There is no QB competition as most think of one.
Bob in STL replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I partially agree. They have a number 1 in mind but I think they are sending a message that every spot on the roster is opened and so there will be a competion. I have played on teams with no clear number 1 ... they will give the top two (maybe three) guys enough reps prior to the first preseason game to determine the order. Whoever starts that first game and plays the majority of the snaps with the number 1 offfense is the number 1 seed. I think the pre-camp order could be: 1 - Edwards - He will get a long look. He either decides he wants to serious about football, lead the team and claim the number 1 spot or he will be gone. 2 - Brohm - they need to see if he can play. He needs reps with the # 1 offense. He can either challenge to start or impress enough to be the #2. If he looks bad early he will drop to #3 and get himself cut. There will be only one clipboard holder and that spot is for Levi Brown. 3 - Fitz - he is the insurance policy. He will get some early reps because he deserves it. They already know his leadership was better than Edwards and he was more of a gamer last season. They already know his physical shortcomings. For this team to really improve Edwards needs step up and play better than Fitz did last year. Fitz still could end up #1 meaning Edwards blew it, or #2 meaning Brohm blew it. 4. Brown - He holds the clip board as the #3. They will teach him the system and work on his technique more than anything else. I expect his pre-season time to be 4th quarter mop up. Agree that after the second pre-season game we should know who is #1. Game 3 should be the game we play starters for the first half and try to win the half. -
Pretty soon the towel boy and the janitor will get their shots in.

And you see how well that works. Some of the biggest criminals today are executives of huge corporations. The crimes they commit have consequences beyond anything these jocks could dream of. Look at what recently happened in the banking industry.

Welcome. Glad to hear we are growing some fans up north. I went to the Buffalo-Dallas Monday Night game several years ago. There were hundreds of Canadians there routing for Dallas. Many of them started fights and were abusive to our fans and our city. I could not believe it because I have been to hundreds of Sabres games (mostly in the 70's) and I never saw this behavior from Canadians before? Could be the new generation of young fans? By the way, Nix is the GM. Chan Gailey is the coach. Go Bills!

Why not? He was very solid, came up at guard and moved to LT within a few years. Played injured and played hard and lasted for 10 years. I think many coaches and players would disagree with the "fans" that did not like him. He was another Polian pick by the way.

I guess the Bills are not as High on Evans
Bob in STL replied to Billsfan=pain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Big guys like Wes Welker? or Steve Smith? If you can play you can play. Evans is a very good football player that can be an impact player in the right system. The guy can fly and get deep. Lets improve the talent on offense and Evans game will improve as well. -
I thunk we need to find a veteran LT. I still vividly remember our QBs getting killed last year with Bell, Meredith, Chambers and Scott at the tackles. Chambers and Scott are gone. Cornell Green, a veteran, is coming in to play RT. Bell is still a project IMO. Meredith needs to step up and push both of them. After that we drafted two rookies OTs, Wang and Calloway. Calloway is moving to guard. Wang is very raw -- no funny comments intended.

True, the Pats are always doing thing to improve and they always have a lot of draft pick to work with.

Why 3? Because we are really lacking at LT, RT and WR. If One of our QBs develops under Gailey that will speed up the timetable.

I have been a long time loyal fan. Born in 58 so I can remember the the 65 championship team. I try to be patient and positive with this team. I still think the way to build a great team is slowly and mostly by the draft. I am concerned are things seem to be moving very slowly, sometimes not moving forward at all. Main points --- Ralph swallows his pride and a whole lot of money when he fires Jauron. There is big talk of a new regime, top notch football people and coaches are on the way. Enter Buddy Nix, a great scout who has never run a team as "the man". Now I like Buddy a lot but he has never been the man until now. Next enter Chan Gailey who might become one of the better coaches we have had in 50+ years of existence, but still .. not an inspiring choice like a Gruden, Shananhan, or even Marty Shottenheimer. Our needs are plenty and obvious. QB, LT, WR, NT, DE, LB, and depth everywhere. Free egency - So far we have added a DE and an LB to play a new defensive scheme, the 3-4, a scheme that is going to cause an overhaul of the front 7 (thankfully). We add a mediocre RT to replecae an average RT. That is about it. I understand that pickings are slim in the free agent market and the way to build is through the draft. The Draft: 1. We draft Spiller to replace Lynch who replaced McGahee, who replaced Henry, who replaced Antowain Smith. We have spent some premium pick on RB in the past decade. 2. We draft a NT and a DE. I like both picks and I hope the NT can play from day 1. The DE will need some seasoning and was drafted for depth. 3. A fourth round WR that is a project. We need to go back to free agency and bring in a smart veteran who knows how to get open. Hardy and Johnson are unproven. Evans is solid but has trouble getting open when doubled, and he is always doubled. 4. Finally address LT at round 5 and this guy may be a steal but he is going to take time. No immediate help here. Bell is the best we have and I am worried about that. 5. Remaining rounds are all development players, special teamers and depth players. Could be some gems but no immediate help. So, the draft is past and for all the needs -- QB, LT, WR, NT, DE, LB, and depth everywhere -- What have we really addressed? QB. No LT. No. Wang will need a year and then maybe. WR. No. NT. Sort of. We have a rotation now of Kyle Williams and the rookie. DE. We added one proven player in free agency and one rookie to the mix of Stroud and Spencer Johnson. LB. One proven ILB in free agency and a few project rookies for the outside. Can't help but thinking we actually regress to 4 or 5 wins this year. A lot depends on how the OL holds up and whether we have a QB on the roster afterall. This looks like a 3 year rebuild. If we start over at QB next year then maybe more. Building slow may be the right way, I sure hope Buddy and Chan are up to the task.

Jamon Meredith - Might be better than a lot of us think
Bob in STL replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Time to move past what the scouts said about him two years ago because he has not lived up to it. He needs to perform as an NFL linemen. That includes motivation and training and wanting to a good player. It has to come from within. From what I saw last year he has some skills but still not a top notch starter. I sure hope he can develop. -
Biggest needs for this year: LT, WR, RT For future: QB, QB, QB

So Right Now, The Glaring Holes Are Probably
Bob in STL replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They will not "hit" with Brown and Wang this year. Both players need time, especially Brown. -
1st Round: CJ Spiller RB. Could be a star and a difference maker. Maybe? 2nd Round: Torell Troup NT - I like him better than Cody. Discipline and hard work will make him the better player. 3rd Round: Alex Carrington - Much needed 3-4 DE. Could be a starter in the future. 4th Round. Easley WR - Don't know. I like his size though. 5th Round: Ed Wang OT - Could develop into a solid player --- next year. 6th Round: Arthur Moats. Another needed 3-4 DE. Special teams and depth. 6th Round. Danny Batten. Special teams and loaded with heart. 7th Round: Levi Brown. Don't know. Probably will hold a clip board for 2 years. 7th Round. Kyle Calloway - Could be good OL depth and maybe more. Let them play and then we shall see.

Time to become a Denver fan

Denver? I never like their uniforms in any era. You can have them. Buh-bye. -
Round 6, Pick #192: DE Danny Batten S. Dakota State
Bob in STL replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but he has a big frame and should be able to get to 28 pounds without much problem. -
Round 5, Pick #140: OT Ed Wang - Virgina Tech
Bob in STL replied to ax4782's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And not Wang Chung? -
Round 5, Pick #140: OT Ed Wang - Virgina Tech

With Hardy on the left side and Stevie Johnson in the slot we could line up left to center like this: Hardy - Johnson - Wang -Levitre - Wood. -
Is this the strangest draft for Bills ever?
Bob in STL replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like Buddy is keeping it simple. Run and stop the run. That explains the first 3 rounds. Spiller can be an impact player, lets give him a chance. He must think that our "reach" NT will help us right now. Why not question all 32 teams for leaving Campbell on the board for 3+ rounds? I think the new WR is a very good prospect. All we have after Evans is Hardy and Johnson so WRs a position of need, just like OT. Yes --- -we still need to address LT somehow. Not enough picks to cover all the holes, Buddy has been saying this all along. QB -- not a great year for QBs. Next draft project to be better in this area. -
A Quick Fact About Rounds 4-7 Quarterbacks

So it all about statistics, scouting and player development means nothing? Glad you are here to clarify. -
A Quick Fact About Rounds 4-7 Quarterbacks
Bob in STL replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get your point at all. If you like a QB at round 4-7 you take him, just like any other position. Your list of QBs taken after round 3 convinces me that it is worth a shot. -
Nix has something up his sleeve...
Bob in STL replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure there is a QB in the plan for this year.
