Vital Importance of QB
CosmicBills replied to indiragandhi'sthong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Clausen falls to 9, that means the top LTs will be gone. What would you want then? -
Russell has changed the game more than any other player before him. People now will always look for hidden immunity idols without clues. People will play super aggressive alliance-style games like he did. So yeah, I'm a fan.

You mean in 1995? News flash. It's 15 years later. The game has changed. 1998? Okay, 12 years ago. Now, let me school you. Look back at those past 12 years. How many first round picks have the Bills wasted on HBs? How many playoff games did they play? Take your time ... Stop living in the past and accept that NFL football is not longer 3 yards and a cloud of dust. And that style is never coming back. This is a passing league. No team without a franchise QB has won the super bowl in a DECADE. So again, even if Spiller is a hall of fame HB, he's not going to win a super bowl for THIS team. Not until they fix the huge holes everywhere else on the team. It's flat out retarded to think that drafting Spiller at 9 is in anyway going to help this team win a super bowl in the next 5 years. Seriously. If you can't understand that then you don't understand the modern NFL. -

It's not if he doesn't win a ring along with that yellow jacket. HBs don't win super bowls. If this team had a franchise QB, a decent O-Line, decent DL, okay WRs & LBs, then sure. A hall of fame HB in the first round would be worth it. Even with Lynch and Jackson on the roster. But since the Bills have NONE of those things, let alone two or three of those things, wasting their top pick on a HB, NO MATTER HOW GOOD HE IS OR WILL BECOME, is a bad, horrible pick. -

I have no problem with the logic of the first paragraph. Even though I think the Bills need a franchise QB above all else, I'm not sure there is one in this draft outside of Bradford. Even if there was a franchise QB in this draft, the Bills won't contend this year regardless. So, by all means fix the other gaping holes on the team. However, DO NOT TAKE SPILLER. It would be wasting a valuable pick. Even if he becomes a hall of fame RB, it's a wasted pick. -

They also didn't have two quality backs ALREADY ON THE ROSTER. This is a passing league. Wasting first round picks on HBs, no matter HOW GOOD THEY ARE, is retarded when you already have not one, but two backs capable of winning a championship with. Even more so what you have huge holes on your DL, LB corps, WR corps and of course QB. Just saying -

Don't joke about that. Please? I know it's possible but ... if they actually do it? It'll be the first clear sign that Nix has no idea what he's doing, much like our past two (real) GMs. And I WANT to believe in this front office. I do right now. But if they made that pick ... we'd be doomed to another 3-5 years of horrible decisions. -
Do you work on the show or for CBS?

Bradford's workout leaves crowd in awe.
CosmicBills replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I 100% agree with you it could very well be a smoke screen and Clausen is the one they desire. We'll obviously know if they take Clausen in the first round ... Which I think is my main point. I don't think Nix will take a QB at 9 just to take a QB. So if he DOES take Clausen at 9 it will be because they believe he's a franchise QB in which case, I'll trust their judgment. Same if they trade up to take Bradford (or Clausen). If they do that, I know a lot of people on the board would be pissed because this team has so many holes to fill. I'm just saying if they do trade up, these people should have some perspective. No matter who the Bills take, I don't consider them to be contenders in '10. So if they get their franchise QB now at the expense of picks -- they will still need to build next year. If they don't get a QB this draft, they will still have try to get one next draft ... You might be right. But I'm just saying if they DO trade up to take Bradford (which I realistically don't think they will do), then you should go into it with an open mind. Because if they're right, it's going to speed up the rebuilding process -- by a lot. -

Allow me to expound on my earlier statement to clear up any ambiguity. First, the basics: 1) The biggest hole on the Bills is a lack of a franchise QB. It's a more important need than LT, NT, LB, WR or RB. You can't win a championship in the NFL without a premier, franchise QB. The league has changed in the past decade to a pass first league and the Bills won't be contenders until they get the QB position fixed. 2) This does not mean I think the Bills should draft a QB just to fill a hole. If the front office doesn't believe a legit franchise QB is available in this draft, then by all means, address the glaring needs at LT, NT, LB, and WR. 3) I am NOT a QB expert or evaluator. I have no idea if Bradford will be a franchise QB or a franchise killer. 4) Because I'm not a QB expert, I defer my faith to Nix and the front office. Meaning, that I will trust their judgment. 5) NEVERGIVESUP, our resident insider to the workings at OBD, said that the only QB the Bills' have with a first round grade is Bradford. I believe NGU to be sincere as his batting average is well over 900 at the moment. 6) If the front office believes that Bradford IS the next Peyton Manning (which is NOT what NGU said, he merely said they have a first round grade on him) -- then giving up 2 #1s and a 3rd (or whatever the value chart says) is one million percent worth it EVEN THOUGH this team has multiple holes. Why? Because finding a franchise QB is a whole heck of a lot harder than finding good LTs, NTs, LBs and WRS ... and infinitely more important. 7) That said, the Rams may not want to trade the pick ... which of course is out of the Bills' control. That's the line of thought, broken down in 7 easy to follow steps. If the Bills feel that Bradford is really a franchise QB, they have to at least try to move up. Doesn't mean it will work though. -

If what NeverGiveUp says is true (that Bradford is the only QB in the draft the Bills have a first round grade on), and if they believe that he's a legit franchise QB ... trade up. Who cares what it costs. Do it. -

IF Buddy Nix really likes him and believes he can be a franchise QB. I'd bury my anti-tebowness deep down and give him a clean slate. However, I still seriously doubt his ability to become a starting NFL QB, let alone a franchise QB. And I have a hard time believing that the Bills do either. -

I know a movie is high on the list, there have been a few writers attached at various times to the script (though, it's still in the development phase as far as I know). My friend had a meeting about it the other month. Still, I agree with you. I think 24 has always been dark. Always been a downer. Jack has to die. But this season alone he's already been stabbed, shot and blown up. Not to mention the years of torture in China, exposure to biological and nuclear warfare and a pesky heroin addiction. If those didn't kill Jack, I'm not sure what will short of a showdown with Chuck Norris.

NBC is already in talks to buy it. If KS wants to do another season, they will. Personally, I think they should do one more season knowing that it's the end so they can properly write a finale. And then kill Bauer in episode 21. I want a cool death for Jack. Middle of a fire fight and he goes down -- they don't cut to commercial. They keep going. And we don't get time to mourn because the bad guys are close to winning. It would be a service to the first 3 seasons of the show when it truly was one of the best on TV for it's intense action and twists.

It depends on the type of movie. I've always seen movie-going as a communal experience. There's something really cool that happens when you're in a packed theater and everyone is on the same wavelength. Comedies are funnier in packed houses, horror movies are scarier, action movies are cooler. To me, that's a huge part of the experience you can't duplicate at home or in an empty theater. As for 3D, I too went to Dragons last night. It was the first weekend of raised 3D prices (in LA at least) and it cost 20 bucks for a ticket. It was insane. To me, the 3D fad will die fast. Just as it did before. Mainly because they're going to price themselves out of business (the tech to film 3D properly is expensive, the tickets more so). Plus, with no viable home market for 3D, people aren't going to care. Avatar will be the exception, not the rule (the money made from Alice and Dragons is the hangover from Avatar). I know 3D tvs are coming out (soon actually), but I'm sorry, I just can't see people wanting to buy TVs they have to put glasses on to watch. Plus, consumers JUST got done switching to HD TV (most at least). Trying to convince them that they now need to replace their HD tvs for 3D ones just won't work. Not this soon to the HD change over. It will be a fad for TVs. It won't have the same impact as HD. Just my two cents.

A-fu*#ing-men. RB is the absolute LAST position the Bills should address in this draft -- let alone at number 9. RB's are overrated to begin with, and the Bills already have a more than capable tandem of Fred and Lynch. There are so many more pressing holes. So many. I said it in a previous post: taking a RB in the first round will set this team back another 5 years.

It's human nature: "you always want what you can't have". If McNabb was begging to come to Buffalo, the instinct would be, "what's wrong with him"? As has already been said by several people in this thread, I would only want to see McNabb here if he comes with a contract extension in place that is 4-5 years in length. Giving up a high draft pick(s) for a one year stop gap does nothing for this team.

9 OVERALL? You think someone is going to trade up INTO the top 10 to take a guy who no one in the league has graded as a first round QB? Take a deep breath and come back to reality. Holy Lord there are some crazy mo'fos on this board. Even the kindest Tebow scouting reports have him listed as a "project" QB that will take time to adjust to the pro game. Perhaps as long as 3 seasons. No one spends a top 10 pick and invests top 10 money in a project QB. He may very well go in the later half of round 1 -- but that would be the earliest. There's zero chance he goes in the top 10. Zero.
