Goodell Admits NFL Was Wrong Not to Listen
Bob in STL replied to K-9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You would have had a bigger problem back in the days when they sold cigarettes on TV. The puts tons of money into some classic advertising for the worst product ever. -
Nice read. I get that same feeling every time i go to New Era (The Ralph, Bills Stadium, Rich Stadium).

I said it leaves "a stain". Not a "paper" trail. Hard to leave a "paper" trail on twitter. Although paper is analogous in this case, so I will give you that. You read into my point incorrectly and I do not like being called part of the problem by you. Especially when I know the example I set for my 3 kids and you do not. But I would offer that advice to any parent. Sometimes you have to protect kids from themselves, they make mistakes. We all learn as we go. -

Don't confuse progressive with Republican/Democrat or Conservative/Liberal. Just because we have not had a Republican mayor in a long time does not make Buffalo a liberal city. Looking at the broader sense of the word, at least not compared to places like Boston, Los Angeles or Seattle. When I left Buffalo in 1981 I found out just how slow and stodgy Buffalo politics were at the time. Change was slow, progress stunted, and ideas stalled by a government that lacked risk takers and creativity. This went on for decades. Democrats were in charge for this entire time but I think the problems went beyond political party. Now you see that things are changing in Buffalo. Investors are coming in with money, ideas are being launched, and young people are interested in living in the city. For the past 15 years or so Buffalo has been much more progressive than I have ever seen in my lifetime. I love going there and staying in the City whenever I do. -

Talk about an over reaction. I did not say "teach our kids to be more careful to avoid leaving a paper trail when expressing their bigoted opinions". Of course you teach your kids not to be bigoted. This "paper trail" (your words) can apply to anything. You owe me an apology, if you do not see that you do then YOU are part of the problem. -

I wonder, as we as a society continue to evolve, what will people in the future think of todays use of Twitter/ Facebook/ Instagram? I just don't understand the need people have to share their life, their opinions, and their thoughts with so many people (including strangers) and at such a high frequency. I get that these applications started out as fun ways to communicate but what drives this need for attention, praise, and validation? -

Yes, most of us probably have said something in the past that we would regret today and I also suspect that most of us forgot all about it too. Most people grow and evolve. I am 61 and not the exact same person I was when I was 16, or 22, or 35, or even 50. We need to teach our young people that Twitter/ emails/ texting/ cell phones leave a stain. They leave a trail that can come back to haunt. This thing we are talking about here, I am not sure it is real, or when it happened, or any other context written before it. This stuff just shows up and BAMM. I recall josh Allen was accused of racist remarks when he was a teenager and he had to address it. It sounds like a young person saying stupid things. That is all I can make out of it. -
Interview with Wyoming OC on Josh Allen
Bob in STL replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everything is results oriented Now. Back in the 60’s and 70’s a QB could play his peak years later in his career ...like 8-10 years, catch on with the right team and be a top QB. For todays QBs it is more like a 3-5 year trail period. -
The Draft is a total crap shoot...
Bob in STL replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL draft is not a total crapshoot but the first round, especially the early picks, do not always work out to be star players. Look no further than the NHL for a total crapshoot draft. Nothing like drafting 18 years old players, all playing in different leagues of various skill levels, against different levels of competition, in all states/provinces, and across many countries and cultures. -
I do think it would make an excellent T-shirt BUT … Lets see his game against the big boys before we start printing shirts.

Have you ever been to a Bills home game in Buffalo?
Bob in STL replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’ve been to 6 road games versus: LA Rams (Anaheim), Chargers (SD the old place), 49ers (The Stick), 2 in St Louis (Rams in Dome), Dallas (last Thanksgiving). -

I know the feeling. My Uncle took me to the game and, amazingly, I found the car. I was aware of details very early in life. Or maybe I got lucky, but I found the car. Too funny to hear your story but those moments make life real! -

First professional athletes that I met were Bills players Al BeMiller (C) and Joe O’Donnell (G), both at our church Holy Name Fund Raiser breakfast back in 1966 or 67. They both spoke and signed autographs. It was awesome as I was just a young school boy. My father was the President of the Holy Name, I heard him tell others that they did it for free which was amazing. Most of you probably never heard of these guys but they were inspiring and engaging gentlemen. I did see a Ernie Warlick at Henry’s and that was fun but this was different. -
Cosell's Halftime highlights were iconic. Even with school the next day, I did not dare go to bed until after the highlights. For most games I lobbied to stay up late and keep watching into the 2nd half. When MNF started there were very few NFL highlights shows. Nothing like today at all.

I was in the 8th grade and at the game that night. OJ was becoming the best player in the NFL. Saban was back and we were getting better quickly. We won that night. A nice crisp fall night. Going to school was tough the next day. -
Mt Rushmore of Buffalo coaches (Bills and Sabres)
Bob in STL replied to JetsFan20's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You make a great point. Imlach basically ran the whole hockey program, including coaching for awhile, with better results than Bowman or anyone else, he should be the first Sabre represented. Polian and Levy are in the Pro Football HOF - nuff said. Saban won 2 AFL Championships. Which are real championships. Ruff coached a lot of games won a bunch and got as close to the Cup as Imlach’s creation did. -

Wrong. He was the GM longer than than a coach. Punch’s team made the Cup finals in 5 years, Bowman never got there and Bowman started with a good team. Punch drafted and acquired the most and best talent in his tenure. Buffalo became a big hockey town instantly because of Punch’s ability to put a competitive product on the ice quickly. Bowman built off of Punches team. Punch started with nothing. Given this Punch should rank ahead of Bowman. If anything, Punch is the first one on the mountain. -

Punch over Bowman. Punch went from nothing to the Cup finals in five years by winning in the much tougher East Division. Punch built a deep team that Bowman leveraged off of. Punch drafted and traded for the more iconic players. . -

How do you see the right side of the OL?
Bob in STL replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Refreshing response, especially for a Billy Shaw man. I watch the OL when at the games, but only sometimes because you pretty much have to follow the ball. On TV you get what they give you. Study film? None of us have access to the film that the teams get. Fans who “study film” are actually re-watching the game, so again, you get what they give you. On this forum there are TDB favorites, Feliciano seems to be one. His tough persona resonates with fans. To me he is a good G/C backup that can start and give you good reps. To me Spain seems to be underrated. There was criticism about his run blocking on this forum. He did not give up a sack all year in pass blocking. The coaches must like him as he was re-signed for 2 more years. Ford looked like a rookie. I recall Joe Develin and Kenny Jones having a few “learning” years too. Same with Jim Ritcher and many others. It takes time to learn the offense and for line to jell.
