I think we got a very good player. Love the size and the coverage skill. Love the dedication. Tackling technique can be worked on and improved upon. Anyone keeping a notebook in college is willing to work on his game.

I would add Nate Odomes and who-ever else we played with at the time (Kirby Jackson or Thomas Smith), to the list of top pairs. Odomes was good enough to be in the conversation. I think the best tandem, when normalized for the time period, was Byrd and Edgerson. Why? Byrd is on the Second team All Time AFL team. Edgerson was also an all star and he shut down HOF receiver Lance Allworth, twice in Championship game victories for Buffalo. That said the game has changed a lot. The old time CBs could play bump and run, this allowed contact until the ball was thrown. Robert James buried many receivers at or near the line of scrimmage, forcing the QB to look elsewhere. Today CB is really hard to play well. WRs are the elite athletes of game and the rules favor their success.

** Pre-Draft Visit ** CB Kaiir Elam - Florida
Bob in STL replied to intimidatortj's topic in The Stadium Wall
“Can’t tackle” is becoming an overboard reaction. I would love teams to game plan us by running at our corners because their receivers are covered. I think we could adjust to that and that would make the game plan easier. The kid has covered some very good SEC receivers in college. Coverage is hard, and a far more critical skill than tackling on run plays. Like most rookies, our coaches will have to work with him to bring his game to full potential. . -
Rd 3, Pick 89 (25): LB Terrell Bernard, Baylor
Bob in STL replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
His RAS puts him the top 11% over the past 35 years. His only drawback is size. Like a super sized safety & OLB hybrid. -
Elam was a necessary pick, especially if he was the only first round grade left on the Bills chart. Either you trade up and get him, or you trade down and stockpile. The Bills have a lot of talent, not many rookies will make the team, and good talent will be exposed on the PS. That is why Beane traded a 4th to get Elam. Normally trading #130 to move from 25 to 23 is not ideal - but looking at the situation it was the right move. Elam and Tre will be a very good tandem.

BPA from OL, RB, WR, or ILB.

This was not on Ralph. Saban did not get along with a lot of people. Look at his career moves, he did not stay anywhere too long. Ralph hired Saban back again in 72-73 and then Lou bolted again, right when the team got good.

It really was. Lamonica was excellent every time he got to play. Bailed Kemp out numerous times. Imagine the Bills not making that trade and hiring a competent coach to replace Lou Saban. There were still many good players on the roster from the mid 60's but we had nothing at QB for too long. The Bills really sunk low in '67 and after.

The AFL stories are amazing and they succeeded in matching, if not surpassing, the NFL in 10 years. Similar but less successful - Both the ABA and WHA did a partial merge with the NBA and NHL, respectively, but this was part of the bigger leagues expansion to shut out competition and bring in some additional talent.

Am I the only one who hasn't completely given up on Zack Moss?
Bob in STL replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was thinking of red zone failures and I think it was the Titans game, could have been the Bucs. Moss had an easy TD which would have won the game for us. He ran past the seam and straight into were the blockers were moving the defense. I cannot think of any plays he made in the red zone. As a runner he lacks vision and football smarts. Blocking is average at best and he did nothing as a receiver out of the backfield. The Bills will draft a RB and Moss will have to really improve to make the team. -

Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade

Yes sure, lots of teams want players at the end of their careers that are making too much money. -
1. You've been a fan since 2. Your first Bills memory 3. One of your favorite Bills memories 4. Your favorite player of all time and your favorite player currently 5. Some of you guys have some awesome forum names. What does your forum name say about you? answers: 1. 1963-64 2. Early memories are watching Bills win AFL championships with Dad and Uncles, collecting AFL football cards, building a Bills scrap book mostly from Courier Express and Buffalo Evening News photos. 3. Watching OJ get 1000 yards in game 7 at MNF game in the brand new Rich Stadium. Watching the Bills destroy the Raiders 51-3 in AFCCG. The Comeback. 4. Tom Sestak, Billy Shaw, Jim Kelly, Bruce, Thurman, and Josh Allen 5. I loved the AFL teams and players/coaches and that entire era.

I started losing interest in the NFL in 2000’s. Why? 1. I have an uneasy feeling that Vegas oddsmakers influence the games 2. Inconsistent officiating and the leagues inability or unwillingness to fix it 3. Over-Hype and poor quality of TV broadcasts - so many games, 3 nights per week, leads to low quality play by play and color commentary on average. Add in all the talk shows, podcasts, etc. I tune most of it out. 4. My age - There really is more to life than watching football. I cut way back from my younger days.

Rams SuperBowl parade got totally out of hand!
Bob in STL replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
I saw another video with a much larger crowd, this video must have been taken very early. LA is not an NFL hot bed despite the population. If you have been ever there you can imagine the traffic and parking problems that most people want to avoid. -
Clearly he is not a paramedic but apparently not very caring either. The facial expression, the sip of water, and the turn about face and leave - all indicate he didn’t want to be bothered. He left it to his wife. Not a good look IMO.

LA market not in top 10 for SB TV ratings
Bob in STL replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Rams original city would be Cleveland. -
My thoughts on the game. Two very good teams but not the best, the Bills v Chiefs game featured the 2 best teams in the NFL. Media built up Burrow quite a bit, which was expected. Bengals defense surprised me. They were better than anyone thought versus KC and LA. Halftime show - it was ok. I don’t care for the rap/ hip hop genre but it was their turn and they did a decent job. Donald was a beast and showed what an impact player on defense can do to carry a team. Zebras - I has glad they didn’t call many penalties so as not to impact the game. Unfortunately, the two missed calls really did impact the game. Flagrant offensive PI gave the Bengals a TD to start the 2nd half. A bad PI call on Bengals on 3rd and goal from the 8 may have given Rams the game. After 56 Super Bowls the NFL still needs to figure out what PI is and then be consistent on it. That last PI was a shameful call and looked suspicious to me. LA - the most over blown big market in the NFL got their win. Outrageous ticket prices. Most regular fans could not even afford to park there, let alone get into the stadium, making this game an event for the elite. The Kroenke stadium is unattainable by so many markets, making me afraid for the future of football in small markets. Small markets - no one on national media is mentioning a thing about Cincinnati. To the winner go the spoils.

The Bill took a step back as a team. 1 They lost a few more games overall 2 They failed to win a single game that was decided by one score - this is a concern 3 They did not get to the AFCCG 4 Cracks in some of McDermott’s process - game day calls, benching of players, overall readiness and use of time outs, coaches are leaving 5 Unfathomable communication issues in critical game situations 6 Regression of OL 7 Pass rush and DL line play in general is not producing in accordance with the investment 8 Special teams gaffes - Punter and Kick returners with negative plays, possible communication issues Josh Allen took another step forward. Bad weather is the reason his stats are slightly down, that and the lack of a running game for 3/4ths of a season. Josh was much improved in his decision making and is the main reason we were contenders.

Brian Flores suing NFL, NY Giants, Dolphins, Broncos.
Bob in STL replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thank you. Lovie Smith has a much better head coaching resume and there it is. Flores is playing the victim now, completing his prophecy. Smith is the kind of stable leader that might actually stop the bleeding down in Houston. Flores has made himself a lightning rod for controversy. I would not hire Flores right now with this lawsuit opened. Talk about a distraction. It was easy to understand why the Giants wanted Daboll over Flores. It is all about the “perception” that Daboll can develop another QB in a league were QB is everything. Daboll’s handling of Allen is the ace in his hand, Flores’ handling of Tua is one of his key question marks. So if developing a QB and installing a modern NFL offense was a major requirement for the Giants, then Daboll over Flores is not a surprise and it has nothing to do with race.
