Peter Jennings Primetime Special tonight...
CosmicBills replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ever read Douglass Adams? They are just "buzzing" us. He said UFO sightings were just "spoiled rich kids" who liked to pick on the people on Earth whom no one would ever believe. They will park, get out and act like idiots then get back in and drive away... -
That's my dream too...and then move Shelton or MW to guard. Still, I think JJ is gone. It seems to me based on what I've heard that Pat Williams will be resigned and JJ will walk. I have a question though, how is Dallas could sign Drew before March 2nd? I thought that was the date for FA to sign?

Pace is a good college player...but has virtually zero NBA potential. -
Peter Jennings Primetime Special tonight...

Everytime I look in the mirror. -
And Shannon... I stole Steve's idea, and paused the show for the first 15 minutes, then skipped all the commercials. Only I timed it wrong and still got stuck watching the last batch of 'em.

Drew reportedly gets a 3yr/14 Million
CosmicBills replied to Thailog80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Holy crap! I thought it was only 5 mill for 2 years... maybe I just heard the guaranteed money -
True indeed.

24 on DVD has about a 42 minute run time. Lost is about the same...so I don't think it's that overdone. Still, it would be much better if this show were on HBO.

I know I'm coming off like a jerk here, and I don't mean to be. I'm not trying to bash Babe or elevate Barry to something he's not. I'm just saying people have short memories, especailly in baseball. But that is a great point. I still have to say though, it wasn't against the rules, so how can you 100 percent fault Barry? I guess that's my point (and it's lame, i know).
-
Absolutely. UConn may be totally on the nose with his assessment. I don't know where the show is heading, I just know that where ever it goes, it was planned out (in detail) long before the show made it to production. It's one of the few shows that does that. For example, 24 (another show I love) doesn't do this...and I think that hurts the show. They are usually a couple episodes ahead but leave tons of room for the writers and producers to add characters or plot lines if other ones are dragging (or if the public just hates certain aspects of the show).

I'm a wannabe screenwriter (read: broke), so I pay attention to all the industry stuff. I have made friends with a couple screenwriters and producers who keep me up on all the inside stuff. I don't know anyone on LOST though, I just have seen Abrams Bible for Felicity so I know how detailed that guy is with his character arcs and such. Basically I'm a nerd when it comes to learning as much as possible about the industry

But why does Babe deserve to be remembered as the second best HR king ever? He had similar advantages himself...What Barry did was illegal, but not against the rules (how's that for whacky). I don't like the guy, but he's going to get the record, and he will be a HOFer. And 50 years from now, no one will care about the Roids, just like no one cares that all the old time records are scewed by having segregated leagues. It will be a footnote, nothing more.
-
I am betting that Sawyer was in jail because he was carrying a weapon. Just a total guess though, the guy he bought the gun from made such a big point about it being illegal and all.
-
Absolutely true. But the league was just as guilty. The league understood: More HRs = higher ratings. While the union understood: More HRs = Bigger contracts and endorsement deals. So neither side saw a reason to really dig their noses into it... It's a shame. But I stand by my belief that the "Steroid Era" will be just that, an era in the game that people will forget about. The records will stand (without astriks) and the game will move forward...hopefully for the better.
-
I'm not a fan either...but it has more to do with his personality than the roids.

Jacks father died literally from booze (according to the Doctors when Jack came to get him). But it's not out of the realm of possibility that Sawyer played a role in his death... Here's how a Bible works. The head writer/producer (JJ Abrams) plots out the entire series (season by season). This means the entire arc of the season. They are HUGE documents, for TV shows literally 100s of pages. Very, very detailed. What isn't done (for the most part) is dialogue and exact characterizations. Then, each writer is assigned characters (for example, I know the same writer created Clair, Locke and Sawyer) and fits him into the bible. So they aren't "making things up as they go", it's all well planned before shooting ever begins. Sometimes they make changes (for example, Hurly was never supposed to be a big character, but JJ liked him so much, he expanded his role...), but if they decided Walt was the controller of this universe, they wouldn't suddenly change it just to throw a curveball at the viewers. That is the point of having a Bible, to avoid that sort of hackneyed job. So Abrams knows where he is going, and he has also said that it is a 3 season arc...which means don't expect any real answers anytime soon.

Sure they have been illegal. Just like drinking under age, or smoking weed, or any other sort of illicit substances. But how many people here partook in those very things when they were younger? And none of us did it to improve our careers...I'm not saying Barry is right, just that the league let it go on under their nose, and you can't fault Barry (or any others) for taking advantage to secure their futures. Still, it drives me nuts to hear people calling for Bonds to be erases from the record books yet the same people get mad if others call for Babe to have an astriks next to his name... I'm not a big race card guy, but if Bonds were white, this wouldn't be as big an issue. It wasn't for McGwire, and Giambi seems to be doing okay since he came out.
-
Bruce is obviously a reference to Bruce Lee, and Betty is a reference to the "Japanese Betty"...it's what WWII pilots called Japanese Bombers that were the terror of the skies in the Pacific. Sawyer is big into the racial stereotypes.

Hurley was on the TV...not sure if it was a commercial though, may have been a newscast or a reality show.
-
I was thinking the same thing! Plus, if you have noticed, they end each episode with a shot of the person "next up" in terms of a back story... So I think next week's will most certainly revolve around the rotund one.
-
But you still never answered the question. If you are going to ignore Bond's stats are you going to ignore the Babe's and others from the old days as well?

EA sports locks up NFL from 2006 on....
CosmicBills replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Take Two (the company that does ESPN Games) struck back by getting the license for MLB from 2006 on.... It is an exclusive deal that permits only Take Two and the console makers (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) the rights to the MLB Players and teams and shuts out all third party producers (namely EA). Since MVP Baseball grossed over 200 million last year, that is a big blow to EA. I am betting they will partner with Sony (or Microsoft) for next year to do MVP, but for the moment they are shut out. -
Do you think it was a commercial? I couldn't tell if it was a News report (like he was a criminal) or if it was some sort of reality show...it was odd. But very cool.

Hank Aaron is 1, Babe is 2. But people here want to wipe out Bonds' personal stats and place in the record books...but not Babe's. Why not? How is one better than the other?
