  1. I know you're busting my balls ... but I'd support that move. Giving up a draft for a Franchise QB of the future like Luck would be a huge step forward for this team. It would be better than what they're going to do. Which is draft another non impact player who will be run out of town after his first contract is up.
  2. The better question is what teams would rather have Fitz than their current starter. Cleveland, Carolina, San Fran, Arizona, Miami ... maybe the Jets. That's about it.
  3. Whoever they draft won't start next year and shouldn't start next year. That's the beauty of having Fitz. He's good enough to start for a year or two while the young buck learns the ropes and the system. Then insert him in. Luck will go to Carolina. If for some reason that doesn't happen, the Bills should move up to get him. They won't do that of course, but they should.
  4. Obviously not.
  5. Yup. For sure. But they didn't. And you can look to Fitz (especially in the Baltimore game) as one reason why. He put up great numbers in those games, but also had costly mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Fitz seems to make his mistakes at the worst possible times. Today he made one too, just the Dolphins CB dropped a gimme pick 6. Even the TD throw today, which was brilliant in many ways, SHOULD have been intercepted. It was a great catch, a great throw ... but an unnecessary throw that 9 times out of 10 would be picked. It just happened to be the 1 time today that it works. So I can't complain. Fitz is the opposite of clutch. It's not a lack of brains, effort, or gumption ... it's something far less tangible. Call it the "it" factor that we love in Hollywood. A meaningless word until you see it. Fitz, to me, does not have it. He puts up pretty numbers when there's nothing to play for. When it's crunch time he throws a wildly inaccurate ball that gets picked or results in a drop. Again, Fitz is not the reason this Bills team is a miserable 4 and 10. And don't pretend it's NOT a miserable 4 and 10. This team is bad in lots of places. QB is one of the bright spots. But just because it's a bright spot on a crappy team doesn't mean we should elevate it to something more than it is. That's all.
  6. I know I'm hard on Fitz, as Kelly will attest to ... it's not because I dislike him, he's hard NOT to root for. It's just I honestly believe he is NOT the answer at QB if your goal is to win a super bowl.
  7. Now I know you're drinking There will be a lockout. There will not be a (full) NFL season in 2011. The sides are too far apart. There's too much money at stake. It's not going to happen. The sides are so far apart there is not even rumors of an agreement.
  8. Against bad teams. Tell ya what, if he beats the Pats next week, I'll shut up. Fitz is NOT the problem on the team for sure. But he's also not the long term answer in my opinion.
  9. Let's not pretend Fitz is a "young gun". Dude is 28. With no football in 2011, he'll be 30 the next time there's an NFL season. QBs can play well into their 30s of course, but they start to taper off around 33-35. That gives the Bills a 3 to 5 year window for a Super Bowl run. There's not enough talent (yet) for that to be a realistic thought.
  10. Yup. We have a QB that will lead the Bills to 8-8 for years to come. Awesome.
  11. I'd love for you to break down the roster and classify all the players you feel are above average, average, and below average. I think if you do that honestly, you'll see this is a roster comprised of far more below average NFL players/starters than there are average. And the "above average" players on this roster aren't playmakers ... which is why the playoffs are a long ways off.
  12. First, tackles are one of the worst/misleading stats in the NFL. TFL is a far more important statistic. Second, having a safety lead the team in tackles is NEVER a good sign. It means that opposing ball carriers are, more often than not, getting past the front 7. But other than that, awesome
  13. Don't get me wrong, Promo, as much as I'm clamoring for this team getting a Franchise QB, I don't have any notion that it's a magic elixir that will instantly cure all this team's woes. There are lots of elements needed that this team does not currently have ... but finding that rare Franchise QB is the TOUGHEST thing to do. Hence why it's at the top of my shopping list. I know I'm in the minority that thinks Fitz isn't that guy, and that's fine. I hope he IS that guy and that I'm proven wrong. I'd happily admit to being wrong. End of the day, all I want is to see this team win a Super Bowl. Just like everyone else. I just happen to think you cannot accomplish that in the modern NFL without that Franchise QB. Get him. However you have to. It's worth the risk ... you know?
  14. No one knows how good ANY player drafted at ANY spot in the draft will be. THAT'S the ridiculous part of your argument. Use logic. If QB is the most important position on the field (which it is) and if all draft prospects at any position are a gamble (which they are), then how is it MORE of a gamble to take the top rated QB in the draft when you have the opportunity? Answer: Money. People are terrified of getting a Russell or Leaf. But that's chicken little thinking. The truth is, if the Bills pick 3rd, and they get Luck (which won't happen, but this is hypothetical), he'll get a huge contract that will be expensive if he tanks. But WHOEVER they pick at 3 will get a huge contract who will be expensive if they tank. But, if the QB proves to be a true franchise QB, that price is worth it. If the LT/DE/LB you take at three is a pro bowler, he MAY be worth the high price tag ... or, as has been shown at other positions (RB, WR to name two), you can get equal production for less cost with 2 or 3 lesser "caliber" players. That's just not the case at QB.
  15. I have 5,000 posts over 7 years.
  16. If you're wasting energy defending the worst LB corps in the NFL, then you've got too much time on your hands. They're horrible. Injured or not. There is arguably one LB on the roster who would start on another NFL team (Poz) -- the rest would be backups at best.
  17. Having no LBs might actually be an improvement over the stiffs that currently man those positions.
  18. So, I assume then that you're on the sidelines, listening to what Brohm is saying and what he's listening to on the sidelines? How else could you possibly ascertain the quality of Brohm's contribution on the sidelines. Or is it that you just like the way he stands on the sidelines. Maybe you think he looks adorable in his handwarmer and baseball cap? The fact is, a number 2 QB's worth cannot be determined on the sidelines. It's determined by his ability, or inability, to come in for an injured player and win games. Period. So saying things like "Brohm has proven he's a great #2 QB" is borderline crazy. Well, maybe I'm being kind. But your logical prowess continues with your last statement -- you say we should only draft a QB if we're SURE he's the next Elway, Kelly or Montana, and if we're not then we should draft another player who can help. But who's to say that the DE, OT, WR, LB you draft will be the next Jerry Rice or the next McCargo? Since no teams in the NFL employ a psychic (that we know of) EVERY pick is a crap shoot. You never know what you're going to get until they step onto the field. But by your logic, we shouldn't draft ANYONE because they could be a bust. Great theory. The fact of the matter is that I believe that Fitz is not a Franchise QB and this team needs one desperately before they can win. You disagree. That's fine. If Fitz brings a Super Bowl to Buffalo I'll gladly admit I was wrong. Until then, keep drinking the Kool Aide.
  19. Then you're not watching close enough I guess. It's fine. Everyone has their own opinion. But people here are so desperate for a good QB that they're missing the bigger picture. It's cool. This team won't win a Super Bowl with Fitz under center. If I'm wrong, I'll happily admit it. But if this team gets a chance to land a franchise QB in this draft, they have to take it. Not doing so will doom this franchise to 10 more years of mediocrity or worse.
  20. I didn't say he doesn't make great throws from time to time. Sometimes even in clutch situations. I said more often than not, he is inacurrate at the most inopportune times. I.E. he's not clutch. And I know that it seems like I'm ragging on Fitz. I'm not. He is what he is, and that's a fun to watch, very solid Number 2 QB. What he's not is a Franchise QB. And I believe %1000 that you cannot win a Super Bowl in today's NFL without a Franchise QB. People here are so starved for good QB play, it's been so long since they've seen a good one, that they are willing to jump blindly on the Fitz bandwagon without seeing the forest through the trees. And that will do nothing more than keep this team at the bottom of the barrel.
  21. 1. This is the BIG difference for those that think Fitz is the answer and those that want a Franchise QB in the draft like Luck. In my opinion Fitz has NOT shown he has all the tools needed to be a franchise QB. His play has been head and shoulders above expectations (including my own), but he's inacurate at the most inopportune times. That's not a "random" thing. I've played sports for far too long to believe that. Big time players make big time plays when it counts most. Fitz does not. He does the opposite. Not every time of course, but more often than not. And let's not pretend this is a young whippersnapper. He's a veteran QB who should NOT be making those mistakes. But he does. 2. This is where you totally lose me -- HOW has Brohm shown he's doing a great job as the backup??? The guy hasn't seen the field?! 3. You draft a Franchise QB because this team hasn't had one since Kelly and you simply cannot win a Super Bowl in today's NFL without a Franchise QB. It cannot be done. I'm sorry. This is a passing league now, it hasn't been done in nearly a DECADE. A decade. I don't want to make the playoffs. I want a ring. That's all that matters. And this team won't win one with Fitz under center. So it's not a WASTED pick ... was Aaron Rodgers a wasted pick for GB when they had Favre? The problem is that Fitz's play has been SO great in comparison to the utter abortion that was Trent Edwards and JP that people think he's better than he really is. He's not. /rant
  22. The Bills have been ALMOST winning games for over a decade now. Almost doesn't cut it. Bad teams find ways to LOSE games -- which this team, yes, this 2010 team, has done repeatedly. Let's not sugar coat this. This is a BAD football team on both sides of the ball. There's some talent in spots, but overall this team does not have the players to compete and win in the rugged AFC East. They play hard. They're coached well. They just can't win games. Fitz's play has shown this is a QB driven league. This is a passing league. He's an upgrade from what we've had the past few years, but he's an above average QB. Nothing more. I'm fine with him starting next season while the number 1 pick learns on the bench. But you simply cannot pass up drafting a Franchise QB if one's available when the Bills pick. Above all else, it's the most important position on the field and Fitz is NOT a franchise QB. Sorry.
