Alexander will get WORSE reviews. It sucks to see that much talent go to waste...kinda like our team

But, on the bright side you got to see Rossario nekid ...or so they say...

OT: Will Peyton Manning be the greatest QB ever?
CosmicBills replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I also said no. Not as a knock on Manning really but simply because there is no fair way to compair players throughout different eras. Athletes continue to evolve and become faster, stronger and more athletic. 20 years from now there may very well be a QB that can run faster than Vick, throw harder than Farve, have more accuracy than Manning and have even more poise as Brady. Now if you asked the question "Will Manning be considered the best QB of his generation" I may have to say yes if Farve is not considered amungst Manning's generation. -
OT: Have you heard Eminem's Encore?
CosmicBills replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sad part is that Encore is the album that Em had the most to do with its production. I haven't heard the album yet (plan on getting it this week) but if it's as bad as you say than maybe what it shows is that Em is best left to writing and rapping and leaving the Doc behind the board. -
Friday Seattle v Buffalo predictions?
CosmicBills replied to ICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good points. Sue, what you are missing is that this line, while not good, is playing 10 times better than they did last year. Drew is getting time to throw but he is missing targets (throwing high or too low). It's as if he is EXPECTING to get hit when no one is around. I don't blame the guy, he has been sacked more than any other QB in the game today. He is just gun-shy. No honest observer of this team this year can put this team's failures soley on the OLine. If anything, this unit has improved from one week to the next...even Mike Williams who we all love to hate around here. Are they superstars? No. But you don't have a RB get 100 yards 4 out of 5 games without an adequate OLine. And in reality Drew has not been sacked very much at all during these last 6 games (anyone know how many? I am thinking like 5 tops). Yet he has still struggled at times with accuracy and poise in the pocket. -
They still lost. Like I said, I hope he proves me wrong. But every big game this guys plays in he comes up short. Florida owned him when he was at Tennesse. The year after he leaves, Tennesse wins it all. Even this year, opening day vs NE was a HUGE game that the Colts should have won but Manning just choked in the redzone against a Pats D that was really off that night.

Lets face it boys ... (and playoff picture)
CosmicBills replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They only won one. And it was against the Chiefs who's Defense was the worst ever to play in the playoffs. But like I said, I am not the best prognosticator in the world. You are right, they beat Denver as well as KC. I stand corrected! But Manning still chokes -
I don't hate on Manning at all. Personally I like the guy and think if more professional atheletes were as professional as him, all sports would be in a much better place. I also respect the hell out of what he does game in and game out. But I just cannot consider him the best QB in the league until he proves to me he can win when the chips are down. He simply has never been able to win "the big game" dating all the way back to college. It's not that he doesn't have the best arm, or the best head, I think it's just that he out-thinks himself in the big games and ends up shooting himself in the foot. So as long as that trend continues he will be nothing more than a regular season stud and post season dud in my book. I hope he proves me wrong one day.

Lets face it boys ... (and playoff picture)

Interesting picks. Interesting indeed. I cannot pick the Colts EVER to win the Super Bowl (or any playoff game) until Manning shows me that he can play at a high level in the big game. Frankly, he has never been able to do that (the KC game last year aside since KC's D looked like a JV team). Personally, I like the guy and think he is one of the best QBs in the league, but he out-thinks himself in the big games causing him to choke...he did it in college and he will continue to do it in the Pros. So I can't pick them until Manning proves me wrong. Until that point he will just be the 2000 version of Dan Marino. I think it's impossible to count the Pats out of anything. They have more expierence and more proven "prime time" players than any other team in the league. That said, I still don't know if they can win it this year. If they get the Home-Field edge then they will. If they have to go on the road for the AFC Championship game...I'm not so sure. Here's my prediction. AFC EAST: Pats AFC North: Pitt (Homefield) AFC South: Indy AFC West: Denver (I think they pull it out over SD, just a hunch) *Wildcards: San Diego, Baltimore Wildcard round: Baltimore over Colts, Denver over SD Divisional round: Pitt over Baltimore, Pats over Denver AFC Championship: Pats over Pitt (*I just can't pick a rookie QB in such a big game over Belichiks D) NFC East: Philly (homefield) NFC North: Minny NFC South: Atlanta NFC West: Seattle *Wildcards: GB, St.Louis (St.Louis sucks, but so does the rest of the NFC) Wilcard round: Minny over St.Louis, GB over Atlanta Divisional round: Philly over GB, Minny over Seattle NFC Champtionship: Philly over Minny Super Bowl: (going out on a limb) Philly over NE. Of course, to be fair it should be noted that I am the worst prognosticator EVER. -
I was one of the guys who REALLY wanted the Bills to trade for Henson when his price dropped to a second rounder. I am anxious to see what this kid has got. I think he is going to be a special player.

Also, try turning your PS2 upside down and starting it (leave it that way as you play too). That works for me sometimes.

This really wasn't a bad season IMO
CosmicBills replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post. I agree with a lot of what you said. When I was talking about the Bills' chances this preseason with friends I thought this was a team with playoff talent on the roster but it would all come down to how quickly they adjusted to a rookie coach. Let's face it, the league is not filled with first year coaches that jump right into the playoffs. I hoped that the transition wouldn't be so bad since they retained Gray and MM's system had already been used once before to replace Gilbride's. But this team looked like a very young team (considering how many vets they have) during the first 4 games of this season. That is directly linked to MM's rookie status in my opinion. Over the past 6 games this team has really turned a corner mentally and I think a large part of that credit has to go to Mularkey. I don't think it's possible that this team could make it to the playoffs (too many AFC loses) but if they can win on Sunday I believe this team has an excellent shot at finishing 10-6. And THAT would be a great building block for next season. -
That being said, I don't think that particular play was dirty (or any more dirty than what happens every other week in the league).

OT - Ron Artest Will Not Play this year
CosmicBills replied to EZC-Boston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't mind that message being sent at all. The current mentality is ruining the league in my opinion. I can't even watch the NBA much anymore. I much prefer NCAA hoops. -
He's such a good guy that he is the most fined player in the league over the past 3 seasons. And when he was asked about it by Peter King (or Dr. Z, I can't remember which) his quote was somethng like: "I don't care about the rules. I am trying to kill the other team, legal or not, that's for the NFL to decide"

OT - Ron Artest Will Not Play this year
CosmicBills replied to EZC-Boston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've already made my view pretty clear about Artest and the lot, but I don't think it would be fair to punish the Pacer organization as a whole like that. Losing three of their best players is punishment enough for the actions of a few of their players. It wasn't as if the entire organization cheered and rooted Artest on during the brawl, you know? Instituting a penalty such as that would be unfair to the organization I think. -
That's the one bad thing with print interviews. It's difficult to tell if Willis was just trying to be a wise-ass or if he really didn't know his name. The interview gives no context. But it's funny regardless

Couldn't agree more. The Patriots are on the bottom of my list of things to worry about now. I won't worry about the Pats till they show up on the schedule next year. Till then I just want to see the Bills get better. In all seriousness, good luck to the Pats the rest of the way.

Alright. Here is a good question.
CosmicBills replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really think MM and TD's plan coming into preseason was to have Drew be the starter for 2004 AND 2005, giving JP 2 years to prep. This, of course, was predicated upon the beilef that this Bills team would be a playoff contender this season. Frankly, I don't much care who is under center come Sunday as long as they win. If it's Drew, fine. If it's JP, just as good. I think MM wants to take this one game at a time at this point. The playoffs are pretty much out of the picture (even though he won't admit it...nor would I expect him to) so Drew is on the perverbial "short leash". However, that short leash will get longer with each win Drew racks up down the stretch. So, if Drew somehow puts his road woes behind him and the Bills do manage to finish anywhere between 8-8 and 10-6 I have a feeling Drew will indeed be the opening day starter next September. But as soon as the Bills hit 8 loses (which I hope is never) I expect JP to get a lot of PT. This opens up the following scenario: If JP struggles then it will become a training camp battle between he and Drew in 05. If he excells, then JP wins the job right then and there. Just my two cents.
